What's new

A complete overhaul. The stones now look and feel the way they did on screen and the Snap is the moment it should be; the heroes and nearly every species have moves of their own; the bosses fight smarter, show their rage and have their own music; the vaults are rebuilt as real places; Titan is a ruined city with Thanos waiting on his throne; there is a new realm, Jotunheim, with Laufey in his hall; and Tony's nanotech suit and Peter's Iron Spider are here. The interface, the Field Guide, the road from the first map to Thanos and much of the art were redone as well, and a long list of things that went wrong in a real world now go right.

The stones and the Snap

Added

  • The Snap is the climax it should be. As your arm comes up, the six stones light in your hand one after another, Power to Mind. When the fingers meet there is a white burst in the hand, a shaft of light into the sky, and a wall of light that races 160 blocks out across the land, with a second, fainter one behind it and a bright line where it meets the ground. Everyone within 320 blocks sees it come and pass them. Each snap has its own light over the picture: Balance is Thanos's violet and gold, with ash drifting down for a while; I Am Iron Man is red-gold; Restore is Hulk's warm gold, with the wall drawing in instead of out and motes of light rising from the ground; Destroy the Stones tears the six stones apart in their six colours before the world goes white and then dark; Rebirth sends out a smaller wall in the colour of your new body.
  • The Snap is filmed (when saga.cutscenes is on, as for the forging). The moment the fingers meet, the camera pulls back from you and wheels round you as the wall goes out. A shot that a wall or a ceiling would spoil is tried shorter and from the other side, and left out if none is clear (so in a cave you keep your own eyes). Backspace skips it, as it skips every cutscene.
  • Powers kick the camera. Power Blast recoils (the lens narrows, the head jerks up), the Shockwave nods your head down and shakes the ground for everyone near, Blink stretches the lens wide and lets it snap back, Stop Time pinches it still, the Infinity Purge throws it wide and shakes everything 40 blocks round, Annihilation and Unravel push it out, Enthrall draws it in, and Soul Harvest pulses as the souls are torn loose.
  • Beams have the character of their stone. Power Blast is a core with three forked strands of lightning that jump every two ticks, sparks at the kinks and a wide flare where it lands; the Mind Beam winds two strands round its core; Annihilation is both at once.
  • The great powers raise domes and columns of light: a dome of force for the Infinity Purge, Unravel, Enthrall, Dominion and Stop Time, a dome that folds inward for Dormammu's Loop, a column of light where Moonfall will come down, and one for the Soul Harvest.
  • Moonfall brings down the moon. After the shards comes a great burning chunk of it (two from a gauntlet holding four or more stones), slow enough to watch, three blocks across, that lands with a far bigger blast. Every piece of moon, and every rock of the Meteor Storm, now lands with a flash, a ring and a column of dust in proportion to its size, and the ground jumps.
  • Other players' stones show. Anyone near you holding a bare stone or a gauntlet gives off motes of the stone's colour at their hand (a complete gauntlet cycles all six), and now and then you hear its hum.
  • Your thralls are outlined in blue (Mind Stone), through walls, so you can tell yours in a crowd.
  • Each stone's icon moves in its own way: the Time Stone's clock hand sweeps round and a ring ripples out, stars wink in the Space Stone, the Power Stone's force draws in to a ring of sparks, the Aether swirls, embers rise in the Soul Stone, the Mind Stone pulses and flashes. Their shape and first frame are as before.

Changed

  • Every bare stone hovers in your hand as a cut, turning, glowing gem, the way the Time Stone always did, instead of a flat picture poking in from the corner. The Time Stone floats highest, over the palm as in Strange's hands; the others ride at the fingertips.
  • Each stone has its own cut, matching its icon: the Orb's stone round, the Tesseract's a bevelled block, the Aether an uneven clot, the Soul Stone a drop, the Eye's stone an oval brilliant, the Scepter's a tall lozenge. The same cut lies on the ground where a meteor left it.
  • The gauntlet's icon shows its stones. The six socketed stones are jewels a finger wide, each in its own stone's shape, set in a dark line so that even the gold Mind Stone stands off the gold glove: they can be told apart on the hotbar. The empty sockets are bigger to match. The same goes for the Nano Gauntlet, the scorched gauntlets and the mod's icon.
  • The palm of the 3D gauntlet is a quilted lining sewn with metal thread instead of a plain brown slab (seen in third person).
  • The white flash on the snapper's screen is shorter (just under a second instead of over two), so the burst and the wall can be seen through it.
  • Your powers know who is on your side. Your own pets, your team-mates, villagers and the mod's traders, golems people built, allays, the Vision and the Stonekeeper are no longer hurt by your area powers: Shockwave, Infinity Purge, the Power Blast's explosion, Cataclysm, the Annihilation beam, Reaping, Entropy, the Gamma Thunderclap and landing Smash (except in a Rampage, which spares nobody), the Chaos Wave, the Unibeam, the Kinetic Pulse, and the God of Thunder's Call Lightning, Storm Burst and awakening. Enthrall no longer enslaves your own pets. Other players who are not on your team are still fair game where the server allows it.
  • The stones know every boss. Unravel and Soul Harvest no longer kill Proxima Midnight, Corvus Glaive, Cull Obsidian, Ebony Maw, Loki, Ultron, Laufey or the Leviathan outright (so they no longer skip Loki's trial or the Black Order's defeat); Take a Mind will not hold them ("That mind is too vast to hold"); the Soul Rip only tears at a boss's soul and can no longer pull it out; and Stop Time holds a boss for two seconds at most instead of up to fourteen. Bosses of other mods count too when they are in the c:bosses entity tag.
  • Rewrite Reality does not bend everything. Bosses, the story's people (Eitri, the Masters of Kamar-Taj, the Stonekeeper, the Vision, a Flora Colossus), villagers, anyone's pets, creatures with a name tag, creatures on a lead and minds someone holds are hurt instead of turned into a chicken, and you are told "Reality does not bend for" them. A creature that is rewritten now changes the way the game's own conversions do: what it picked up falls out, riders and effects carry over, and a frozen one is let go first.
  • Aimed powers reach as far as the world is loaded, and no further. The Wormhole, the Sling Ring, the Meteor Storm, Moonfall, Blink and every other aimed power used to make the server load, or even generate, chunks nobody was in. The Wormhole still reaches 350 blocks with a full gauntlet.
  • Powers that reshape the ground ask first. On a server, Rewrite Reality's warp of blocks, Cataclysm, the Mirror Dimension and the Scarlet Witch's telekinesis of blocks respect spawn protection, the world border, adventure mode and land-claim mods, the same as breaking a block by hand.
  • The Decimation dusts no more creatures than the world can remember for the Restore snap (4096). A creature that could never come back is spared.

Heroes and species

Added

  • Mjolnir and Stormbreaker fly where you look. In the air, press jump again and hold it: the weapon takes off along your look, slow at first and then fast, with a crackle of sparks, small bolts off the head and the rush of air. Sneak to brake and hang. You have about four and a half seconds of flight, refilled on the ground; let go or run out and it only breaks your fall. Holding jump from the ground is still just a jump.
  • Come to Me, a new ability for every Asgardian and anyone worthy: the nearest Mjolnir or Stormbreaker lying within 128 blocks flies back into your hand, striking whatever stands in its way (Stormbreaker brings its chain lightning). 12 seconds to come back.
  • Real lightning. Every Mjolnir and Stormbreaker strike, chain hop, sky strike, the Storm Burst and the star's bolt at Nidavellir are jagged, forked, flickering bolts (white-hot core, blue glow, a flare and sparks where they land) instead of a straight beam.
  • A move on the cast key for every species that had none (more than half of all first-join rolls had nothing on it):
    • Kree: Photon Blast. 7 damage up to 24 blocks away, and a splash on whatever is beside the target.
    • Frost Giant: Ice Lance. 8 damage, freezes the target through, and ices still water under its path.
    • Flora Colossus: Root Snare. Roots out of the ground where you look: 4 damage, and held for 4 seconds.
    • Machine: Solar Beam. A short charge, then 14 damage and fire through every creature on a 40-block line.
    • Celestial Hybrid: Celestial Light. Mends you and everything living within 6 blocks, clears poison and wither, and burns the undead.
  • Black Panther: Pounce. A leap of about twelve blocks, claws first: 8 damage and Slowness to everything within 3 blocks of where you land. With 20 or more charge in the Panther Habit, half of it goes out as a Kinetic Pulse with the landing.
  • Super Soldier: Shield Charge (with the Vibranium Shield in a hand): a dash behind the raised shield, 6 damage and a hard shove to everything in the way, and 4 more per blow while the shield has charge to spend.
  • God of Mischief: Illusion (a Frost Giant carrying the Casket of Ancient Winters): three doubles of you, and you are invisible for 4 seconds. Whatever hunted you hunts a double; a struck double shatters in green light; the doubles fade after 10 seconds. The first Frost Giant to do it becomes the God of Mischief, so the title can now be won in singleplayer.
  • Markings on the skin. Frost Giants have ridges and red Jotun eyes, Titans a grooved chin and a heavy brow, Gamma Mutants veins, the Kree Ronan's black paint, the Machine panel seams and a brow jewel, a Flora Colossus bark. They are drawn only over the bare skin of your own skin (hair, eyes and clothes stay yours), for wide and slim arms.
  • New gestures: Thunder Call (both arms flung to the sky, for Call Lightning and Storm Burst, with a flash on your screen) and Come to Me (arm out, hand open, braced for the catch).
  • New sounds for the hammer's flight and take-off, Come to Me, Photon Blast, Ice Lance, Root Snare, Solar Beam (it gathers for exactly the charge time) and Celestial Light.
  • Two Field Guide pages in Heroes: "Flight, and Come to Me" and "What Every Body Can Do".

Changed

  • Brains and Brawn has its reward. The merged Hulk who snaps the Nano Gauntlet survives as Banner did: it costs half your health and scorches the arm (Gauntlet Burn for two minutes) instead of leaving you on one heart. Destroy the Stones and Rebirth, and the Infinity Gauntlet, are unchanged. And controlled destruction: the merged Hulk's Thunderclap and Smash leave the walls standing and only wreck them while you sneak. The savage Hulk is as he was (wrecks unless you sneak).
  • The Black Panther no longer gives up the power by accident. Eating the Heart-Shaped Herb without sneaking is refused with a warning; sneak to eat it (the challenge ritual still works).
  • More gestures: the Kinetic Pulse drives a fist into the ground, throwing the Vibranium Shield has the throw gesture, Mind Warp puts fingers to the temple and Mind Control holds a hand out (they used to borrow the Telekinesis pose).
  • Storm Burst throws arcs off your body and a bolt into the first creature it takes.
  • The hammer's flying stance leans along the flight (upright going up, laid out flying level) and shows only while you are really being carried.
  • The descriptions of the species, the Black Panther, the Super Soldier, Mjolnir, Stormbreaker, Uru and the merged Hulk in the guide and the tooltips describe the new moves.

Suits: the nanotech suit and the Iron Spider

Added

  • The Nano Housing, made at the Fabricator (an Arc Reactor, six Gold-Titanium Ingots, two Vibranium Ingots, an Energy Cell and eight amethyst shards). Worn in the necklace slot, it carries a whole suit folded into nanites. Wear the Iron Man armour (or the Iron Spider), put the housing on with N and press N: the suit folds into the reactor on your chest. Press N again and it flows back out over you, head to feet, red-and-gold nanites sweeping up to the crown and down to the feet, with its own sound and a breath of blue across the eyes as the faceplate closes. Whatever you were wearing underneath is kept in the housing until the suit goes home, and every piece comes back exactly as it went in (modules, arc energy, enchantments, trims, wear). Sneak + N takes the housing off (the suit goes home first). A Curse of Binding stops the suit going on or off.
  • Nano Blade, Nano Shield, Nano Cannon: three new abilities for an Iron Man suit that came out of a housing. The Blade sweeps an arc in front of you (11 damage). The Shield is a hexagonal plate of nanites that stops everything from the front for 5 seconds. The Cannon gathers for half a second, then a heavy gold blast lands where you look (18 damage at the centre, half that at its edge 3 blocks out). They cost arc energy from the chestplate: 200, 600 and 1500.
  • The Iron Spider: four pieces made at the Fabricator, each from the matching Spider-Suit piece with Gold-Titanium, Vibranium and redstone (the chestplate also takes an Arc Reactor). As good as netherite, fire-proof, trimmable and enchantable, repaired with Gold-Titanium. It folds into a Nano Housing like the Iron Man armour.
  • Worn complete by someone with the spider's powers, the Iron Spider gives Speed and Jump Boost and two abilities: Waldo Arms (four gold arms strike out of your back, each at its own enemy within 6 blocks, 6 damage each; allies and villagers are spared) and Web Wings (in the air: glide where you look for up to 8 seconds, sinking slowly; sneak or land to fold them). The four arms are drawn on the worn suit, unfolding out of the back while they strike and while you crawl on a wall.
  • The Iron Man suit glows in the dark: the arc reactor, the eye slits, the palm repulsors and the boot thrusters shine at full brightness at night, on players and on armour stands. The Panther Habit's Vibranium lines glow purple.
  • Suit modules show on the worn suit: shoulder missile pods (Micro-Missile Pod), a second, brighter ring round the reactor and the palms (Repulsor Amplifier), a teal collar and seals (Environment Seal), red lenses at the temples and over the eyes (Targeting Scanner), glowing knee emitters (Energy Shield Emitter), gold servo rings at the knees and hips (Kinetic Servos), and boot fins with a lit thruster in each sole (Flight Stabilizer). Take a module out at the Fabricator and it is gone from the suit.
  • Field Guide entries "The Nano Housing" and "Blade, Shield, Cannon" (Stark Tech) and "The Iron Spider" (Heroes); two advancements, Bleeding Edge (call a suit out of a housing) and Smells Like a New Car (own all four Iron Spider pieces); six new sounds and five new ability icons.

Changed

  • The necklace key is now "Necklace / Nano Suit". It is still N. With a housing worn, N calls the suit and sneak + N is the necklace.

Bosses and their music

Added

  • Thanos waits on his throne. He does nothing until someone comes within thirteen blocks of him or strikes him. Then he rises (a low shot looking up at him, the boss bar comes up, "Dread it. Run from it. Destiny arrives all the same.") and two and a half seconds later the fight begins. After a fight nobody finished, he is back on his throne for whoever comes next.
  • Thanos uses the stones he still holds. From his second stage, if nobody in the world has the Reality Stone, every twenty seconds two mirages of him step out of the air over a red mandala, and half the time he trades places with one. Mirages swing but do no harm, shed red light, and burst at a touch. From his third stage, if the Time Stone is still his, the first time he drops below a fifth of his health he turns time back to the health he had six seconds before (at most 15% of his total), with a green flash, and is then spent for two seconds: he stands still, and a single blow can take twice as much out of him as usual.
  • Thanos' boss bar names his stage: "Thanos — The Gauntlet", then "Thanos — Inevitable" in red.
  • His fall is filmed: the last chord, the light of the six stones rising from where he fell, a slow turn round the place and the title "Whatever it takes". The stones are still yours at once.
  • Loki turns your own side against you. Every twenty seconds up to three of the pets and iron golems near you (your own pets, the ones up and about) go for you for six seconds, eyes glowing green, with a green tether from Loki to each. A pet told to sit does not hear him. They are themselves again when the time is up, when Loki is beaten, and when he leaves.
  • Loki's copies have a fair tell: now and then a copy sheds a mote of green light. The real Loki never does.
  • No more pillar, hole or fence cheese. A boss that has had no way to you for four seconds answers: Cull Obsidian hauls you down with his chain (or comes to you if he cannot see you), Ebony Maw drags you through the air to his feet, and Proxima Midnight, Corvus Glaive and Ultron are simply beside you in one bound. Thanos' step through space now reaches the top of a pillar, the bottom of a hole and the far side of a wall.
  • Blows are shown before they land. Cull's slam, Thanos' slam and the Frost Giant's slam draw a ring on the ground at the reach of the blow for exactly as long as the wind-up lasts; Corvus' lunge draws a pale line along its path first.
  • Boss themes. Four themes written and synthesised for this mod: The Mad Titan (Thanos: a slow march with drums, low brass and voices), Children of Thanos (the Black Order: a clockwork ostinato), God of Mischief (Loki: a harp waltz over a bass that keeps slipping down) and No Strings (Ultron: an out-of-tune music box over struck steel). While one of these bosses is fighting within 48 blocks of you, its theme takes over from the game's music at once and loops for as long as the fight lasts; it stops five seconds after the fight ends, and the game's own music comes back in its own time. It follows the Music slider and shows in the "Now playing" toast.
  • Stingers: drums, horns and voices when Thanos enters his second and third stages; a settling major chord with a bell when Thanos, any of the Black Order or Ultron falls (subtitles "The battle turns" and "A boss falls").
  • Bosses show their rage. Below their enrage threshold the Black Order, Thanos in his last stage and Ultron in his last third change look: Proxima's and Corvus' eyes burn like embers (Proxima's markings smoulder), Cull Obsidian's eyes go red and the old wound on his chest cracks open like cooling lava, Ebony Maw's needles light up white-gold and his eyes go pale, Ultron runs hot (an orange core, red seams opening across his chest), and Thanos' Gauntlet blazes, its stones haloed, while the Power Stone's violet light runs up his bare arm in forking veins. They also breathe harder.
  • Bosses die on one knee. Thanos, the four of the Black Order and Ultron no longer tip over sideways when they die: the legs fold, the body sinks, the head hangs and the weapon arm falls.

Changed

  • Cull Obsidian's slam has a real wind-up: the hammer goes up, the ring shows its reach, and the blow lands as the hammer comes down (it used to land eight ticks before the hammer did). The camera shakes when it lands.
  • Corvus Glaive draws the glaive back for a moment before he lunges, and leaves the ground as he leans into it.
  • The Black Order and Loki belong to their invasion. They come on the invasion's own clock (a server restart in the first minute no longer loses them), the invasion is not won while either stands or is still to come, and if it ends any other way (the holder dies or leaves, time runs out, it is called off) they withdraw with the soldiers. One that was out of loaded ground when its invasion ended leaves as soon as it wakes.
  • While one of the Black Order stands, the pair is the fight: their Chitauri come every 90 seconds instead of 50, and not early when the soldiers are cleared. Once both have fallen, the waves come as before.
  • Loki also comes with the Black Order, 90 seconds in, after both of Thanos' children, while the Mind Stone waits: losing to him once is no longer the end of the Mind Stone in a world that has moved on to the Black Order.
  • Thanos starts over after a lost fight: back at full health with nobody to fight, he returns to his first stage, with the Time Stone ready again.
  • The Field Guide pages on Thanos, the Black Order and Loki describe all of this.

Jotunheim, the frozen realm

Added

  • Jotunheim, the realm of the Frost Giants: a dimension of dark rock broken into crags, spires and chasms, buried in snow and sheathed in packed and blue ice, under a sky that never gets past dusk (the sun down, a pale crescent moon and stars up, low cold light, haze). Snow is always in the air, the wind always blows, and ice cracks far away. Frost Giants and Strays are at home there. No beds, no respawn anchors.
  • Laufey's hall: the ruined throne hall of the Frost Giants, raised the first time anyone arrives, on the most level high ground near the middle of the realm. A nave of dark stone between two rows of columns (some broken and lying in the snow), a frozen path of blue ice up to a dais and a throne of ice under a stepped gable, blue fire, two side chapels with a chest each, two pinnacles with ice needles at the gate, and a terrace with the Bifrost's mark where every traveller arrives.
  • Laufey, King of the Frost Giants: 320 health, a blue boss bar, and two of his giants beside him. He carries the Casket of Ancient Winters: a cone of winter shown before it comes (it hurts, freezes and slows almost to a stop), both arms brought down on whoever is close, and a freezing touch. Below half health he calls two more giants, and rings of frost open under his target and burst into ice spikes a moment later; climbing out of his reach does not help, the spikes follow. Cold cannot hurt him, fire hurts him double, and left alone he heals. The stones treat him as a boss. The first time he falls in a world, the Casket of Ancient Winters falls with him (the recipe stays). He takes his throne again twenty minutes after he falls.
  • The Jotun Waystone: four Jotun ice, four packed ice and an Eye of Ender. Use it to cross to Jotunheim, and use it there to come back to where you left. It is not used up; 20 seconds between crossings. Now and then one is in the hall's chests.
  • Stormbreaker opens the way too. Sneak and use it with the axe raised to the sky (looking up at least 60 degrees) and the Bifrost takes you to Jotunheim, with its rainbow pillar and its runic mark; do the same in Jotunheim to go home. Aimed anywhere lower, the Bifrost works as before.
  • A new Field Guide chapter, The Realms, with Jotunheim and Laufey's Hall, and three advancements: The Hidden Paths (a waystone), A Cold Welcome (reach Jotunheim) and Monsters of the Bedtime Stories (be there when Laufey falls).
  • Sounds: Jotunheim's wind, distant ice cracks and gusts, the Casket opening, ice spikes bursting, and the waystone's path opening.

Changed

  • Stormbreaker's tooltip mentions the Bifrost to Jotunheim.

The vaults

Added

  • The Hydra base has a gatehouse tower over its door carrying Hydra's skull and six tentacles in red on black, a lit road with lamp posts up to the gate, red stripes either side of the door and a radar on the roof. Behind the hall is a high iron chamber for the Tesseract with a sunken ring of blue light in its floor, rods of light round it and a shaft of light over the pedestal. The patrols have room to fight in it.
  • The temple on Morag is a ruined rotunda: eight pointed arches through a thick wall, broken buttresses, vines, a dome with a wide eye, and a processional way of fallen columns to its front arch. The four arches on its axes are trapped: a tripwire across the sill and a dispenser of arrows in the jamb.
  • Mount Wundagore is a real mountain: four terraces of grey rock (grass below, snow above) climbed by flights of steps cut into its cliffs, turning round it; on the summit a ring of eight black pillars with chaos lamps round a spire of weeping obsidian. The Darkhold's chamber is deep inside, at the foot, reached by a roofed passage lit with soul lanterns.
  • Vormir is a spire of black rock with a sheer drop on every side but one. A path winds up round it from a gateway of standing stones at its foot. On top, at the edge of the drop, stand the two pillars and the Soul Altar; behind the altar the rim is broken away (the place of the leap), and a ring of warm light is set into the top.
  • Each vault greets you. Walking into one for the first time names it on screen, with a line from the films, and grants a new advancement: Hail Hydra, Morag, a Planet, Where the Light Fails, The Mountain of the Witch, Welcome to Vormir, and the challenge Cartographer's Dream for all five.
  • Each vault sounds like a place: now and then a low sound of it plays (Hydra a machine hum, Morag deep water, Svartalfheim and Vormir the soul valley's mood, Wundagore the warped forest's dread), with a drift of ash, spores or souls.
  • Trial pedestals breathe with their trial: motes of the stone's colour while sealed, a red crackle during the fight, a turning spiral of light with a faint hum once open. The Soul Altar gives off souls and pale flames.
  • A party meets a bigger guard: each squad of a trial brings one more guardian for each player within 24 blocks beyond the first (three more at most), and never more than 16 guardians at once.

Changed

  • Vaults are planned on the land. The site is surveyed first and ground that is too rough is turned down; the front (door, stair foot, gate) faces the lowest side instead of a random way; and the floor sits where the ground in front of the door is. The land is shaped to meet the Hydra base, the temple on Morag and the Svartalfheim ruin, as it is for villages; the mountain and the spire rise from the land as it is.
  • No vault generates within four chunks of a village.
  • The Field Guide pages on the Hydra base, Morag, Vormir and the Darkhold describe the new buildings, and the vault pages of the Trials chapter open when you find the vault, not only once you have won its stone.
  • A vault already begun in a world made before 3.0 is finished as it was begun. Only vaults in newly generated chunks are the new ones.

Titan

Added

  • A ruined city round Thanos' arena: ten pale towers broken off at a slant (two great ones, two fallen to stumps with their rubble round them), floors fallen through, windows on every storey, three skybridges that no longer reach across, and pieces of a moon hanging over it all, still glowing underneath. Four of the towers still hold a chest (gold, experience, Chitauri energy cells, amethyst, now and then netherite scrap or a Warding Sigil). An arena that already stands in your world gets its city on the next visit.
  • Titan sounds like a place: a wind that never stops over the ruins, stone settling somewhere, and its own music, a slow lament with a bell. Ash drifts in the air and the fog is rust.
  • The arrival is filmed: a wide of the burnt world from high behind the gold ring, the title "Titan" and "It was beautiful once.", then a slow push in on the throne, and him on it: "He has been waiting for you." Nothing can hurt you while it plays. Backspace skips it; with saga.cutscenes off the camera stays yours and the lines are still said.
  • You are told what you are walking into. Once the arrival is over you are told how he is fought and, if you carry stones, exactly what they cost you here ("Each one takes 9% from every blow you strike him: yours land 27% lighter").

Changed

  • Titan's ground is its own burnt-orange rock: clay strata all the way down, drifts of red sand and red sandstone on top, baked clay and scorch marks between. Only newly generated Titan chunks; the arena floor is unchanged.

Earth: the crater and the landmarks

Changed

  • The Vibranium crater reads as an impact from far off: a wider bowl with a flat floor round the core, a rim of thrown-up ground one to three blocks high with two or three gaps where the blast broke through, an apron of scorched ground fading into the grass, the trees round it stripped and charred, amethyst on the inner slope, and a signal fire smouldering on the floor whose smoke can be seen from a distance. The core, the ore and the herbs are where they always were.
  • The Vibranium Meteorite Core glows: pale motes rise off it, light falls into it, and now and then a spark pops.
  • Kamar-Taj and Nidavellir choose dry, level land near the place the world gives them: not the sea, a beach, a river or a mountain, and for the forge not a jungle, and at least 250 blocks apart. Only in worlds where the place has not been chosen yet: an existing world keeps its landmarks where they are.

Interface and controls

Added

  • Next Stone (Y). Turns the gauntlet in your hand to the next socketed stone without opening the wheel, so running and fighting go on; sneak + Y goes back. Each stone has its own note when it is chosen, and players near you hear it too.
  • The mouse wheel walks round every radial wheel, one option a notch.
  • Interface sounds: the wheel opening, a glass tick (higher the further round) as the choice moves, a confirm, a note per stone, a quiet knock when a press does nothing, and the Field Guide's own opening sound (leather, a riffle of pages).
  • A chime when a power is ready again (the stone in your hand or the gauntlet's chosen stone, and the ability on your cast key). The Special's chime is deeper, and the stone's socket blooms for a moment. Waits under two seconds end silently.
  • A press that did nothing says so. A stone power or an ability pressed while it is coming back says, for example, "Blink: ready again in 3 s" with a soft knock. Blink with nowhere safe to land, a Wormhole aimed too close and Rewrite Reality aimed at nothing say why.
  • The Time Stone's loop shows its wait: a thin green line under the Time socket fills back up.
  • Every ability has an icon of its own (they used to be a cobweb, a bell, an anvil, a lead, an armour stand...), on the ability wheel and on the HUD, where the ready ability now sits in a socket that darkens from the top while it comes back. The gauntlet panel shows "[R] choose [Y] next stone" when two or more stones are socketed.
  • A new Field Guide: a leather-bound book with gold corners set with stones, parchment pages, a ribbon and pressed recipe squares. It has a search box (Ctrl+F or /; every word must match, accents and case are ignored, Enter opens the best match); Up/Down walk the entries and Page Up/Down, Home, End scroll the page; both scroll bars can be dragged; and each chapter shows how many of its advancements you have (for example 3/6).
  • /infinity help [page] comes in pages of ten with a link to the next. What a player can use comes first, and operator commands are only shown to operators.
  • Tooltips on plain materials saying what they are for: the Chitauri Energy Cell, Leviathan Plate, Outrider Claw, Sentry Core, Hydra Insignia, Jotun Ice, raw and ingot Uru and Vibranium, and the Vibranium Nugget.
  • The game's accessibility options are honoured. The Distortion Effects slider scales every screen shake and full-screen flash of the mod and stills its throbbing overlays (spider-sense, rampage, the Aether) below one half. Hide Lightning Flashes caps the mod's flashes (a snap no longer whites out the screen).
  • Settings of your own, in config/infinitystones-client.json (written on first start, never sent to a server): hud_opacity (0.2 to 1: how dark the stone panel's backing is), ready_chime and ui_sounds (true or false).

Changed

  • Skip Cutscene moved from K to Backspace. In 2.13.0 it shared K with the Kinetic Pulse, so skipping the forge scene also let go of a Panther's whole charge. If your Skip is still on K together with the Kinetic Pulse, it is moved to Backspace once, the first time you start the game; a key you chose yourself is kept.
  • Four blurry status-effect icons are drawn crisp: Gauntlet Burn (a charred hand with embers), Aether Infection (a red three-armed vortex), Time Stasis (a stopped green clock) and Soul Sight (a soul's flame).
  • "You have nothing to cast" no longer lists heroes by name (it had left out the God of Thunder).
  • Brazilian Portuguese: "Sorcerer" is always "mago" (as in Mago Supremo), the Casket is always "Cofre dos Invernos Ancestrais", and /infinity locate's "nothing in reach" reads naturally.

Progression

Added

  • /infinity next names the first step of the saga you have not taken yet (sixteen steps, from the first map to the snap) and how many you have taken. Open to every player.
  • Scouts. A world that is only Watched now sends a scouting party, two Chitauri dropped from a ship nobody sees and an Outrider, about six minutes after Threat reaches Watched. One wave, no portal. Beating them takes no Threat off (they were only looking) and buys eight minutes of quiet. /infinity threat invade scout calls them at once.
  • A beaten invasion pays. Whoever it came for is handed its spoils and a burst of experience: scouts, a Chitauri cell or two and some iron (30 XP); an Outrider hunt, two to four Raw Uru and a claw or two (100 XP); a Chitauri portal, four to eight energy cells, a diamond or two and, two times in three, Gold-Titanium (300 XP); the Black Order, two to four Uru Ingots, a netherite scrap and two or three diamonds (600 XP).
  • The Signal Flare: four Chitauri Energy Cells, an Outrider Claw, an Eye of Ender and a block of redstone, in any order. Lit under an open sky it calls a Chitauri invasion (the portal, three waves, the Leviathan, and Loki while the Mind Stone waits) on whoever lit it, stones or no stones. Lit, it is used up, and you wait five minutes before you can light another. On Peaceful, while an invasion is coming and in the quiet after one, it refuses and you keep it.
  • The Masters of Kamar-Taj sell a map to every vault (Hydra base 12 emeralds, Morag 14, Svartalfheim 14, Wundagore 18, Vormir 20; two of each per Master), and always show all twelve of their trades.
  • Vault chests lead on: half the time a vault's chests hold the map to the next vault of the road (Hydra base, Morag, Svartalfheim, Vormir, Wundagore, and round again), besides the map they could already hold.
  • New advancements: I Understood That Reference (Captain America's uniform), Your Friendly Neighbourhood (the Spider-Suit), At Your Service (J.A.R.V.I.S. says hello), A Smith for Hire (hire Eitri or a wild Flora Colossus) and I'm Mary Poppins, Y'all! (the Yaka Arrow strikes three enemies with one whistle).
  • The big advancements pay experience: your first stone 50, each trial 150, the Time and Soul Stones 250, Loki, the Leviathan, your first invasion and reaching Titan 100, a Black Order member 300 and all four 500, all six stones 500, a full gauntlet 500, Ultron 300, Thanos 1000 and the snap 1000.
  • Field Guide: "The Road to Thanos" (Start Here) and "The Signal Flare" (Creatures). Five entries that never showed a tick now do: What You Are, Suits, J.A.R.V.I.S., The Scarlet Witch, and Outriders and Sentries.

Changed

  • Your first join. The Field Guide is put in your hand, a gold line in chat says what it is and that /infinity next exists, and the Infinity Stones advancement tree shows its toast. The line at every login points at the Field Guide and /infinity next instead of the long /infinity help.
  • "Your First Hours" is a route now: where the keys are, that stones are earned in vaults, where the maps come from (a cartographer, smith or wandering trader, then Kamar-Taj and its Masters; chests in villages, shipwrecks, camps and mansions), start with the Hydra base, and Uru, Vibranium, Stark tech and Banner's projector along the way.
  • Threat follows the saga's order. A world that has never closed a Chitauri portal gets the Chitauri, not the Black Order, at the top tier. Before, anyone carrying three or more stones skipped the Chitauri (and Loki, the only way to the Mind Stone besides Thanos) after the first event, and met the Black Order every twenty minutes for ever.
  • Beating an invasion takes more Threat off (an Outrider hunt 25 instead of 18, a Chitauri portal 40 instead of 30, the Black Order 60 instead of 40), and a beaten Black Order is followed by twenty minutes of quiet instead of twelve.
  • The forge for anyone clad in Uru. Anyone wearing all four pieces of Asgardian armour may hold the iris of Nidavellir, as an Asgardian may, and forge Stormbreaker; Mjolnir is made only for a hand worthy of it, and Eitri says so. The star still takes all but your last heart, and only the weapon saves you. Eitri's advice, the refusal and the guide say so. Before, Mjolnir, Stormbreaker and the God of Thunder were closed to everyone not born Asgardian until the snap.
  • Six suit modules need a trophy: the Repulsor Amplifier two Chitauri Energy Cells, the Micro-Missile Pod two Hydra Insignia, the Targeting Scanner a Sentry Core, the Kinetic Servos two Outrider Claws, the Environment Seal two Jotun Ice and the Energy Shield Emitter a Leviathan Plate. Energy and time are unchanged.

Art and sound

Changed

  • Thanos looks like Thanos: a Titan's head (a heavy brow, a nose, a ridged chin, ears, pale blue eyes that do not glow, lines on the forehead and cheeks), ridged pauldrons and belt flaps, and a double-edged sword built like its item: stepped, tapering blades with a fuller, a dark grip, gold guards and ferrules.
  • The Vision's whole head is red (it was a grey helmet with a red face), with fine darker seams, a silver brow line, and the Mind Stone a cut gem in a setting.
  • The Black Order look like themselves: Proxima Midnight's hair and horns sweep back; Ebony Maw is bald and gaunt with a long skull, deep small eyes and hollow cheeks; Corvus Glaive has a pale, narrow, gaunt face and long white hair swept back.
  • Footsteps and slams you can hear. The heavy footsteps (Thanos, Cull Obsidian, the Frost Giant, Ultron, Hydra, Loki, the Black Order, Chitauri soldiers) and the slams of Thanos, Cull Obsidian and the Frost Giant were almost all deep bass and nearly silent on laptop speakers and most headphones. They now have a knock and a thud you can hear and a click for each step; a crack, a burst of debris and rubble settling for the slams, and ice shattering for the Frost Giant's.
  • 26 sounds that borrowed the game's own now have voices of their own: Mjolnir and Stormbreaker's throw, hit, ground strike and return; the Bifrost; the Hulk's roar, Thunderclap and landing; the web shot and the spider-sense; a hero's awakening; the Iron Man suit charging; the Shield of the Seraphim and its deflection, the Eldritch Whip, the Crimson Bands, the Seven Suns and the sorcerer's oath; the Gamma Projector's charge, ready, switching on and off, hum and fault; putting on a relic; and the Cloak of Levitation choosing. (The Bifrost, the oath and the projector were all the same beacon sound.)
  • Spawn eggs are painted like the game's own: three tones of shell lit from the top left, a rim of light, an outline in the shell's darkest hue, and the second colour laid out as the creature's pattern (Thanos' gold collar, Corvus' white hair, a Flerken's tabby stripes, Groot's bark) instead of random speckles. No more near-black shells: the Black Order, the Stonekeeper, the Hydra captain and the Dark Elf can be told apart at a glance.
  • New icons for Mjolnir, Stormbreaker and Cull Obsidian's hammer, drawn from the same shapes as their 3D models. Mjolnir is a square-headed Uru hammer with stepped striking faces, the knot panel, a banded leather grip, a steel pommel and the wrist strap (it no longer reads as a cleaver); Stormbreaker has its broad notched blade with the lightning rune glowing blue, a riveted hammer back and Groot's arm for a haft.
  • The Uru Ingot is ingot-shaped like every other ingot (it was a thin pale bar at half the size): steel-blue, with three runes glowing in its face.
  • The Book of the Vishanti is an upright tome: bronze-brown leather in a gold border with corner caps, the three-ring seal of the Vishanti on the cover with a blue-white light at its heart, a banded spine and the page edges.
  • The Scepter's glow is its gem's blue (it was a murky yellow smudge).
  • Long weapons are held as long weapons. The Glaive of Corvus, Proxima's Spear and the Scepter are larger in hand and held further down the haft, so they stand out past the hand like the reach they have.
  • The Fabricator and Charging Station screens are Stark tech instead of the furnace's grey: brushed steel, Stark red and gold under the top edge, rivets, a faint arc-reactor ring behind the machine, hazard tape along the bottom, reactor-cyan rims round the output, the charging pad and the gauges. Everything is where it was.
  • Fourteen glowing textures move: the running Arc Reactor Core breathes, the open trial pedestals send rings of light outward, the Gamma Projector's lens and a charging Charging Station pulse, the Soul Altar's fire flickers, heat drifts across the forge's glow and molten metal, the Experiment Plate ripples, and the Tesseract, the open Eye of Agamotto and the Arc Reactor breathe in the inventory.

Fixed

  • The gauntlet in first person showed its leather palm, so with six stones socketed none was visible. It now shows the back of the hand with the stones facing you, bigger, standing proud of the plate and glowing (full light even in a cave). The same for the Nano Gauntlet.
  • Beams left from the right shoulder whatever hand held the stone. They now leave from the hand that holds it (the left for left-handed players, or when only the off hand holds it).
  • Moonfall could drop moon on the one who called it. No piece of moon is now aimed within nine blocks of the caster.
  • Blinking into the open sky no longer kills you: Slow Falling now lasts until you reach the ground (up to 20 seconds), not a fixed two and a half seconds that ran out some ninety blocks up.
  • A creature frozen by the Time Stone (or turning to dust) no longer floats forever if the world was saved or its chunk unloaded during the stasis.
  • A player held by Take a Mind or the Scarlet Witch's Mind Control is free again when the hold wears off. Before, they stayed the caster's thrall for good, with blue sparks over their head and immune to the caster's powers.
  • The Restore snap no longer loses creatures when the world is closed during its eight seconds: each one stays in the world's record until it is actually back.
  • The Mirror Dimension's glass and Spider webs are taken away even if the world was closed or the place unloaded before their time was up.
  • Rewinding an explosion with the Time Stone no longer brings back chests, barrels, furnaces or shulker boxes empty, and no longer swallows a dropped shulker box with everything in it: containers are simply left out of the rewind.
  • A fallen stone removed by /kill or by a newer copy of its stone no longer leaves its invisible light behind.
  • Logging out and back in no longer resets the snap's one-minute wait.
  • Mjolnir and Stormbreaker come back to the hand that threw them (the same hotbar slot, or the off hand), not to the first free slot.
  • A hammer in flight when its wielder dies, if the wielder then leaves the game from the death screen, now falls where it hung and never despawns, instead of vanishing with the dead player's pockets.
  • The God of Thunder is no longer burnt by lightning: lightning of any kind charges him (Strength and Regeneration, as the full Asgardian armour does). Whoever calls lightning with Mjolnir is not hurt by that strike, nor are their pets and the villagers beside it.
  • The hammer's flight was a trick of Levitation and Speed that rose straight up at a fixed speed, never ran out and started on any held jump. A dropped or left-behind thunder weapon could not be called back. Thor's lightning was drawn exactly like a repulsor beam.
  • Dying on Titan no longer strands you. The Titan Beacon you dropped is taken from beside your body and put back in your hands when you respawn ("The Titan Beacon found its own way home"), and everything else you dropped there never despawns, so a second attempt can win it back. A beacon left lying on Titan whose owner has died or gone elsewhere is sent to them the same way.
  • The Titan Beacon is a relic like Mjolnir or the Eye: dropped anywhere it never despawns, cannot be destroyed, is not picked up by mobs and comes back from the void. It is no longer a free escape mid-fight: for five seconds after Thanos or one of his Outriders has struck you it will not answer ("He will not let you leave").
  • A Black Order invasion could be declared beaten while Cull Obsidian or Proxima Midnight still stood, and the pair then never left, keeping that member out of every later Black Order invasion.
  • Vault entrances could face a hillside and be buried: the door faced a random way and the floor sat at the lowest ground under the building.
  • Two chests of the same vault could hold identical loot. Every chest now has its own.
  • Morag's flood filled the whole square round the pedestal, so water hung in mid-air outside the round temple's corners. It now spreads only through the temple, and out of its arches, where it drains as water does.
  • Titan's ground was all end stone under a rust sky, and Titan was silent: no music, no ambience.
  • Kamar-Taj or the forge could be raised on stone stilts over open sea, or notched into a mountainside.
  • A lost stone is no longer lost for good in a world without meteors. A taken vault pedestal wakes again (the same waves, the same answer) once its stone has left the world and is free to return: into the void, by /clear, or by Destroy the Stones after its wait. While the stone exists anywhere, the pedestal stays empty.
  • An Infinity Stone and All Six count a stone earned in its vessel (from a vault, the Bargain, Loki, Vormir or Thanos), not only a bare stone in the inventory.
  • The guide said stones arrive as meteors; new worlds have had meteors off since 2.10. It now says they are earned in the trials, and fall only with /infinity meteors on. Its Threat page explains all four tiers, the scouts, the saga's order and the spoils; Titan says where a Leviathan comes from; Thanos says that each stone you carry makes your blows count less. The vault-map advancement no longer says the map must be bought from an expert cartographer.
  • One press did two things: Skip Cutscene and the Kinetic Pulse were both on K (see Interface and controls).
  • Clicking a crowded radial wheel picked with the wrong radius.
  • The Scepter's icon had a translucent yellow smear between its blades.
  • Lighter on the server. The Time Stone's rewind takes what it restores out of its history in one pass and looks for dropped items only where a block was really broken; the Arc Reactor Core no longer wakes comparators every tick while it runs; and a forging left waiting for its handle no longer keeps the forge's chunk loaded after everyone has gone.
  • Laufey no longer attacks the moment you arrive on the Bifrost's mark. He notices you once you walk up to his gate, and loses you if you go back or out of his sight. A Laufey summoned by a command or a spawn egg no longer uses up the world's Casket of Ancient Winters or keeps the real king off his throne, a second Laufey can no longer appear while the first rests in an unloaded chunk, and he no longer brings two more guards every time he comes back: only a post whose guard has fallen is filled again.
  • Titan's ruined city is careful with old worlds. In a world from before 3.0 it is built round the arena once, only on air and Titan's own rock, so nothing players built there is overwritten; digging out the block under the arena no longer raises it again or refills its chests.
  • Using the Titan Beacon again no longer makes a second Thanos when his arena had been unloaded: the one already there is found and seated. He takes his throne again whole, at his first stage, when a new challenger comes, and the arrival no longer says he has been waiting for you when he is dead or already fighting. The arrival's shelter ends as soon as you walk away or strike, also after skipping the scene.
  • Vaults built beside the sea, a river or a swamp no longer face the water or sit with their floor and door under its surface. In worlds made before 3.0, unfinished vaults no longer carve lava pockets near the bottom of the world or leave steps in the land round them.
  • Pets and iron golems that Loki turned against you go back to normal when Loki unloads or leaves the dimension mid-fight.
  • Loki arrives with the Black Order even if the world restarts first, and the invasion stays open until he has come.
  • Nano Blade, Nano Cannon and Waldo Arms no longer knock other players about on servers with PvP off, and the Iron Spider's Waldo Arms strike enemies, not farm animals, village golems or zombified piglins nobody has angered.
  • As the Black Panther, right-clicking a block with the Heart-Shaped Herb no longer eats it by accident and strips the mantle (sneak to eat it on purpose).
  • Lightning called with Mjolnir no longer hurts or burns its caller and their pets on a late flash.
  • The Destroy snap no longer turns the screen white for players with Hide Lightning Flashes on or Distortion Effects turned down, and the camera kicks of the powers follow the FOV Effects and Distortion Effects sliders.
  • Falling while holding Mjolnir or Stormbreaker no longer puts you in the hammer-flight pose.
  • A falling piece of the moon could be knocked off course by the blast of another landing nearby.
  • Deaths from Photon Blast, Ice Lance, Root Snare, Solar Beam, Celestial Light, the panther's claws and Shield Charge now name the player who did it.
  • Texts that said the wrong thing: /infinity next, the First Hour page and the Kamar-Taj map advancement no longer send you to a smith (only cartographers and wandering traders sell that map); the Suit Modules page says the Flight Stabilizer needs no trophy and the Targeting Scanner takes a Sentry Core; the Thanos page describes his spent moment correctly and warns about the moonfall and the Outriders at two thirds of his health; the guide gives the right command for becoming worthy (/infinity worthy @s); the trophies' tooltips (Jotun Ice, Chitauri Energy Cell, Outrider Claw, Hydra Insignia, Sentry Core, Leviathan Plate) list the Signal Flare, Jotun Waystone and suit modules made from them; and the Brazilian Portuguese Signal Flare texts use the feminine.
