Hollow Visitor
You are not alone. And whatever is watching you is learning.
Hollow Visitor is a psychological horror creature mod for Minecraft Forge 1.20.1 built around a predator that does more than simply chase the player.
At first, you may only notice something strange.
A sound where nothing should be.
A figure watching from the darkness.
A pair of eyes that refuses to disappear when the rest of the creature blends into the night.
Then it starts getting closer.
A Predator, Not Just Another Mob
The Hollow Visitor observes, stalks and eventually hunts its target.
Its behavior can escalate from distant observation to active pursuit, switching between an unnatural upright posture and an aggressive quadrupedal form designed for speed and close-range attacks.
When the hunt begins, the creature does not simply run toward you.
It can pursue, reposition itself, leap toward its prey, grab at the player and transition between different movement states depending on the situation.
Psychological Horror
The Hollow Visitor is designed to make the world itself feel less trustworthy.
Depending on its activity, you may experience:
-
Strange sounds and false audio cues.
-
Temporary manifestations.
-
Environmental disturbances.
-
False appearances of the creature.
-
Changes around doors, trapdoors and other parts of the environment.
-
Temporary changes to lighting.
-
Increasing visual pressure while the creature has you in its sights.
When the Hollow Visitor locks onto you, your peripheral vision begins to darken and your field of view changes as the pressure of the chase increases.
The effect remains while you are actively being hunted.
Adaptive Behavior
The creature keeps track of different aspects of the player's behavior and uses an internal awareness and dread system.
It can react to factors such as darkness, player behavior, nearby safe areas and previous encounters.
The intention is to make repeated encounters feel less like fighting a normal Minecraft mob and more like dealing with something that has been watching how you play.
Two Forms of Locomotion
The Hollow Visitor has a fully articulated custom model and can move in two very different ways.
Bipedal form
Slow, unnatural and threatening. Used while observing, approaching and performing certain attacks.
Quadrupedal form
A much more aggressive predatory stance. The creature lowers its body, uses its elongated arms for locomotion and can pursue the player with a custom four-limbed running cycle.
Its quadrupedal movement was built specifically for the creature rather than using a standard Minecraft animal animation.
Custom Animations
Hollow Visitor includes custom animations for:
-
Idle behavior
-
Walking and running
-
Stalking
-
Quadrupedal walking
-
Quadrupedal running
-
Transformation into and out of the quadrupedal stance
-
Pouncing
-
Grab attacks
-
Body spasms
-
Jaw movement
-
Manifestation and disappearance
-
Bipedal jumpscare
-
Quadrupedal jumpscare
-
And additional behavioral transitions
Custom Sound Design
The creature uses a custom sound set built from layered and processed recordings.
Its audio includes breathing, bone and rib movement, footsteps, quadrupedal impacts, growls, chase vocalizations, attacks, pounces, jumpscares and other anatomical sounds.
The goal is for the Hollow Visitor to sound like a physical creature moving through the world rather than a collection of standard Minecraft effects.
Eyes in the Dark
The Hollow Visitor's eyes use an emissive layer.
Even when the rest of its body disappears into darkness, its eyes can remain visible.
Sometimes that may be the first indication that something is already watching you.
Survival Matters
The Hollow Visitor targets survival players.
Creative and Spectator players are ignored as prey, allowing creators and modpack developers to observe or test the creature without immediately entering combat.
The creature also has specific behavior for water and will attempt to recover its pursuit rather than blindly continuing its terrestrial quadrupedal navigation.
