KillFX

A simple PvP mod that adds customizable kill effects, sounds, and animations. Great for your SMP projects.

Features

- Effects play at the victim's position when a player gets a kill
- 6 effects: Lightning (visual-only, no fire or damage), Soul, Inferno, Firework, Totem, Shadow
- 12 kill sounds, including Thunder, Totem, Wither, Dragon and Level Up
- 5 animations: Burst, Spiral, Shockwave, Rising, None
- Every player picks their own combination
- Effects are server-side and use vanilla particles and sounds, so players don't need to install anything to see them
- Optional client menu with a color theme picker and fully customizable keybinds
- Fabric and Forge for Minecraft 1.21.1+

Commands

- `/killfx` shows your current settings
- `/killfx effect <name>`
- `/killfx sound <name>`
- `/killfx animation <name>`
- `/killfx toggle` turns your effects on or off
- `/killfx preview` plays your effect in front of you
- `/killfx list` shows every option
- `/killfx reset` goes back to the server defaults

Server config

The config is created on first start at `config/killfx.json`. You can set the default effect, sound and animation, change volume, pitch and particle amount, and choose whether mobs trigger effects. You can also turn off player customization to force everyone onto the defaults. Player choices are saved in `config/killfx-players.json`.

Client menu and keybinds

Install the mod on your client to get a settings menu. The menu runs the `/killfx` commands, so the server needs KillFX too.

- **Open KillFX Menu** is bound to `K` by default
- **Preview Kill Effect** is unbound by default
- **Both keybinds are customizable** in Controls > KillFX

Pick a color theme with the swatches in the menu sidebar, or set any hex color in `config/killfx-client.json`.
