🌍 Iourus Lands
Iourus Lands is a world generation overhaul designed to improve Minecraft’s vanilla terrain while preserving the systems that already work well.
Rather than replacing the Overworld with a completely different generation system, Iourus Lands expands upon Minecraft’s existing world generation to create larger, more coherent, and more geographically structured landscapes.
The goal is simple: make the Overworld feel like a real continent-scale world while still feeling like Minecraft.
🗺️ Improved Vanilla World Generation
Vanilla Minecraft terrain can change significantly over relatively short distances, often creating isolated mountains, small plains, or rapidly shifting landscapes.
Iourus Lands restructures terrain generation around large-scale geographical regions.
Terrain is generated through multiple layers operating at different scales. Large-scale functions define the general shape and elevation of the land, while regional and local functions determine individual landforms and surface detail.
This allows the world to form recognizable geographical features such as:
-
Large continental landmasses
-
Expansive lowlands and plains
-
Rolling hills
-
Highland regions
-
Extended mountain ranges
-
Natural foothills
-
Valleys and secondary valleys
-
Plateaus
-
Large cliffs
-
Localized 3D terrain and overhangs
Instead of every terrain feature being independent, these systems work together to create smoother and more logical transitions between regions.
⛰️ Multi-Scale Terrain Generation
Iourus Lands separates macro terrain from local terrain detail.
Large-scale generation determines where major geographical regions should exist. Additional terrain functions then control their strength, shape, elevation, and smaller details.
For example, mountain generation is divided into different components controlling the mountain region, overall strength, main mountain body, surrounding foothills, and local detail.
Valleys, plateaus, cliffs, and other landforms follow similar regional rules.
The result is terrain that can remain geographically consistent across long distances while still maintaining variation at the player level.
🌄 More Than a Heightmap
Most of the world is shaped through large-scale elevation and terrain functions, but Iourus Lands also introduces localized 3D density variation.
This allows certain formations such as cliffs and overhangs to modify terrain beyond a simple 2D heightmap, creating more complex vertical shapes without turning the entire Overworld into extreme terrain.
⛏️ Built on Minecraft’s Existing Systems
Iourus Lands does not attempt to replace every part of Minecraft’s world generator.
Instead, it focuses primarily on improving the large-scale shape of the Overworld while retaining important vanilla generation systems where appropriate, including much of Minecraft’s underground cave and aquifer generation.
This approach keeps the world compatible with Minecraft’s core generation philosophy while significantly changing the geography above ground.
🏰 Designed for Large Worlds
The increased geographical scale makes Iourus Lands especially suitable for:
-
Medieval and fantasy modpacks
-
RPG worlds
-
Long-term survival worlds
-
Large settlements
-
Cities and castles
-
Kingdom and territory systems
-
Exploration-focused gameplay
Large plains provide space for settlements, mountain ranges can form natural borders, valleys create passages through difficult terrain, and highlands or plateaus provide naturally defensible locations.
⚙️ Generation Philosophy
Iourus Lands is not designed around making every chunk spectacular.
It is designed around making the world as a whole more interesting.
Instead of constantly placing extreme terrain next to extreme terrain, the generator gives geographical features room to develop across larger areas.
The result is an Overworld that remains recognizably Minecraft, but with a stronger sense of scale, structure, and natural geography.
Vanilla Minecraft, on a larger and more geographically coherent scale.
