Description

This project was developed in 4 weeks for 1.12 Minecraft Modding Coalition Modjam.

Welcome to Luxurious Misfortunes! This mod is all about useful things—big and small, completely new
and unique—they will allow you to fix a seemingly irreparable mistake or finally use resources that have little or no use in vanilla.

The main theme is wealth and payment. You begin your journey by finding a stone totem in an underground forest. It offers you four "matters"—something like the classic elements of nature: velvet, pyrite, porcelain, and nacre. Each matter allows you to create it's own items.

Pyrite

  • Pyrite Fishing Rod

Did you lose your items after a battle? Did a creeper blow up your chests? Did you accidentally throw your backpack or pickaxe into the lava?
A Pyrite Fishing Rod lets you get it all back. Just fish a few times, and you'll likely find what you lost. Or a guardian. Oops!

  • Pyrite Gum

This item is pretty straightforward—after eating it like a regular food, you can now *partially* bypass the hunger mechanic. Essentially, your food bar won't drop below the level that disables running. But only if you have sugar in your inventory, which will be consumed occasionally.

Porcelain

  • Porcelain Bowl

Soups in vanilla Minecraft. Who uses them? Well, now many will! This item allows you to store three different soups in one. Furthermore, Rabbit Stew will grant you *instant healing* for *20 seconds*. This means you'll be practically invulnerable during this time. Have fun!

  • Porcleain Jug

This item is similar to the previous one, but it does the same thing with potions. Fast, simple, and convenient.

  • Porcelain Plate

Ever find it odd that a player can eat a whole loaf of bread in one sitting, but can't eat a whole cake? Just approach the block and press Shift + Right Click to pick it up and get as consumable item. Furthermore, eating the cake will grant a potion effect that gradually restores hunger for *10 minutes*.

Velvet

  • Experiment 114

Experiment 114, resembing a chocolate cookie with custard, is normally just a decent snack. However! If an explosion occurs near it, it will transform into an altered version. This altered version will drain your experience (Level I = 8 levels, Level II = 16 levels, Level III = 24 levels) and grant you a potion effect called "Fortune's Grace", which is similar to vanilla "Luck," but affects chests in dungeons.

So yes, no more tedious searching for the right item with a 0.01% chance of spawning. And also, the name is a reference to the Twilight Forest.

  • Velvet Patch

If at any time your armor or tool is broken, the velvet patch will fuse with it and prevent destruction by restoring some of its durability.

Nacre

  • Nacre Scalpel

This item allows you to obtain feathers from chickens, leather from cows, and ink sacs from squids without harming them. You can use this item on a mob every 2 minutes. Sometimes it takes several clicks!

  • Fluff

Bonemeal, why doesn't it work on everything and always? Nacre Agent allows you to grow reeds, cacti, nether warts, and duplicate water lilies and vines.

  • Nacre Crown

In many modpacks, experience becomes a redundant mechanic at some point. There's a lot of it, but it's useless. Everything is already enchanted and repaired.
The Nacre Crown grants a small percentage of protection for each XP level the player has. However, the crown is quite fragile, so it will be destroyed upon death.

The Matters

All the matters have a two-hour timer. If you don't pay while this timer is running, you will be afflicted with one of four curses. The payment is an End Crystal, which must be placed on the Totem Brazier block. After a small explosion, the timer will be extended.

The matters are used as follows: you must click on an entity of a certain type, after which it will be transformed into a new one. The new entity drops crafting ingredients for all items.

List of matter-entity pairs:

  • Porcelain - Spider
  • Velvet - Cow (and Slime)
  • Pyrite - Iron Golem
  • Nacre - Ghast

In the case of slime, it will begin to shrink and then turn into the "animated custard", which is used to craft Experiment 114.

The Curses

As mentioned above, there are 4 curses in total.

  • Heavy Luxury - Reduces the player's walking speed with each enchantment applied to armor.
  • Mind Trick - Plays random sounds (hisses, screams, distorted breathing). Randomly summon a Creeper or Vex near the player.
  • Paper Skin - Sets the player on fire when exposed to sunlight. This can be prevented by wearing a helmet, but it will gradually break.
  • Gluttony - The player will refuse to eat any food other than golden apples and golden carrots.
