What's new
The Ruined Forge
A building that generates in the world — plains, forests, taiga, meadows, one every forty chunks or so and never beside a village. That is a little rarer than a village: far enough to be worth travelling to, close enough that the eye below finds one. Above ground it is a workshop: chests, barrels, three people who still work there and do not want visitors. Below it, behind a gate that will not open, is the hall they are guarding.
The gate opens when the last defender falls, four rows of it sinking into the floor. Down the stairs is an anvil, and the anvil wants what the forge always wanted: a flame essence, offered by hand. That summons what the workshop was built around.
The hall itself does not break. Its walls, floor and the workshop floor above it are as solid as the gate — digging in from the side would be a way of skipping a fight that is supposed to be fought through the door.
The Last Oath Smith
320 health, 18 armour, and a hammer he has had longer than you have been alive. Every overhead blow draws a ring on the floor before it lands, so what is coming is always readable — and he aims through the wind-up, which is the part that makes him hard. Stepping aside early no longer works; the ring follows until four ticks before contact.
He closes. A swing carries him up to three blocks forward, and while you are running away he speeds up instead of falling behind — in the second phase he is quicker than a sprint. The bonus drops the moment he is back in range, so backing off buys the wind-up, not the hit.
Every slam leaves the floor molten for five seconds. By the end of a long fight the arena is written over with his own misses, and standing still is the one thing that stops working.
At 60 % health he heats the hammer. The second phase drags it: sparks off the floor when he walks, shorter pauses, sweeping cuts, a fissure that runs along the ground — and the chain. The weight flies out, hooks you, hauls you in, and the strike is already swinging when you arrive.
He drops his hammer every time. His draconic core — see below — drops just under half the time.
Three who defend it
The Oathbound Guard (64 health, 8 armour) fights behind a shield and is the only one of the three who answers what you do. Hit the raised shield and you are turned aside; hit it with an axe and the stance breaks — he staggers back two blocks and the opening is yours. He bashes with the shield to make room, then brings the hammer down.
The Ashen Squire (36 health) is the fast one: a lunge with the tongs and a hop straight back out of reach, and a coal he takes from his pouch, blows on until it glows and throws. Under half health he does all of it faster.
The Fallen Smith (110 health) carries a pick in one hand and a furnace on his back. The pick comes down overhead, the gauntlet steps in, and when you crowd him he folds up and vents — two pulses of heat that push a burning ring out along the floor.
Nothing here uses a vanilla particle
Every effect in the forge is the mod's own: embers that rise and die, ash that swells and fades, sparks that fall and bounce, the heat flash. The rings and cracks on the floor are drawn geometry, not circles built out of individual particles — a warning ring is one flat shape, so it reads as a shape rather than as a dotted line, and costs one packet instead of thirty.
The Awakened Oath Hammer
Every branch's top weapon is paid for with that branch's core. The draconic core was the exception: nothing in the mod consumed it, and the guaranteed trophy for killing the smith was a plain weapon weaker than an axe made of three ingots and two sticks.
The hammer, the core and two tempered ingots now make the Awakened Oath Hammer: 34 damage, slower than the great axe, and everything it hits catches fire. Right-click and he does what the smith does — slams the ground, 9 damage in four blocks, everything thrown outward, and the circle burns for six seconds afterwards. The damage is the smaller half; taking the ground away is the point.
The great axe and the draconic chestplate now take a core as well, which is what every other branch already cost.
An eye for the forge, and three that could not be crafted
The Eye of the Ruined Forge finds the nearest one within about 1150 blocks: right-click, and a seeking eye flies off toward it while the item stays in your hand. Ten-second cooldown, and finding nothing costs nothing.
While adding it we found that the four older eyes all shared one recipe. Minecraft answers an identical shaped recipe with whichever it finds first, so three of the four could never be crafted at all. Each now has its own marker ingredient — blaze powder, sand, soul sand, blue ice, magma block.
Kaelo moves differently
His choreography was seven hand-written pose tables; it is now seven authored clips, and the difference is in the parts between the poses. Every attack has a wind-up, a contact and a follow-through, the torso turns against the arms, the head leads. Switching moves cross-fades instead of snapping, so a parry that becomes a counter flows.
His hits, his guard window and his lock-on frames are unchanged. Vanilla's own attack animation is held back while a clip plays: a clip adds to the pose rather than replacing it, so the two would otherwise swing at once.
The blades were redrawn
The six named blades are 64×64 now, four times the detail they carried, with a sixteen-frame glow that runs from hilt to point rather than sparkling at random. Dark blades — Nightfall, Voidreaver — keep a dark outline with a lit edge one pixel inside it, because an inventory slot is grey and a black blade with a black rim has no silhouette in one. The king's armour icons were redrawn at 32×32.
