Last Exposure
One shutter click. One missing subject. One photograph left behind.
Last Exposure adds a cursed instant camera: photograph a mob, dropped item, or breakable block and it vanishes permanently while the camera prints a collectible photo. Darkness and eerie shutter sounds make every exposure unsettling.
Features
- Craftable Cursed Instant Camera, usable in either hand.
- Printed photos are locked map items: hold them or display them in item frames.
- Server-rendered, pixelated scenes with block colors, dark entity silhouettes, and a white instant-photo border. Photos are stylized map art rather than full-detail screenshots.
- Defaults: 24-block range, one paper per shot outside Creative, two-second cooldown, and three seconds of Darkness.
- Server configuration for range, paper cost, cooldown, Darkness, block/entity capture, and photo resolution.
Getting started
Install the beta JAR with Minecraft Java 26.3 and Forge 66.0.9 (Java 25). Install the same mod on clients and the server. No additional mod dependencies.
Find the camera in Tools & Utilities, or use /give @s lastexposure:cursed_camera. Hold paper in your inventory, aim, then right-click.
Crafting recipe, top to bottom:
Iron Ingot | Iron Ingot | Iron Ingot
Glass | Amethyst Shard | Glass
Iron Ingot | Paper | Iron Ingot
Before you take a picture
Captured subjects disappear without normal loot. Back up worlds and try the camera in a test world first. Players, unbreakable blocks, chests and other block entities, and entities riding or carrying passengers cannot be captured. Adventure and Spectator use is disabled. Block capture respects Forge block-break denial and vanilla spawn permissions; compatibility with every entity-protection or claim mod is not guaranteed.
Beta status
Version 0.2.0-beta.1 passed 16 mod GameTests, a live Linux client capture/display check, photo-packet round-trip checks, and saved-map validation. Windows gameplay, audible speaker output, and real two-client network play still need testing.
