Unfortunately, i do not have the time or technology to develop this in the manner i had planned. It will sit as is for the time being. It is MIT and if someone wants to take over the project, let me know. It will likely not see any updates for quite some time.
For another project that may suit your needs, see https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/chime-fabric
We all like CIT, lets face it, its amazing to be able to modify item appearance with just a resource pack, but sadly, optifine is designed for Forge and vanilla and makes HUGE changes to the way the game works.
With that in mind, here is a mod that will let you apply custom models to items based on nbt values, right in the json itself.
see the wiki for usage information.
NOTE: The 2 options provided in the config/modmenu are experimental. They are off by default, if you enable them and something breaks, please tell me :)
NOTE2: if you look at the code and cringe, and see a better way to do it, open an issue and explain it, i'm dense but willing to learn.
And before anyone asks: No i wont port to forge but the source is freely available and MIT licensed so feel free to do it yourself.
