LC Music
On-demand music for Minecraft servers, without a full resource reload.
LC Music lets server owners add OGG tracks to a folder and lets players download new or changed tracks with a command. Music is cached per server and checked with SHA-256. Nothing is downloaded automatically when a player joins.
Features
- Add or replace
.oggtracks in the server'slcmusic/songsfolder without rebuilding the mod. - Players use
/lcmusic syncto download new or changed tracks. The same command removes tracks deleted from that server, freeing local disk space without affecting other server caches. - Play individual tracks for selected players with position, volume, pitch, and minimum-volume options similar to vanilla
/playsound. - Use folders as playlists. Play tracks in alphabetical order or shuffle them, with optional repeat.
- Skip forward or back through each player's playlist. Previous follows the actual playback history, including shuffled tracks.
- Stop one track or all LC Music playback for selected players.
- Use command suggestions to find available track IDs and playlist names while typing.
- Players who have not synced a requested track receive an in-game reminder to run
/lcmusic sync. - Uses Minecraft's Jukebox/Records volume control. If Jukebox or Master volume is turned off and then restored, the active track restarts from the beginning.
Requirements
Minecraft Java 1.20.1, Forge 47.4.10, and Java 17. Install the same LC Music mod JAR on the server and on every participating client.
Adding music
Place OGG files in lcmusic/songs under the server's game directory:
lcmusic/songs/
theme.ogg
playlist_1/
track1.ogg
track2.ogg
The track IDs are theme, playlist_1/track1, and playlist_1/track2. IDs are lowercase even when filenames contain uppercase letters. A playlist uses tracks directly inside its folder. For positional playback, mono OGG Vorbis is recommended; stereo audio may not attenuate as expected.
Current limits: 16 MiB per track, 256 tracks, and 128 MiB total. MP3 and WAV conversion is not included.
Commands
/lcmusic sync is available to players. Playback commands require operator permission level 2.
/lcmusic sync
/lcmusic play <track_id> <players> [position] [volume] [pitch] [minimumVolume]
/lcmusic stop [players] [track_id]
/lcmusic playlist play <players> <playlist> [shuffle] [repeat]
/lcmusic playlist next <players>
/lcmusic playlist prev <players>
shuffle and repeat default to false. /lcmusic stop without arguments stops LC Music playback for the operator running it. Player selectors can be @s, @a, or a player name.
Examples:
/lcmusic play theme @a ~ ~ ~ 1 1 0
/lcmusic playlist play @a playlist_1 true true
/lcmusic playlist next @a
/lcmusic playlist prev @s
/lcmusic stop @a
Note: Track and playlist suggestions list files available on the server. Players still need to run /lcmusic sync before hearing tracks they have not downloaded. Only upload music you have the rights to distribute to players.
