Majestic Structures

Majestic Structures rebuilds the Overworld's vanilla structures in the Majestic style, starting with the mineshafts: the Order's old workings, dug by the creatures of the Majestic Bestiary. Every replacement can be switched off from the config.

What's new

v0.0.0-beta.3 - The mineshaft loads

Fixed

  • The mineshaft no longer stops the world from loading. 0.0.0-beta.2 could not be put into a world at all: creating a new one, or loading any world with this mod installed, crashed on Failed to load registries. The structure file asked for a start height under a key the jigsaw codec does not know, so the structure was dropped and its value was left unbound. It is now written as "start_height": { "absolute": -45 }, which is what the codec reads.
  • /majestic_structures depth no longer breaks your world. The command writes an override into the world's own datapack, and it was writing the same unreadable key, so any depth other than the default left a structure file the game refused to parse — a crash waiting for the next /reload. It now writes absolute and clears the stale key, so it can be run twice in a row without piling keys up.
  • The chain can actually grow. The depth cap was being read from a field that does not exist, and the one that does exist was set to 1 — one level of pieces and no more. size is now 14, and the dead max_depth_from_start is gone.
  • The expansion radius is read as blocks, not chunks. 32 was two chunks of reach, which truncated the chain long before the depth cap mattered. It is now 116 blocks.

Notes

  • Why the depth setting exists. A mineshaft that lands inside granite generates and you never find it: bury does not open caves, and a structure has no way to ask what rock is in the way at the point where its position is chosen. Depth is the lever, so it stays a setting: mineshaft.depthOffset, or /majestic_structures depth -25 and a /reload. Shallower puts them closer to caves and ravines.
  • The radius is at its ceiling. The jigsaw codec refuses a max_distance_from_center above 128 blocks, and bury spends 12 of them, so 116 is the largest value this structure can take. The workshop's notes asked for 32 chunks — 512 blocks — which no jigsaw structure can reach, whatever the loader.
  • On paper this is still a shorter mineshaft than the workshop measured. Those figures were taken with a chunk-based radius the game does not implement. Expect the chain to land short of the 7–13 pieces quoted in 0.0.0-beta.2, and treat that number as unproven until somebody has actually walked one.

Known issues

  • Still nothing here has been seen in-game. What changed in this release is that the world can now be opened at all. What the mineshaft looks like once it does is still unverified.
  • Overlapping other structures is still possible. Minecraft gives no way to keep two structures apart. What is enforced is that no chest of ours can be reached without going through our own structure.
  • A mineshaft under solid rock can be unreachable, as above. Shallower depth is the only answer available.
Beta. This release exists because 0.0.0-beta.2 was unplayable, not because the mineshaft is finished. If a mineshaft does come out wrong — too short, upside down, walled in — tell us, and say which seed.
