Laser Excavator - Version 1.1 Changelog

Full replacement of 1.0

In short:

  • A new 3-Tier solar upgrade
  • Ingame Client-side Rendering Setting with 5 presets and an advanced settings menu
  • A whitelist mode added to the filter
  • UI improvements such as custom buttons, a separate screen for the filter menu and hints why upgrades could be locked
  • Fluidtick suppression in the excavation area stopping water from flowing
  • Serverside optimizations leading to around 25% less CPU time needed as well as less memory used
  • Ported to 1.20.1 and 26.1.2
  • Various bug fixes

In detail:

Solar Upgrades

  • Added three tiers of Solar Upgrades, generating 80, 160, and 320 FE/t by default
  • Solar energy is generated during the day (06:00–18:00) when the excavator has sufficient sky access
  • Solar power takes priority over the internal fuel generator, reducing fuel consumption

Improved Filtering System

  • Added a Whitelist mode for selecting which blocks are excavated
  • Added Shift-click support to insert blocks directly from the player inventory into the filter
  • Added duplicate prevention when inserting, copying, and pasting filter entries
  • Reworked the filter screen to look better

Client-Side Rendering Settings

  • Added a dedicated rendering settings menu accessible from the excavator interface
  • Added five graphics presets: Minimal, Performance, Balanced, Quality, Extreme
  • Added an Advanced settings menu with individually adjustable rendering parameters
  • Added transport rendering modes: Normal, Dots, and Off
  • Rendering settings are stored locally for each player

Performance Improvements

  • Improved serverside performance by reworking the loot cache, the target selection, the filter scanning, the synchronization between broken blocks on the server and the clients, the fuel generator and the inventory and delivery checks
  • In total reduces needed CPU time by around 25%; one max speed excavator takes now around 10 mikroseconds of server time which is (according to my tests with observable) halve the time a singular sheep running around needs
  • Also added larger stress tests with the largest containing 5000 excavator which is the limit for my PC for now, though the server was still running at nearly 20TPS mining 6 million blocks per minute

Ported to 1.20.1 and 26.1.2

  • These versions have feature parity and run similarly well on the server side
  • As minecraft changed a lot in its rendering the 26.1.2 versions rendering is around 20% faster and the 1.20.1 version is around 40% slower though these are more minecraft internal reasons (still runs well on all versions until you build hundreds of excavators), all tests were done without performance enhancing mods

Bug fixes

  • Suppress water ticks so water should not flow randomly into the excavator ares (does not fully work in 1.20.1)
  • Fixed duplicate entries in the filter menu
  • Fixed a potential memory leak that one of the optimization could cause (the ingestion budget)
  • Fixed a potential desynchronization between server and client if another player places a block where the excavator has removed one but has not yet send the info to another client
  • In 26.1.2 fixed saplings using a block model instead of an item
  • Tons of other code changes mostly meant to improve readability and maintainability
