When you gain XP you gain hearts, but this mod makes it configurable.
DEFAULT GAMERULES:
healthOnSpawn: 0 - amount of health the player starts with, being 0 means you need to gain extra levels at the start, but guarantees that your health is perfectly synced with your level.
levelsPerHeart: 2 - amount of levels needed per heart, if set to 2 for example you need to gain 1 level per half heart.
loseXpOnHurt: false - if you have 10 hearts and lose a heart you will now only have 9 hearts from your loss of xp.
maxHealth: inf - the maximum amount of health a player can gain, XP is still obtainable it just wont sync with your health.
