Lumina World 0.0.15
Curse Maven Snippet
What's new
0.0.15
The largest version so far, and two things at once.
Building. Stairs — 341 of them, cut from every full block vanilla never made stairs of — and the slabs, the corners and the stairs made into one system instead of three that merely resembled each other. A slab and a corner can now share a block. And which block is still missing which shape is nobody's list any more: the mod reads every block model there is and works it out for itself.
Realism. Thirty small ways the world behaves more the way things do — torches that go out in the rain, sea water that makes you thirstier, meat that goes off, trees that come down, nothing growing in the snow — and a fourth need beside hunger, thirst and warmth: vigour, a bar for how you are doing overall.
Every one of it is a game rule, all on by default, all on the settings screen, all switchable mid-game without starting a new world.

Added — building
Stairs for every block that had none, 341 of them. They behave like the block they were cut from, the way the slabs already did: magma burns your feet, ore pays out its ore and its experience, glass needs Silk Touch, leaves keep their biome colour and stay see-through, copper weathers and can be waxed, and a log flight strips with an axe. Six blocks in a staircase pattern give four, or one on the stonecutter gives one. Their own creative tab, Lumina Stairs, in the same material order as the other two — so a material sits in the same place in all three.
A slab and a quarter in one block. The half a slab leaves free takes corners now — one or both of the two quarters it holds — and it works from either end: put a corner into a slab, or lay a slab into the half some corners leave free. Flat slabs and standing ones alike, and the two quarters need not be the same material.
The slab stays a slab and the corner stays a corner. Nothing is converted into quarters of itself, so what comes out is what went in. Each piece comes out on its own, too: aim at the quarter and the quarter breaks, aim at the slab and the slab does, with drops, hardness and the tool it takes coming from the piece you are actually hitting. Both placing and breaking are forgiving about the exact eighth — a click that points at a place already taken goes to the place that is free.
One system behind all three shapes. What a piece was cut from, how it is drawn, how an axe or a honeycomb changes it: written once, working for any shape. A fourth costs a table, not a rewrite.
The mod finds the gaps itself. One scan of every block model there is — vanilla's out of the client jar, the mod's own out of its resources — decides which blocks are still missing which shape and writes the tables, the names and the mining tags. /luminamod cuts says how many pieces there are; /luminamod cuts missing lists the full blocks that have none, other mods' blocks included.
Added — the body
Vigour (luminaVigour), a bar on the left for how the body is holding up overall: rested, awake, tired, worn out, spent. It starts full and runs down with the day.
| It costs you | |
|---|---|
| Being awake | about three days on its own |
| Effort | sprinting, swinging, jumping, swimming, taking a hit |
| Digging | by how hard the block was |
| Building | every block put down, which vanilla counts as nothing |
| Staying up after dark | half as much again |
| Cold, heat, wet clothes | a third more, or most of it again where it is deadly |
| An empty stomach, a dry throat | each a little under half as much again |
| A hurt body, and having been down | up to two thirds more |
Only stopping brings it back: a lit campfire you actually hold still beside, a bed, a hot meal for a nudge. Warmth doubles what any rest is worth, and a night spent shivering is not a night's sleep.
Tired is slower to walk, dig and hit; worn out cannot run at all; spent is half the body you were. The damage is the damage you deal — what you take is untouched. It never costs health: thirst already ends in damage, and one bar making that threat is enough.
Counted in world time, so "about two days" stays two days however far the mod's clock is stretched.
Added — realism, in short
Torches go out instead of breaking and burn down over an hour. Rain douses campfires. Fire spreads by climate. Heat melts ice and snow. Sea water and unboiled water make you ill until they are boiled. Carried water freezes below −5 °C. Water hardens lava. Lightning fuses sand into glass. Armour and heavy items sink. Food poisons and spoils, and salt, salted meat and jerky keep it. Ice keeps food cold in an icebox. Trees fall when felled. Wounded animals limp and animals fear fire. Cows can be milked only so often. Fire leaves ash, campfires need firewood, clothes get wet, farmland dries, crops take frost, saplings mind the climate, hens lay by day and sheep regrow wool slowly. Nothing grows in the snow. Iron rusts. Unlit caves are truly dark, and anything that shines as a block shines as an item.
And rage (luminaRage): fighting builds it through four stages, each hitting harder, taking less, swinging and drawing faster — until in bloodlust every blow kills.
The full list is in the changelog in the repository.
Fixed
- Corners could not be mined for drops. A corner copies "needs a tool" from the block it was cut from but not the tag saying which tool counts, and no corner was ever in one — so a stone corner demanded a tool no tool satisfied: it broke at hand speed and dropped nothing whatever you hit it with. All 403 are tagged now, and so are the stairs.
That is the only one. Everything else that went wrong went wrong while this version was being built, and was gone before it left the workshop.
