Description
Locator Chat Color
See who's talking at a glance. This mod colors player names in chat to match their Locator Bar color, so the person you're chatting with is instantly recognizable — no more squinting at the tiny dot on your HUD and then scrolling back through chat to figure out who said what.
How it works
Minecraft's Locator Bar assigns each player a consistent color based on their identity (or their team, if they're on one). This mod reads that same color and applies it to their name in chat — matching what you already see on your HUD.
Features
- Automatic color matching — no manual setup, colors are calculated the same way the Locator Bar does
- Name-only mode — color just the player's name, or the whole message, your choice
- Simple config screen — bind a key to open it, toggle settings on the fly
- Lightweight — client-side only, no server requirements, no impact on gameplay
Installation
- Install Fabric API (required)
- Drop the jar into your
modsfolder - Bind a key to open the config screen (Options → Controls)
Known limitations
- Custom colors set via
/waypoint modifyare server-side and can't be read by the client, so they won't be reflected — team colors and the default identity-based color still work correctly - Not compatible with Bedrock/Geyser players (no Locator Bar color data available for them)
- Client-side only — works on any vanilla-compatible server, but only players running the mod will see the colored names
Compatibility
Built for Minecraft 26.2. Requires Fabric Loader and Fabric API.
