Description
Maledict is an add-on for Malum, continuing spirit arcana past the umbral crystal into darker and more experimental territory.
Malignant Pewter, new runes, spirit-fed weapons, and the rites that call something which cannot be sent back. Some of it is useful. Some of it is dangerous. Most of it is both.
The Incursus Blade
A sinister scythe that grows by devouring spirits and sweeps its blade around the wielder.
Right-click it with spirits from your inventory to infuse them permanently. Each of Malum's eight spirits deepens a different aspect of the blade, and the cost climbs as the weapon rises. When spirit power reaches the sacred number, a deeper power awakens — and the blade grows harder to predict.
Runeworking
Maledict expands Malum's runeworking in several directions: adapting existing totemic rites into wearable runes, experimenting further with the void, and bending Malignant Pewter — an anti-magic metal — into magical use.
Some press the pulse of existing totemic rites into a charm:
- Satiation — natural regeneration restores an additional, equal share.
- Ripening — gain a quarter more experience.
- The Pack — companions within sixteen blocks gain Resistance I, Strength I and Speed I.
- Decay — hostile creatures nearby lose half a heart every two seconds, never fatally.
Malignant Pewter takes Voidish Runecraft in a different direction. Working magic through a metal that rejects magic is neither practical nor safe, which is rather the point:
- Stagnant Evolution — halts magic imposed from outside.
- Rotten Bone — if your maximum health is greater than 1, escape death at the cost of 25% of your maximum health.
- The Fallen — makes the target's healing decay into wounds.
Other experiments with the void produce stranger results:
- Melancholia — gradually become resistant to repeated damage of the same kind. Healing and harm alike leave you numb.
- Bliss — increases the damage dealt to and taken from those whose proportion of health differs from yours, and forces both sides' attacks to land.
The Rites of Vicissitude
Vicissitude is not a being I can create; it is only a shadow that enters through the wound.
The Rites of Vicissitude stack spirits on a totem; what answers is fate's own unwelcome guest — an encounter built around changing rules, damage adaptation and escalating rites. In its stronger manifestations, it confiscates your equipped curios when the second phase begins, returning them one by one as you fight back.
Repeating the same solution will not carry you far.
Rites and Obelisks
The Rite of Sacrifice: imitate the rites of the sages and survive, and you gain an additional rune slot and a Vision slot.
The Soulwood Obelisk focuses hallowed gold through malignant metal, speeding a spirit altar by half again. The Mnemonic Obelisk condenses mnemonic fragments into the enchanting power of ten bookshelves.
Bows and Arrows
The Remembrance Bow draws faster than an ordinary bow, sending arrows faster and through a limited depth of blocks. Infuse it further and it becomes the Elegy Bow, which fires automatically at full draw.
Eight spirit arrows accompany them, one for each of Malum's spirits.
Enchantments
- Ectoplasm — arrows fly faster by consuming spirits from your inventory.
- Reminiscence — arrows pass through blocks.
- Aftertaste — a scythe strike tastes the hunger and saturation its victim's drops would have restored.
Into the Arcana
Maledict is built as an extension of Malum rather than a collection of disconnected additions. Its content is integrated into the Encyclopedia Arcana, with its own entries, recipes and progression, while the full set can also be found together in the Maledict creative tab.
The mod is still in active development.
