Description
Introduction
The food enchanting system turns food into more than just consumables that restore hunger. Every piece of bread, meat, fruit, vegetable, and dessert can be imbued with independent food enchantments: they enhance nutrition, change eating behavior, grant status effects, and even bring special abilities and curses powerful enough to change the rhythm of combat and exploration.
Core Mechanics
The Food Enchanting Table scans food bookshelves within two layers and two rings around it.
Any food bookshelf provides 1 point of base enchanting level. Base level determines enchantment quality.
Each category of bookshelf also provides category power to its corresponding enchantment page. Fruit-class bookshelves unlock Fruit enchantments, Meat-class bookshelves unlock Meat enchantments, Seafood-class bookshelves unlock Seafood enchantments. The more bookshelves of a category are placed, the more complete the enchantment slots on that page become. Placing 5 effective bookshelves of a single category unlocks all five tiers of options for that category.
Base Enchantments
The Base Enchantment page is powered by all effective food bookshelves collectively, without requiring the player to place only one type of bookshelf. It represents the most universal and fundamental ways to enhance food, such as:
Increasing hunger or saturation;
Changing eating speed, with trade-offs between speed and nutritional value;
Granting the ability to eat food at any time or to consume it multiple times;
Gaining shield effects through eating.
Base enchantments allow any food to have room for growth.
Category Enchantments
Category enchantments do not turn all foods into the same thing; instead, they extend the natural characteristics of each ingredient.
Fruits lean toward healing, resistance, night vision, and agility. Vegetables provide sustainability, reach, and defense. Meats are better suited for strength, life steal, tough bones, and high-risk curses. Seafood revolves around underwater breathing, swimming, underwater mining, and underwater combat.
Design Philosophy
In the end, your Food Enchanting Table is no longer just an isolated block. It becomes a study that requires planning: want universal upgrades? Expand your total bookshelf count. Want a specific type of effect? Build bookshelves of the corresponding ingredient. Want to push for the limit? Let your Gilded Bookshelves and high-tier enchantments work together.
