The problem
In some modpacks, items dropped into lava don't burn anymore. They float on the surface or sink, and never disappear. Players can't use lava as a trash can, and lava pits fill up with junk that stays loaded forever.
The fix
This mod restores vanilla behavior:
- Items that touch lava burn instantly, with the vanilla burning sound.
- Fire-resistant items survive (netherite gear and any item with the fire-resistant component), exactly like in vanilla.
- Protected items are left alone: items made invulnerable by another mod, such as protected boss loot, don't burn. You can turn this off in the config.
- It also catches items floating right on the lava surface.
Configuration
The config file is serverconfig/lavaitemfix-server.toml in your world folder:
| Option | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
protegerInvulnerables |
true |
Don't burn items made invulnerable by another mod. Set it to false if items still don't burn: another mod is probably making every item invulnerable. |
delaiTicks |
0 |
Ticks spent in lava before the item burns (0 = instant, 20 = 1 second). |
respecterIndestructiblesItemPhysic |
true |
With ItemPhysic: never burn items from its undestroyableItems list. |
journal |
false |
Writes every burned item to the server log, to check that the mod works. |
ItemPhysic compatibility
ItemPhysic makes every item that isn't in its burningItems list fireproof (iron, stone, ores…), so those items never burn in lava. Lava Item Fix destroys burning items directly, so it works with ItemPhysic out of the box. It still respects ItemPhysic's undestroyableItems list, and the rest of ItemPhysic (physics, pickup, floating) is untouched.
Installation
- Server only. Put the jar in the server's
modsfolder. Players don't need it. - Requires NeoForge 21.1.x for Minecraft 1.21.1.
- No dependencies.
