What's new

LetheMC 0.2.0.0

First release

Death takes everything you own — including your ender chest — and sends you to Purgatory.

Nothing drops when you die. Your inventory, ender chest, XP, advancements and statistics are taken, and you are locked out of the server for a stretch of real time that keeps counting while the server is offline. An admin can resurrect you inside a grace period and you return with everything, alive and in the world, without even seeing a death screen. Otherwise Purgatory expires and you are reincarnated — you come back as no one.

The ender chest is the point. Every other death-penalty mod leaves it alone, which is why players pre-stash their good gear and shrug the penalty off.

It follows you out into the world

  • Tamed pets and livestock are destroyed, along with whatever they were carrying — a loaded chest donkey parked somewhere safe is not a death-proof vault.
  • Foxes forget you, and a fox no living player trusts goes with them. Trust is cleared per slot, so one player's death never costs another theirs.
  • Trial vaults forget that a past life already looted them, so a reincarnated player is not silently refused by a vault they have never opened.
  • Villager reputation expires — discounts and grudges.
  • A trading hall built by one player is destroyed when that life ends. Only villagers actually traded with or cured count, and any living customer spares them.

While you are in Purgatory, none of it can be touched — not ridden, opened, harmed or traded with, by anyone. You are offline and cannot defend it, and a resurrection is meant to give it all back intact.

For admins

Every behaviour is a config key, settable in-game and applied immediately. Separate permissions decide who dies and who can resurrect, so you are not forced to choose between having admins and having stakes — by default nobody is exempt. Admins cannot resurrect themselves. /lethemc admin hardcore on converts a world to hardcore, which vanilla cannot do for a world that already exists. Tab completion everywhere, including on players currently in Purgatory — who are offline, and so invisible to vanilla's own suggestions.

Requirements

  • Java 25. The jar is compiled to Java 25 and will not load on an older runtime.
  • pause-when-empty-seconds=0. A paused server stops ticking exactly when a dying player has left, so the wipe would silently never happen — LetheMC refuses to run rather than half-work, and says why.
  • Built for dedicated servers. Players install nothing; a vanilla client just connects.

On NeoForge this version also loads in single-player worlds, where the lockout has no admin to lift it. 0.2.0.1 adds a guard that stands the mod down there — use that release if there is any chance of the jar landing in a single-player instance.
