Local Locator 

 Local Locator is a client-side Fabric mod that restores the player-tracking compass, allowing you to find nearby friends even on servers where this feature's gamerule is disabled. Some servers turn off Minecraft's new Locator Compass. This mod reactivates it just for you, but only for players in your immediate area.

It's fully client-side, requires zero configuration, and assigns a unique color to each player on the compass for easy tracking. Just install it and find your friends!
