GroundZero Skills — Character Progression & Specialization

GroundZero Skills is a configurable RPG progression mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge, featuring character leveling, branching skill trees, specialized abilities, crafting restrictions, and medical gameplay.

Develop your character by earning XP through survival activities, unlocking new skills, and specializing in different professions. Server owners can customize progression, skill costs, rewards, prerequisites, and gameplay restrictions through JSON configuration files.

These integrations allow GroundZero Skills to interact with additional crafting systems, equipment, medical mechanics, vehicles, and other modded gameplay features.

Not every integration is required. However, some included skill trees reference content from these mods, so installing the relevant mods is recommended when using those trees.

Server Setup

Install GroundZero Skills on both the server and connecting clients.

The following configuration files are automatically generated on first launch:

Progression and balancing:

config/groundzero-skills/progression/balance.json

Configure XP scaling, maximum character level, skill point rewards, activity XP, cooldowns, and respec settings.

Skill trees and unlocks:

config/groundzero-skills/skills/trees.json

Customize skill nodes, required levels, point costs, prerequisites, effects, recipes, and item restrictions.

Use /gzskills admin reload to reload your configuration changes.

Singleplayer

GroundZero Skills also supports singleplayer Forge worlds. Install the mod, launch Minecraft, and create a world.

The configuration files are generated automatically, and progression is managed locally through Minecraft's integrated server.

Optional integrations work when their corresponding mods are installed.

Development Status

GroundZero Skills is actively developed and tested on the GroundZero survival server. Balancing, compatibility, and features may change during development.

The mod is designed to provide flexible RPG progression for both standalone modded worlds and larger multiplayer survival communities.
