V12 Apex
A drivable V12 hypercar for Minecraft Forge 1.20.1.
V12 Apex adds a fully drivable, server-authoritative supercar with a custom 3D model, a layered engine sound, drifting, and arcade-style handling. The design is inspired by Italian V12 hypercars, but it is an original model and brand.
Features
Driving
- Server-authoritative physics, so it works properly in multiplayer.
- 7-speed automatic gearbox with a reverse gear.
- Top speed of 355 km/h.
- Hold the handbrake to drift. Wheel slip and grip change as you slide.
- Climbs one-block steps automatically.
- Drives straight through grass, flowers, snow layers, carpets and other passable blocks.
- Crashing into walls bounces you back with a screen shake and impact sound. It never throws you out of the seat or damages the car.
Combat and damage
- The car has 100 HP, shown on the dashboard.
- Anyone who attacks the driver hits the car instead of the player.
- At 0 HP the car doesn't explode. It drops back as a key item and keeps its colour.
- Hitting a living entity knocks it forward, and the faster you go, the harder it is hit.
- Items and XP orbs are ignored.
Look and feel
- Custom detailed 3D model with level-of-detail rendering for performance.
- Scissor doors that swing open when you enter or exit. The inner door panel hides while the door is open.
- First-person cockpit with a steering wheel that turns as you steer.
- Speed-based field of view, camera shake, launch squat and braking dive.
- Speed lines on screen when you are very fast.
- Tire smoke and dug-up ground at the rear wheels while drifting.
- Explosion-style bursts and a boom sound as you cross speed thresholds.
- Digital HUD showing speed, RPM, gear, engine state and car health.
- 9 paint colours.
Sound
- Engine audio built from several RPM layers (idle, mid, high, top end).
- Ignition sound on start-up.
- Tire-skid sound while drifting, plus crash and boom sounds.
Controls
| Action | Key |
|---|---|
| Start / stop engine | K |
| Accelerate / brake / reverse | W / S |
| Steer | A / D |
| Handbrake (drift) | Space |
| Exit the car | Shift |
The car seats 2: the driver and one passenger.
Getting started
Craft the V12 Apex Key.

Right-click the ground with the key to place the car, and right-click the car to get in. Dye the key to choose the paint colour.
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.20.1
- Forge 47.3.0 or newer
- Java 17
The empty spray can is already in the mod, so you don’t need to build anything new. It’s crafted at a crafting table like this:

That’s 8 iron nuggets around 1 glass bottle, and it gives one Empty Spray Can. This comes from the recipe file in your project. I haven’t run the game to try it.
The compressor GUI also has an “Empty Spray” slot, so the can is part of the colour-fill step. I haven’t traced exactly how the compressor fills it with dye. The item text says painting a whole car needs a full spray can, and I haven’t traced the painting code either. I can walk through both if you want to adjust them.
The compressor is the block that turns an empty spray can into a coloured one, using water and dye.
Crafting the compressor (crafting table)

Making a coloured spray can

- Place the compressor and right-click it to open the screen.
- Fill the three input slots:
- Top slot: Empty Spray Can
- Bottom-left slot: Water Bucket
- Bottom-right slot: any dye. The dye’s colour becomes the spray colour.

- The coloured spray can appears in the result slot on the right. Taking it uses up 1 empty can and 1 dye, and the water bucket comes back as an empty bucket.
- If you close the screen, any items left in the input slots go back to your inventory
Painting a car
- Hold a coloured spray can and right-click the car to repaint it. Sneaking (Shift) while clicking skips the painting.
- The can must be full. Otherwise you get the message “Not enough paint: painting a whole car needs a full spray can.” and nothing is painted. Holding right-click also sprays blocks, which uses the can up.
- The car’s colour is saved on its key, so picking the car up and placing it again keeps the colour.
The tank
- The tank is a gauge from empty to full. A new car starts full.
- The “E … F” fuel dial sits to the left of the speedometer, and its low end turns red below 15%.
- The fuel level is saved on the car’s key. That works when you pick the car up and now also when it’s destroyed.
Using fuel
- Fuel only burns while the engine is on.
- The rate is a small amount at idle, more as speed rises, and a bit extra while you hold forward.
- Calculated at 20 ticks per second, a full tank lasts about 46 minutes at idle and about 5 minutes flat out.
- At 0% the engine shuts off and you get the “out of fuel” message. You can’t restart it until you refuel, and the restart attempt shows a “no fuel” message.

Refuelling
- Right-click the car with a Gasoline Bucket. Each bucket adds half a tank, and you get an empty bucket back. In creative mode the bucket isn’t used up.
- If the tank is already about 97% full or more, you get a “tank full” message and the bucket isn’t used.
- You can’t refuel while sneaking, because sneaking-click picks the car up instead.
Getting gasoline
- Smelt an Oil Bucket in a blast furnace. It takes 200 ticks (10 seconds) and gives 0.35 XP, and the result is a Gasoline Bucket.
- The mod has oil and gasoline as fluids. I haven’t checked where oil comes from in the world, so I can’t say how players find it yet.

V12 Apex is an original fan-made design and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any car manufacturer.
Before you publish, check three things against the actual build:
- Recipe: it follows what you described (iron block / glass / redstone) with the layout from
v12_apex_key.json. Check the row 2 and row 3 order against the file. - Key behaviour: I wrote "right-click the ground with the key to place the car" and "dye the key to choose the colour" from how I remember the design. I haven't played this build, so please confirm both.
- Sound rights: the engine, drift and boom sounds came from recordings you supplied. Make sure you have the right to redistribute them, or publishing could be a problem
