Gravity Mod
A realistic cave-in, support, stress, and earthquake physics mod for Minecraft Forge 1.20.1.
Gravity Mod transforms the world into a dynamic environment where caves weaken over time, unsupported structures can fail, earthquakes shake the land, and every block has physical stability properties that determine how safely it can exist.
Built to feel immersive, configurable, and compatible with large modpacks.
Main Features
Dynamic Structural Physics
- Unsupported blocks can collapse naturally.
- Floating structures become unstable over time.
- Cave ceilings can weaken and cave in.
- Surface terrain can erode and fail under stress.
- Stress spreads through nearby blocks during collapses.
Per-Block Stress System (v1.00.0)
Every block now has its own:
- support range
- stress capacity
- collapse threshold
This includes:
- vanilla blocks
- modded building blocks
- terrain blocks
- decorative blocks
The system can also be disabled to use an older material-based behavior.
Earthquakes
Natural Earthquake Events
- Random earthquakes can occur naturally.
- Quakes vary in:
- strength
- duration
- collapse intensity
- Stress and cave-ins increase temporarily during earthquakes.
Dimension-Specific Behavior
Overworld
- Larger and more destructive earthquakes.
- Longer-lasting seismic events.
- Major cave collapses possible underground.
Nether
- Frequent but weaker earthquakes.
- Shorter quake duration.
- Reduced collapse damage.
- Nether mobs ignore Nether earthquakes.
End
- Gravity Mod mechanics are disabled entirely in The End.
Stress & Weakening System
Blocks slowly accumulate stress from:
- unsupported weight
- nearby collapses
- earthquakes
- environmental weakening
- repeated structural strain
Structures become less stable over time instead of instantly collapsing.
Inspection & Analysis Tools (Currently in Progress)
Stress Profile Inspector
Inspect any block to view:
- support range
- stress thresholds
- current stress
- collapse risk
- stability state
- compatibility protection status
Includes a dedicated in-game UI.
Stability Scanner
Scan nearby structures and visualize instability using colored overlays:
- Green → stable
- Yellow → stressed
- Orange → unstable
- Red → near collapse
Useful for identifying dangerous structures before they fail.
Mob Reactions
Many mobs react dynamically to earthquakes:
- Villagers panic and flee.
- Human-like mobs visibly react to danger.
- Nearby creatures scatter during strong seismic activity.
Mod Compatibility
Designed for large Forge modpacks.
Compatible with many popular mods and modded blocks, including:
- Create
- Valkyrien Skies
- Clockwork
- Eureka
- MineColonies
- Dynamic Trees
- Tinkers’ Construct
- and many more
Configurable
Almost every system can be customized:
- collapse chance
- support range
- stress buildup
- earthquake frequency
- earthquake strength
- cave-in intensity
- mob reactions
- performance behavior
- visual effects
- per-block profile scaling
Performance Focused
Gravity Mod includes multiple optimization systems to reduce lag:
- queued collapse processing
- underground activity limiting
- surface-aware collapse throttling
- stress batching
- configurable collapse limits
Designed to remain usable even in large worlds and modpacks.
Intended Experience
Gravity Mod is designed to make Minecraft feel:
- heavier
- more dangerous
- more immersive
- more alive
Massive caves become risky.
Mining carelessly has consequences.
Earthquakes create tension.
Large unsupported builds require planning.
The world is no longer perfectly stable.
