What's new

v0.0.0-beta.26 - The Almanac could not be read

Three reported problems that turned out to be one: the Almanac's opening text was scaled down until it was unreadable, so the instructions it contains were invisible, so a page found out of order answered with a dead end.

Fixed

  • The opening text is legible. The book's cover page measures 116×156 pixels with 9-pixel lines, and the engine shrinks text automatically to make it fit. The old text needed roughly twenty lines and was scaled past the point of being readable, with the lines overlapping. It is now short enough to render at full size. The cover also had two definitions of the same text in the Spanish file, one of them a single line; the duplicate is gone.
  • The Prologue is now a real entry, unlocked from the start. It used to exist only as the cover text, which meant it could never be listed and never paginated. It is now the first entry of Act I, with no advancement attached, and the engine treats an entry without one as never locked. Because a category stays locked only while every entry inside it is locked, this also unlocks the Act I category itself — which was required to reach the Prologue at all. The chapters remain individually locked, so the strict order of the act is unchanged.
  • An out-of-order page now says what is missing. "This page makes no sense yet. Something comes before it" now names the chapter: "You need to read this first: I. The Fallen Shrines". A raw chapter id would have been worse than no answer.

Notes

  • The Prologue carries the one instruction a new player actually needs: kill an undead that walks after dark, take the first page and read it. That page is the only way to open Chapter I, and it was previously explained only in text nobody could read.
Early alpha. Content is still being built out — expect changes between versions.
