THE CONTRACTS
Your progression begins by discovering and signing one of two powerful contracts hidden throughout the world.
Each contract completely changes the way your character develops.
Choose carefully.
MINDBOUND CONTRACT
Hidden within the depths of an Ancient City is a lectern holding a mysterious contract.
Signing this contract grants access to powerful Spatial Abilities unlike normal Iron's Spells.
These techniques are custom-made abilities designed around manipulating space, controlling areas, and unleashing extremely powerful supernatural attacks.
Spatial techniques are divided into three main categories:
-Spatial Arts
-Masterworks
-Territories
INSCRIPTION & CORTEX
Spatial abilities are not simply unlocked and equipped like normal spells.
They must first be created using special Artifex materials.
One of the most important materials is Dark Ink, which can be discovered inside Ancient City chests.
You will also need Cortex Shards, which are obtained by defeating powerful supernatural enemies throughout the world.
Once a technique has been created, it can be bound to your character using the Inscription Altar.
Choose your abilities carefully.
Once a technique has been permanently inscribed into your Cortex, replacing it is intentionally difficult and requires rare resources.
Your choices are meant to matter.
BODYBOUND CONTRACT
Deep within the heat of a Nether Fortress, another lectern can be discovered.
Signing this contract grants access to Cursed Combat.
Instead of focusing on traditional spellcasting, Cursed Combat takes a much more physical approach.
The Bodybound path relies on close combat. Rather than simply casting spells, you build an actual combat style.
CURSED COMBAT
Bodybound attacks are designed around a combo system.
Throughout the skill tree, you can unlock different types of techniques.
Unlocked abilities can be equipped through the Ability Menu, allowing you to build your own combat loadout.
Different techniques can be combined in different ways, so your progression is not only about becoming stronger — it is also about learning how your abilities work together.
SKILL TREES & PROGRESSION
Both contracts feature their own progression systems and skill trees.
Completing combat challenges, exploration objectives, training tasks, and other activities allows you to earn progression and unlock new upgrades.
You will gradually gain access to stronger techniques, better stats, additional abilities, and more advanced parts of your chosen path.
The goal of Artifex is to make progression feel earned rather than simply giving the player every ability immediately.
CHALLENGE & TRAINING JOURNAL
Artifex includes a dedicated Challenge Journal that helps guide your progression.
Use it to see what activities you can complete next and what you should be working toward.
Challenges can involve things such as exploration, combat, major acheivments.
If you are unsure what to do next, check your Journal.
BUILD YOUR OWN PLAYSTYLE
Artifex is designed around giving players meaningful choices.
A Bodybound player may focus on aggressive combos and movement, while another builds around durability, counters, and defense.
A Mindbound player may specialize in powerful spatial attacks, battlefield control, or advanced Masterworks.
You are not expected to unlock everything.
Explore, train, experiment, and build around the abilities that fit your playstyle.
CURRENT DEVELOPMENT
Artifex is currently under heavy development.
Many more abilities, progression systems, balance changes, visual improvements, structures, items, and features are planned for future updates.
Because the project is actively being developed, bugs and balance issues may still occur.
If you want to support the project, one of the best ways to help is by leaving:
