• The Watchers' Vault's chests will not open until its altar is lit. Walking into the pitch-dark hall and stripping it before ever lighting it is no longer possible. Only chests inside a generated Vault are affected — every other chest in the world, including the Observatory arena chest that holds the Stone of Illumination, is untouched.

Notes

• This cannot deadlock. The Stone comes from the Observatory, not from the Vault, and the Vault's entrance is blocked with rubble rather than bedrock, so you can always dig in, set the stone and open the chests.
• Not yet testable. The altar itself still has to be placed inside the vault piece by the workshop, so the mechanic is in place but there is nothing yet to place the stone on.
