Legacy Bedrock Preservation

Did you know 1.18+ world upgrades overwrite the bottom 5 Y-levels of old chunks before adding caves? This mod fixes that! It completely preserves your historical chunk data while forcing new caverns to generate flush right beneath your original bedrock!

v1.0.2 — Bedrock Preservation Fix

The mod actually works now! Pre-1.18 bedrock is properly preserved when an older world is converted to 1.18.2 instead of being replaced with deepslate. Old chunks keep their original terrain and player-made changes at Y=0 and above, including the original bedrock layer. The new 1.18 terrain still generates normally underneath old chunks from Y=-1 down to Y=-64, including the new bedrock layer at the bottom of the world. Tested with natural 1.17.1 terrain as well as heavily modified chunks with removed bedrock, redstone, glass, containers with items, and other player-placed blocks. Tested the borders between old 1.17.1 chunks and completely new 1.18.2 chunks. After the world has been successfully converted, it can be opened and played in regular vanilla 1.18.2 without the mod or Forge installed. Changed the license from MIT to All Rights Reserved to match the mod itself.

IMPORTANT: Please make a backup of your world before converting it. Even though the mod has been successfully tested, you should always keep an untouched copy of an older world before upgrading it.
