Hemp is one of the oldest crops people grow, and most of what it was grown for was rope, cloth, food and building material. Hempdustry 2 puts that into Minecraft the way vanilla would: a crop with two varieties, a building set, a cloth chain that can replace leather and wool, and a small kitchen industry built on two machines.
It is a complete rewrite, in Java, for Fabric. Version 2.0.2 is the first stable release.
The plant
Two varieties, PpK and LHz, which differ in shape and in what they give you. PpK is short and leafy, two blocks tall. LHz grows three blocks tall, takes longer, needs headroom, and pays out in stems where PpK pays out in leaves.

Both grow wild, and both are rare. PpK turns up in jungles, swamps and on the moss of lush caves. LHz grows in savannas and thins out toward the badlands. Seeds also drop from tall grass and sit in a few exploration chests, so you can stumble into the mod without looking for it. Shears or Silk Touch lift a wild plant intact for a flower pot.
A growing plant can be trimmed with shears twice, in two windows during its life. Each cut hands you a hemp leaf on the spot and moves that plant's harvest one step from leaves toward flowers. Ignoring it is a perfectly good way to play.
When a plant is ripe, faint wisps curl off the top, so you can spot a finished field from across the farm. Bees pollinate hemp, parrots and chickens eat the seeds, and goats eat the leaves.

Building
Hempcrete, plus a powder form that sets on contact with water like concrete. Hemp bricks. A full hemp plank set: stairs, slabs, doors, trapdoors, fences, signs, hanging signs and boats, with or without a chest. Like crimson and warped, hemp planks don't burn.

Two storage blocks round it out, the hemp bale and the Block of Hemp Leaves. Both compost.

Cloth
Stems become fibre, fibre becomes canvas, canvas becomes hemp wool, and wool becomes carpet. Every step can be undone. A water cauldron rets stems into fibre at a better rate than the crafting grid.

Canvas works where vanilla uses leather, and hemp wool works where it uses wool. That puts books, item frames, paintings and a bed within reach without a cow or a sheep. The carpet goes on a llama like any other.
There is an outfit too: a beanie, a shirt, harem pants and flip-flops. It is not good armour. It does take enchantments and trims.

The kitchen
The mod's industry is a three-step chain, and you can watch each step happen.

The Decarboxylator is a hemp-brick oven with three trays, each on its own timer. It is expensive on purpose, because it is meant to be a goal rather than a first-day build.
A water cauldron rinses what comes out of the oven. The rinse is optional, but it decides how good the final batch can get.
The Infuser is a hempcrete tub built around a cauldron. It has no fuel slot and takes its heat from whatever is underneath it. A campfire is cheap and always lit, and lava or a lava cauldron lasts forever. A furnace only works while it is busy smelting something. Pour milk in by hand, the way water goes into a cauldron, or let a dispenser do it. Each batch is graded on two separate axes, strength and quality. When a batch peaks, the tub pours it into a chest through a spout you can see.
What comes out is infused butter, which goes into a handful of baked goods.

Food
Toasted hemp seeds, a hemp seed bar, a bucket of hemp milk and siemieniotka, the Silesian hemp-seed soup eaten on Christmas Eve. Hemp milk clears effects the way cow's milk does and works anywhere milk does, the Infuser and vanilla's cake included. You can skip the cow entirely.
Status effects (optional)
Some things made from the plant carry status effects. Each one is a trade-off, a buff paired with a debuff, and the stronger versions raise both. Helpful effects stop at level II, which is where a beacon stops. Overdo it and you can lose every buff and get Nausea instead.
A single switch in the server config turns the whole system off and leaves a farming and building mod.
Everything else
- 24 advancements covering the whole progression. Some are worth finding on your own.
- Six paintings.
- Two music discs, Moonlight and Robadob, written for the mod by Nefuß. Creepers drop them, and they turn up in dungeon and mansion chests.
- Recipe pages in JEI and REI (and EMI on 1.21.1). These include the cauldron steps, which aren't recipes and don't show up anywhere else.
- Twelve languages: five English variants, three French, three German and Russian, with regional vocabulary rather than copy-paste.
For modpacks and servers
- Fabric API is required on both client and server. On 1.21.11 you need Fabric Loader 0.18.2 and Fabric API 0.139.4 or newer.
- Settings live in
config/hempdustry.json, written with comments on first run. They cover crop and machine speed, the Infuser's timings, the effects switch and the loot additions, and/hempdustry reloadre-reads the file. - Pipes can pull from both machines, and the Infuser's spout pours into anything that exposes storage, from a hopper to an AE2 interface. A comparator behind the tub reads 0 once a batch is collected, so a dispenser can refill it on its own.
- Varieties are a datapack registry and both machines run on datapack recipes, so KubeJS and CraftTweaker can rebalance them. Hemp joins the usual
c:convention tags, so other mods' recipes can use it. - From 2.0.2 on, a world opens on every later version with nothing to do. No ids get renamed or removed.
- A client-side update notice tells you once when a newer version is out.
client.updateCheck: falseturns it off, which is what a pack with pinned versions usually wants. - Putting it in a modpack is fine, monetised or not.
Coming from the old version?
Same mod, same author, rewritten from scratch. The old one was a Forge mod made with MCreator. This one is hand-written Java on Fabric, built for 1.21.11, with a 1.21.1 build kept alongside. Worlds from the old Forge versions do not carry over.
If you played it, the plant, the outfit and the building blocks will look familiar. Almost everything else is new or works differently. A few old features, like the farmer trades, are not in this version.
