Food Talks
Food Talks is a mod that reimagines food as a meaningful part of Minecraft survival. Rather than simply filling your hunger bar, food in this mod becomes a powerful tool to help you thrive in the world.
Note: Food Talks is still under active development. If you encounter any bugs, please report them on the issue tracker.
Currently, the mod offers two main food/drink types: Sandwiches and Cocktails.
Sandwich
A Sandwich is made from two slices of bread and a selection of fillings. Each ingredient—including the bread itself—adds a unique positive effect to the final item. The effect's level and duration depend on the total number of ingredients used. For example, steak grants Strength II, so each steak layer contributes 10 seconds of Strength II to the sandwich's total effect pool. This total duration is then divided across the number of bites the sandwich provides.
Bites determine how many times you can eat from the sandwich. Although the sandwich is no longer stackable, each bite restores a proportional amount of hunger and saturation. Better yet, eating a bite takes only 0.5 seconds of chewing—no more standing still for nearly 2 seconds to gulp down a whole steak or apple. You can take a quick bite, resume your work, or take another if you wish.
However, more ingredients aren't always better. Ingredients belong to types (e.g., beef and cooked mutton are both MEAT). If the number of ingredients from a single type exceeds half of the total layers, a food tag punishment kicks in—its severity scales with the ingredient count. For instance, golden apples are classified as DRUGS. A 10-layer golden apple sandwich will poison you the moment you take a bite.
Crafting a Sandwich
- Craft a Wooden Plate (it can be converted to and from a Bowl).
- Place the Wooden Plate on the ground.
- Put one slice of bread on the plate, then add your desired fillings on top.
- Cover the fillings with the another bread.
- Click the Wooden Plate—and your sandwich will magically appear!
The Wooden Plate also doubles as a food display stand. Food placed on it appears thicker and larger, making it a nice decorative piece.
Cocktail
A Cocktail is a blend of multiple potions in a single bottle. It's more than just a potion mixer—you can combine regular potions and ominous bottles into one drink, then consume it sip by sip. Like sandwiches, the total effect duration is split across each sip.
Condiments allow you to tweak the cocktail's properties. Following vanilla logic:
- Redstone dust extends duration.
- Glowstone dust increases effect level.
- Honey bottle acts as a detoxifier, removing all negative effects (e.g., Slowness VI from Turtle Master).
To add condiments, the cocktail requires water level capacity:
- Each potion, ominous bottle, or water bottle products 1 water level.
- Each redstone or glowstone consumes 1 water level.
- Each honey bottle consumes 2 water levels.
Crafting a Cocktail
- Place a vanilla Glass Bottle on the ground.
- Add your potions, water bottles and/or condiments into it.
- Break the bottle or sneak click it—it will drop a finished Cocktail.
