Level Zero 0.1.3 — Complete Overhaul

Liminality: The Backrooms has been rebuilt as Backrooms: Level Zero. This release brings the complete new Level 0 experience to the project, including the cinematic, audio and floor fixes developed through 0.1.3.

The new experience

• Four connected chapters through compact yellow rooms, low ceilings, offset doorways, optional branches and loops.
• A cinematic noclip introduction with a collapsing floor, broken ceilings, debris, reaching hands and a suspended fall.
• Rebuilt Bacteria behaviour: listening, investigation, stalking, pursuit and searching. Break sight and stay quiet; Bacteria cannot be killed.
• Chapter checkpoints preserve your current inventory after capture. Progress saves between sessions.
• A flashlight, found-footage effects, spatial ambience and quieter fluorescent audio.
• Separate multiplayer journeys with independent progression, creatures and building areas.
• Protected generated architecture with player building in side spaces; hunger exhaustion pauses during exploration.
• A cinematic service-corridor escape, Level 0 completion screen and Return to Overworld button.
• Reduced-motion, reduced-flashing, caption and effect-strength options. Space skips cinematics safely.

Included fixes

Smooth camera tracks and a destination-loading handshake keep the introduction stable. Cinematic sounds have been remastered. Version 0.1.3 removes holes through carpet and bedrock and repairs missing floor blocks in saved Level Zero chunks as they load, preserving room layouts and player builds.

Install / upgrade

Minecraft 1.21.1 · NeoForge 21.1.250+ · Java 21 · GeckoLib 4.8.3 (NeoForge 1.21.1, exact version). Install the mod and GeckoLib on both clients and server. TerraBlender is no longer required by this release.

Coming from the old Liminality 1.x mod? Back up your saves, remove the old JAR and start a new world. Level Zero is a new release line numbered 0.1.3, not a downgrade of the old experience. Existing Level Zero 0.1.0–0.1.2 worlds remain compatible; update every client and the server.

Enter through a rare unstable surface in newly generated Overworld terrain, or use /backrooms enter with cheats enabled. F toggles the flashlight. Space skips a cinematic. Use /backrooms recover if stranded.

Only Level 0 is playable. Future levels are still in development. A completed journey stays completed in that world.
