Description

Magical Characters — Dota-Inspired Heroes & Spells

Minecraft 1.21.1 | NeoForge

Blood Magic is a combat-focused Minecraft mod that brings Dota 2-inspired characters, unique abilities, powerful spells, magical upgrades, and custom visual effects into Minecraft.
Select a character, master their abilities, combine magical spheres, summon minions, control enemies, unleash devastating attacks, and reshape the battlefield.

The mod features custom spell effects, particles, sounds, visual entities, first-person rendering, ability cooldowns, and special combat mechanics.

Important Notice: This mod was developed with the assistance of several AI models and neural networks. Its code, mechanics, and visual effects are AI-assisted and may contain bugs or balance issues. Character ideas and abilities are inspired by Dota 2. Some visual effects and other elements are borrowed or adapted from Weather, Storms & Tornadoes. This is an unofficial fan-made project and is not affiliated with Valve or the creators of the referenced mod.

Updates will be rare. Development will focus mainly on fixing bugs and adding new characters. Frequent content updates, major reworks, and constant balance changes are not planned.

HOW TO PLAY

Important: Character-specific abilities cannot be accessed normally without selecting a character. At the moment, /character is the intended way to obtain your character's abilities.

  1. Open the in-game chat.

  2. Enter /character.

  3. Select one of the six available characters.

  4. Use the appropriate ability keys.

Default Controls

Z — Skill    1 X — Skill 2

C — Skill    3V — Skill 4

Mouse Button 4 — Skill 5

Available skills depend on the selected character. Not every character uses all five slots.

You can change the keybinds through Minecraft's Controls menu.

Most abilities have cooldowns. The mod displays cooldown notifications through its custom HUD system.

CHARACTERS

Discover the six currently available characters below. Detailed skill descriptions, mechanics, and GIF placeholders are hidden in individual spoilers.

1. Crip

Crip — The Regular Minecraft Player

Crip is simply a normal Minecraft player without any special abilities. He does not have a unique skill set, custom attacks, or a character-specific ultimate.

Choose Crip if you want to play as an ordinary Minecraft character without any of the mod's special combat abilities.

2. Heart Collector

Combat Style: Blood magic, health sacrifice, permanent growth, bleeding, and devastating soul attacks.

Heart Collector uses his own health as a resource. By hitting enemies with blood projectiles, he can increase his maximum health and become stronger over time. His ultimate sacrifices health to unleash a wave of destructive souls.

Skill 1 — Blood Projectile

Fires a blood projectile toward the direction you are looking. The projectile costs 2 health points and deals magic damage to an enemy hit within approximately 10 blocks.

Every successful hit permanently increases your maximum health by one heart, up to the configured storage limit. This is Heart Collector's primary growth mechanic.

With Aghanim's Shard, the projectile deals additional damage based on the number of hearts collected.

Skill 2 — Crimson Seal

Activates a temporary blood seal. Your next successful attack against an enemy consumes the seal and applies Bleeding for 10 seconds, dealing damage over time.

With Aghanim's Shard, activating the seal also grants regeneration while the seal is active. The seal is consumed when the empowered hit lands.

Skill 3 — Requiem

Hold Shift + C for approximately 1.7 seconds to charge and unleash Requiem.

The ability drains your health and absorption, then launches a radial wave of souls outward in multiple directions. Each soul travels up to 15 blocks and damages enemies it hits. The number of soul projectiles depends on the amount of health sacrificed, up to the configured heart limit.

Without Aghanim's Blessing, Requiem reduces your health to 1 HP. With Blessing, it consumes roughly half your current health instead. Sacrificed health is not automatically restored.

Aghanim's Shard increases Requiem's damage based on the amount of health consumed. Aghanim's Blessing creates a second wave of souls that returns toward the player and refreshes Requiem's cooldown after the sequence finishes.

The ability features black smoke, 3D soul cubes, glowing trails, temporary light effects, and distinctive heartbeat and explosion sounds.

3. Magician

Combat Style: Elemental combinations, crowd control, destructive magic, mobility, and powerful spell chains.

Magician does not select spells from a traditional ability list. Instead, you combine three magical spheres — Quaz, Wex, and Exorc — to invoke different spells.

The three sphere types are represented by your Z, X, and C keys. Each sphere combination produces a specific spell. You can store three spheres at once; adding a fourth removes the oldest sphere.

The order of the three spheres does not matter. What matters is how many of each type you have stored.

After entering a valid combination, press V to invoke the corresponding spell. Mouse Button 4 then casts the invoked spell, provided you meet its targeting requirements.

The currently selected spheres and invoked spell are displayed through the mod's custom first-person effects and HUD.

Skill 1 — quaZ (Z)

Selects the Quas sphere. Quas is part of the sphere-combination system used to create Magician's frost-themed spells and other combinations.

Skill 2 — weX (X)

Selects the Wex sphere. Wex is part of the sphere-combination system used to create spells involving energy, movement, and tornado-like effects.

Skill 3 — exorC (C)

Selects the Exort sphere. Exort is part of the sphere-combination system used to create fire-themed and high-damage spells.

Skill 4 — Invoke (V)

Combines your three currently stored spheres and invokes the corresponding spell. The combination must match one of the supported recipes.

Invoke does not directly launch the spell. After invoking it, use Mouse Button 4 to cast it.

Skill 5 — Cast Invoked Spell (Mouse Button 4)

Casts the currently invoked spell. Aim at the appropriate target or location. Some spells require a valid enemy, while others require a block or ground target.

Magician's Spell Combinations

The combinations below use the actual in-game keybinds: Z = Quas, X = Wex, C = Exort. The listed combination identifies the required spheres; you can enter them in any order.

ZZZ — Cold Snap

Deals magic damage and repeatedly immobilizes enemies in the targeted area. The repeated freezing and movement interruption make it useful for controlling a group of enemies.

ZZX — Ghost Walk

Makes the caster invisible for 15 seconds and slows nearby enemies for 5 seconds. Useful for escaping dangerous situations or repositioning without being easily seen.

ZZC — Ice Wall

Creates a custom wall of ice across the targeted area. Enemies caught by the wall are heavily slowed and weakened, allowing the wall to obstruct and punish enemy movement.

ZXX — Tornado

Summons a moving tornado along the aimed direction. Enemies caught by it are lifted approximately 13 blocks into the air and held there before being released.

The subsequent fall can cause significant fall damage. The tornado uses custom 3D visuals and weather-style debris effects.

XXX — EMP

Creates a charged energy field at the targeted location. After its charge-up period, it damages nearby living entities based on their maximum health and slows them.

With Aghanim's Shard, EMP also pulls enemies toward the center of the field and prevents normal movement while the upgraded control effect is active. Its visuals include expanding electric particles, energy rings, and lightning discharges.

EMP can also remove certain nearby environmental objects, including leaves, vegetation, snow, and glass. It is not intended to destroy the entire surrounding landscape.

CXX — Alacrity

Enhances the caster for 20 seconds, granting increased attack damage, movement speed, and mining speed.

This is a self-buff designed to improve combat performance and mobility.

CCC — Sun Strike

Calls down a powerful strike of solar energy at a targeted location. After a short delay, enemies caught in the impact area take magic damage.

With Aghanim's Shard or Aghanim's Blessing, Sun Strike gains an expanded multi-target version that can strike nearby enemies around the caster, with additional side strikes. Shard increases its damage.

The visual effect includes a bright vertical light beam, a solar impact effect, particles, and a distinctive impact sound.

ZCC — Refresher

Resets the remaining cooldowns of other tracked abilities and Magician spells. This lets you chain spells together instead of waiting for each cooldown to finish.

Refresher has its own cooldown calculated from the cooldown time it refreshes.

XCC — Chaos Meteor

Launches a large meteor from the sky toward the selected location. On impact, it rolls forward along the ground, dealing damage along its path.

With Aghanim's Shard, two additional meteors are launched to the sides, creating a three-meteor attack.

The spell uses a custom meteor model, a visible falling trajectory, and a rolling impact effect.

ZXC — Deafening Blast

Creates a powerful wave that pushes enemies away and temporarily controls their movement. Affected enemies become weaker after the control ends.

Aghanim's Blessing upgrades the ability to its stronger Blast Shard version, extending its control duration and changing the spell's behavior and visuals.

4. Reality Scaler

Combat Style: Damage amplification, temporary minions, battlefield distortion, and a black-hole-like ultimate.

Reality Scaler manipulates the battlefield by creating zones that amplify damage, summoning Void Minions, and trapping enemies in a reality-warping hole.

Skill 1 — Reality Field

Places a reality-distorting field at a targeted living entity within approximately 16 blocks. The field lasts around 22 seconds and increases incoming damage against affected enemies within its radius by 50%.

Its visuals represent a distortion of the surrounding world. Decorative blocks and light environmental objects inside the field may also be removed.

Skill 2 — Void Minions

Sacrifices 4 health points to summon three temporary Void Minions, represented by custom-rendered Endermites.

The minions pursue enemies and attack targets. They last approximately 20 seconds and disappear when their lifetime expires.

Skill 3 — Reality Hole

Creates a black-hole-like zone around the targeted enemy within approximately 24 blocks. Nearby enemies become immobilized and are forced to orbit the center while taking repeated damage.

The caster is also locked in place during the ability. The base version lasts approximately 12 seconds and has a 50-second cooldown.

Aghanim's Blessing increases the duration to approximately 15 seconds, doubles the active radius, and causes the caster's Void Minions to deal double damage to enemies inside the hole.

The visual effects include a large reality-warping field, an orbiting enemy formation, particles, and a dramatic sound effect.

5. Spirit Crusher

Combat Style: Momentum, charging, durability, and powerful impact attacks.

Spirit Crusher converts movement into damage. His abilities reward aggressive positioning and combining temporary buffs with a charge.

Skill 1 — Charge

Launches the player into a forward charge based on the direction they are facing. The character accelerates over time, building up speed until the charge ends.

Colliding with enemies deals impact damage and knocks them back. Damage scales with the charge's effective speed, making momentum important.

Aghanim's Blessing doubles the active charge speed when the appropriate buff is present.

Skill 2 — Bulldoze

Grants increased movement speed, resistance, and jump capability for 8 seconds.

It also activates the Bulldoze damage bonus, doubling the impact damage of a charge performed while the effect is active.

This ability works best when activated before charging into enemies.

Skill 3 — Nether Strike

Targets an enemy within approximately 18 blocks, then teleports the caster to a position beside the target after a short 1.2-second delay. The attack deals damage and knocks the target away.

With Aghanim's Shard, the target is briefly frozen and unable to move after being hit. With Aghanim's Blessing, the caster is invulnerable during the casting phase and receives a temporary outgoing-damage bonus after the strike succeeds.

Spirit Crusher also features custom blue particles, impact effects, and charging animations.

Skill 4 — Bash (Passive)

Aghanim's Blessing adds a passive ability to stun enemies by hitting them.

6. Shadow Shaman

Combat Style: Chain lightning, transformation, immobilization, and summoned wards.

Shadow Shaman specializes in locking enemies down and punishing groups. His abilities rely on cooldowns rather than a mana system.

Skill 1 — Ether Shock

Fires a chain of lightning that starts with an enemy within approximately 12 blocks and jumps between nearby enemies.

The default configuration allows up to three targets to be hit, with each target taking magic damage. Custom lightning beams create visible connections between enemies.

Aghanim's Shard adds a temporary movement slow to enemies struck by the lightning.

Skill 2 — Hex

Temporarily transforms a targeted hostile mob within approximately 18 blocks into an actual vanilla Minecraft chicken.

The original entity is stored and restored when Hex expires. This is an entity transformation, not simply a visual illusion.

The default duration is 3 seconds, but server administrators can adjust it. The transformation uses custom voodoo smoke and spell-casting sounds.

Skill 3 — Shackles

Locks down a targeted enemy within approximately 8 blocks and channels the ability for around 8.5 seconds. The target cannot act normally, while the caster is also anchored in place and cannot attack, move away, or cast other abilities during the channel.

The ability repeatedly damages the target with pulses.

Aghanim's Shard increases the pulse damage. If the target was already Hexed when Shackles began, the pulse damage receives an additional multiplier. Aghanim's Blessing adds repeated lightning strikes around the shackled target.

Skill 4 — Mass Serpent Ward (V)

Summons ten Serpent Wards in a formation around the targeted position. Aim at an enemy, a block, or an empty location to choose where they appear.

The wards automatically track and attack nearby enemies. They remain for approximately 45 seconds and can be destroyed.

Their custom 2D sprites, directional aiming, attack animations, and voodoo smoke effects make them visually distinct from ordinary Minecraft mobs.

AGHANIM ITEMS & UPGRADES

The mod features three Aghanim-themed items. Their upgrade effects modify selected character skills.

Aghanim's Shard

Aghanim's Shard is a consumable upgrade item. Use it to apply its upgrade effect to your character.

Current implemented upgrades:

  • Heart Collector: Adds damage to Blood Projectile based on stored hearts, improves melee damage, and increases Requiem's damage based on sacrificed health.

  • Magician: Upgrades EMP's crowd control, adds two extra Chaos Meteors, and upgrades Sun Strike's damage and multi-target behavior.

  • Reality Scaler: No dedicated Shard upgrade is currently implemented for this character.

  • Spirit Crusher: Adds a brief stun or freeze to Nether Strike and briefly disables mob AI on bare-handed hits.

  • Shadow Shaman: Adds a slow to Ether Shock, increases Shackles' pulse damage, and briefly disables mob AI on bare-handed hits.

Once consumed, the Shard grants its upgrade effect rather than remaining in your inventory.

Aghanim's Blessing

Aghanim's Blessing is a consumable item that permanently applies the Blessing upgrade effect when used.

Current implemented upgrades:

  • Heart Collector: Reduces Requiem's health cost to roughly half the player's current health and adds a returning soul wave. Completing the sequence refreshes Requiem's cooldown.

  • Magician: Upgrades Sun Strike to its expanded multi-target behavior and turns Deafening Blast into a stronger, longer-lasting version.

  • Reality Scaler: Doubles Reality Hole's radius and increases its duration. Void Minions deal double damage to enemies inside its active area.

  • Spirit Crusher: Doubles charge speed while the relevant buff is active, provides invulnerability during Nether Strike's casting phase, and grants a temporary damage bonus after a successful strike.

  • Shadow Shaman: Adds repeated lightning attacks during Shackles.

The item is consumed when used, but the upgrade effect remains active.

Aghanim's Scepter

Unlike the consumable Blessing, Aghanim's Scepter grants the Aghanim's Blessing effect while it remains in your hotbar.

The effect is maintained automatically. Moving the Scepter out of the hotbar ends the upgrade supplied by that Scepter. If you have separately consumed an Aghanim's Blessing item and obtained its permanent effect, that independently granted upgrade remains active.

The Scepter itself is not consumed by this passive effect. It can also be used as an ingredient to craft Aghanim's Blessing.

Crafting Recipes

Aghanim's Shard

  • 1 Diamond in the center

  • 8 Lapis Lazuli around it

Aghanim's Scepter

  • 1 Aghanim's Shard above 1 Blaze Rod

Aghanim's Blessing

  • 1 Aghanim's Scepter in the center

  • 8 Diamonds around it

These are shaped crafting recipes. Arrange the ingredients in the crafting grid as described.

VISUAL EFFECTS & OTHER MECHANICS

Blood Magic includes more than the active character abilities.

  • Custom spell entities: Meteors, tornadoes, Sun Strike beams, soul projectiles, lightning beams, and Serpent Wards use dedicated rendering and behavior.

  • First-person effects: Magician features custom sphere rendering and a wrist model that follows the player's arm.

  • Particles and sounds: Blood effects, dark soul trails, voodoo smoke, frost particles, energy effects, lightning, and distinctive ability sounds.

  • Custom blocks and temporary lighting: Ice Wall uses a dedicated block, while certain spells create temporary light blocks that are cleaned up after the effect.

  • Bleeding: A status effect used by Heart Collector's Crimson Seal to damage affected targets over time.

  • Mob transformation: Hex tracks the original mob so it can be restored after the transformation expires.

  • Cooldown tracking: Supported skills and spells use cooldowns, with the server able to enable or disable magic cooldowns.

  • Environmental interactions: Certain spells manipulate nearby blocks or the battlefield, rather than only damaging entities.

  • Custom HUD: Displays relevant spell information and cooldown notifications.

Some effects use assets or visual concepts borrowed or adapted from Weather, Storms & Tornadoes, alongside custom assets made for Blood Magic.

COMMANDS

/character

Opens the character selection menu. Choose one of the six characters to activate its available character-specific abilities.

This is currently the intended way to access character skills. The mod does not yet provide a normal progression system for unlocking them.

/gamerule EnableMagicCooldown true

Enables magic cooldowns. This is the default setting.

Use /gamerule EnableMagicCooldown false to disable cooldowns for supported abilities and spells. This is useful for creative testing and experimentation.

Advanced Commands

These commands are intended for operators and testing. They require permission level 2.

/sh

Toggles both Aghanim's Shard and Aghanim's Blessing effects on the executing player. Run it again to remove both effects.

If an Aghanim's Scepter remains in the hotbar, its passive Blessing effect will still be supplied automatically.

/bloodmagic set <setting> <value>

Changes the current runtime value of a supported parameter.

/bloodmagic setdef <setting> <value>

Changes the corresponding default runtime value for a supported parameter. It also applies the new default value immediately.

Both commands support the following settings:

  • SC_acceleration — Spirit Crusher's charge acceleration. Range: 0.0001–10.

  • HC_regeneration — Heart Collector's Shard regeneration strength. Range: 0–9.

  • HC_maxheartcount — Maximum stored hearts for Heart Collector. Range: 1–256.

  • HC_traillength — Requiem soul-trail length. Range: 0.05–20.

  • HC_trailwidth — Requiem soul-trail width. Range: 0.005–1.

  • SS_hextime — Shadow Shaman's Hex duration, in seconds. Range: 0.1–60.

  • SS_maxenemy — Maximum number of enemies hit by Ether Shock. Range: 1–64.

  • SS_emission — Shadow Shaman lightning beam emission intensity. Range: 0–1.

  • SS_Clightningcount — Lightning beam count for upgraded Shackles. Range: 1–16.

  • M_emptime — Magician's EMP duration, in seconds. Range: 0.1–60.

  • M_tornadotime — Magician's Tornado control duration, in seconds. Range: 0.6–60.

  • M_meteorangle — Chaos Meteor's trajectory angle, in degrees. Range: 1–89.

Example:

/bloodmagic set SS_hextime 5

Sets Shadow Shaman's Hex duration to 5 seconds.

/bloodmagic wristoffset <x> <y> <z>

Adjusts Magician's first-person wrist/sphere rendering position. The command only affects the first-person view, not the third-person F5 model.

Each coordinate must be between -8 and 8.

Example:

/bloodmagic wristoffset 0.0 0.0 0.0

Resets the offset to zero.

The tuning commands adjust parameters; they do not unlock characters or automatically grant every ability.

DEVELOPMENT & UPDATES

Blood Magic is an experimental AI-assisted fan project inspired by Dota 2 and selected visual elements from Weather, Storms & Tornadoes.

Several AI models and neural networks were used during development. The mod combines custom spell logic, particles, visual entities, sounds, status effects, item upgrades, and first-person rendering.

Because the project is experimental, some mechanics may contain bugs or require additional balancing.

Development will be slow, and updates will be infrequent. The main priorities are bug fixes and new playable characters. Frequent content drops and constant redesigns are not planned.

When reporting bugs, include the Minecraft version, NeoForge version, mod version, and relevant crash logs.

Choose your character, master your spells, and turn your Minecraft world into a battlefield.
