Losing a netherite sword to a misclick mid-fight is infuriating, and it happens more than you'd like to admit — Q sits right under your ring finger while your hands are busy fighting.
Hotbar Guard blocks accidental item drops and makes you confirm them.
- Press Q → the drop is cancelled. Nothing is thrown.
- Press Q again within 3 seconds → it drops.
- Don't press again → it stays in your inventory. That's it.
A countdown and draining bar show exactly how long you've got, so you know when the window is closing.
What it protects
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Q — drop one item | ⛔ Confirmed |
| Ctrl+Q — drop whole stack | ⛔ Confirmed |
| Shift-click — quick-move in chests/furnaces | ⛔ Confirmed |
Covers the accidental stack dump too, not just single items.
Clean, unobtrusive UI
The prompt sits in the bottom-right corner — out of your crosshair, away from the hotbar. Full dark panel with the item name, a live countdown, and a progress bar that drains as the window closes. It never covers what you're aiming at.
It also appears correctly inside container screens, so shift-click protection shows its countdown where it happens.
Configurable
Everything is tunable in
config/hotbar-guard.json — no code editing needed:- Enable/disable the guard entirely
- Confirmation window — any length from 0.5s to 10s
- What gets protected:
ALL— guard everything (default)NONE— guard nothingLISTED— guard only the items you name, so you can throw dirt freely but your sword still asks first
- Toggle the overlay on or off
- Toggle shift-click protection separately, if it ever gets in the way
Your existing config file is never overwritten — it just fills in any new settings.
