Locator Triangulator

Locator Triangulator is a client-side Fabric mod for 26.3. It works out where other players are using the data your locator bar already gets from the server.

The server sends different data depending on how far away a player is. The mod uses each kind:

• Inside your view distance: their exact position.
• Outside view distance but under 332 blocks: the chunk they’re in, accurate to about ±8 blocks.
• 332 blocks or more: only an angle. The mod saves every angle along with where you were standing when it arrived. Once you have angles from a few different spots, it finds where the lines cross.

For far players, move sideways relative to them to get a fix. 20–60 blocks of sprinting is usually enough to place someone thousands of blocks away.

Features

• HUD list of every tracked player, showing coordinates, distance, an error radius and how old the data is. The colour shows the data type: visible, exact, chunk, triangulated or heading only.
• “Last seen” markers: when someone drops off your bar (sneaking, a pumpkin, leaving range or a dimension), a grey dot stays on your locator bar at their last known position.
• Lag compensation: each angle is paired with where you were when the server measured it, not where you are when it arrives.
• Stale and moving checks: it flags estimates as “moving?” or “bearings disagree” instead of showing a confident wrong answer.

Controls

• K: toggle the HUD (rebind it in Controls)
• /tri: print all estimates to chat
• /tri clear [player], /tri hud, /tri ghosts
• /tri halflife <seconds>: how quickly old angles stop counting (default 45; lower it for players who are moving)
• /tri hudpos <x> <y>: move the HUD

Notes

• It gives X and Z only, no height.
• It assumes the target is mostly idle while you take angles.
• It shows player positions that the vanilla bar hides, so check your server’s rules before using it in multiplayer.
