Manorfolk 2.3 — A Livelier Workforce
Changes since 2.2. For Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge 21.1.234 or newer on that Minecraft version.
This update completes the farmer's current feature set with more natural worker behavior, bench and ground resting, clothing variety and fixes to everyday farming actions.
## Purposeful downtime
- Workers now take short walks around their work area, pause to look around, and occasionally inspect their fields instead of wandering far away or standing still for long periods.
- Added brief conversations between nearby available workers, with personal space, cooldowns and interruptions when either worker needs to leave. Fixed the endless following and crowding caused by vanilla villager social behavior.
- Work, hunger, danger and nighttime routines take priority over leisure.
- Fixed unassigned hired workers incorrectly reporting a wrong-profession warning.
## Wooden benches
- Added a craftable two-seat Wooden Bench that both players and workers can use.
- Craft one bench with three oak planks across the top row, three oak slabs across the middle row, and sticks in the bottom-left and bottom-right slots.
- Right-click a seat to sit; sneak to stand up. Each seat can be occupied independently.
- Idle workers can take short rests on nearby benches, then return to their routine. Benches are optional and provide no productivity bonus.
- Added bent-knee sitting poses and relaxed arms for workers, including compatibility with Fresh Animations.
- Occupied seats and seated workers survive saving and reloading. Breaking a bench safely releases its occupants and drops one bench in survival.
## Eating and working animations
- Workers can eat while already sitting on a bench or on the ground, with hand-to-mouth movement, a gentle bite motion and their free hand remaining relaxed.
- Workers still eat where they are when standing; they never travel to a resting spot just to eat. A seated worker stands up if food must be collected.
- Fixed tools and planting items flickering or disappearing during actions, including when the last seed is consumed.
- Held items now remain visible through the completed arm swing and change cleanly between tasks.
- Workers look toward the soil, crops or storage they are using, keeping their attention on the current action instead of looking around during it.
## Ground sitting
- Workers can take occasional short rests on the ground when no usable nearby bench is reachable.
- Added a relaxed sitting pose with one knee raised, the other leg extended, and hands resting near the knee. It uses the worker's existing outfit and supports Fresh Animations.
- Workers choose clear, dry, supported ground near their work area, avoiding crop rows, farmland, water, ledges, obstacles and crowded spots.
- Ground rests end when work or other priorities take over. Workers also get up if the resting spot becomes unsafe.
- Ground seating and its occupant survive saving and reloading. Ground rests remain optional, with no productivity bonus or new work requirement.
## Four farmer outfits
- Farmers now receive one of four outfits: Classic, Weathered, Earthy or Rustic.
- Variants combine white, gray, cream or muted sage shirts with different leather colors and subtle patches or repairs.
- All retain the practical farmer look: rolled sleeves, exposed forearms, wrist-length gloves, leather overalls, boots and brass clips. Hat bands still match the assigned field color.
- Outfit choices are saved per worker and remain consistent through world reloads, reassignment and rehire. Standing, sitting and eating use the same outfit.
## Inventory and delivery fixes
- Farmers now deposit harvested produce and unneeded planting supplies before downtime instead of waiting for a full inventory or nightfall.
- Supplies needed for current planting work, tools and provisions are retained. Full or inaccessible storage keeps items safely on the worker, without repeated deposit/restock loops.
- Fixed workers picking up dropped items from several blocks away. They now walk close to the actual item and use player-equivalent pickup reach, respecting pickup delays and inventory space.
