Folios License
Version 1.0, October 2026
Copyright (c) 2026 ixDarkLorD.
Folios is free to use, and you may reuse its code, change it and publish forks of it, as long as you credit its author (section 4). What this license does not allow, it reserves to the author. If something you want to do is not covered here, ask: https://github.com/ixDarkLorD
1. Definitions
"Folios" means the Folios mod: its source code, compiled files (jars), assets (textures, models, sounds, fonts, translations, shaders) and documentation, in every version, on every loader and platform.
"The Template" means the example resource pack in the folder templates/folios-book-template of the Folios source, and any copy of it published by the author. It is not covered by this license (see section 6).
"Addon" means a separate mod, plugin, datapack or program that works with Folios, uses its public API (net.ixdarklord.folios.api) or its file formats, and does not contain Folios's code or assets.
"Content" means guide books, resource packs, data packs, translations and other files that Folios reads, made by you.
"Derived work" means anything that contains Folios's code or assets, in whole or in part, changed or not: a fork, a modified version, a port to another game version or loader, or another project that reuses parts of Folios.
"Official source" means the Folios project pages on CurseForge and Modrinth, its website (https://ixdarklord.github.io/Folios/), and any other place the author names.
2. What you may do without asking
a. Use. Download Folios from an official source and use it, in single player, on servers and anywhere else you play Minecraft.
b. Modpacks. Include Folios in modpacks, public or private, free or monetized through a platform's own reward program (such as CurseForge's or Modrinth's). Where the platform can fetch Folios from an official source (a Modrinth .mrpack, a CurseForge manifest), use that rather than a copy of the jar. Where it cannot, you may include the unmodified jar, as long as the pack credits Folios and links to an official source.
c. Addons. Make, publish and sell Addons, under any license you choose. You may compile against the Folios jar and depend on it, and tell your users to install it from an official source.
d. Content. Make, publish and sell Content: books, resource packs, data packs and translations for Folios. A resource pack may contain changed versions of Folios's own textures, models, sounds and translations, for the purpose of restyling or translating Folios.
e. Media. Show Folios in videos, streams, screenshots, articles and reviews, monetized or not.
f. Code and assets. Copy, study, change and reuse Folios's code and assets, in whole or in part, in your own projects, open or closed source, free or paid, under any license you choose, as long as you give credit as section 4 asks.
g. Forks. Publish modified versions and forks of Folios, including ports to other game versions and loaders, as long as you give credit as section 4 asks and the fork has a name and a mod id of its own (section 3c).
h. Contributing. Changes you send the author may be used by the author in Folios, under this license, without further permission.
3. What you may not do without the author's written permission
a. Re-upload Folios unchanged, mirror it, or bundle it with anything other than a modpack (section 2b). Point people to an official source instead.
b. Sell Folios itself unchanged, or put it behind a paywall, a download gate or an ad-link service.
c. Publish a Derived work under the name "Folios", with Folios's mod id ("folios") or logo, or in any way that presents it as Folios itself or as made or endorsed by the author.
d. Present Folios, or a part of it, as your own work, or remove or change its copyright and license notices.
4. Credit
Every Derived work must credit Folios and its author. This is a condition of sections 2f and 2g: without the credit, those permissions do not apply.
a. Where people see it. Name Folios and its author, ixDarkLorD, with a link to an official source, on the Derived work's project page (its description on CurseForge, Modrinth or wherever it is published) and in its README. For example: "Based on Folios by ixDarkLorD (https://ixdarklord.github.io/Folios/)".
b. In the mod. If the Derived work is a mod, name Folios and ixDarkLorD in its metadata's credits (the "contributors" or "authors" of fabric.mod.json, the "credits" of mods.toml or neoforge.mods.toml).
c. In the source. Keep this license's copyright line with the code you took, and include a copy of this license, or a link to it, in the Derived work's source.
d. Say what changed. A fork or modified version must say that it is changed from Folios.
Addons, Content, modpacks and media do not need this credit (beyond what section 2b asks of modpacks), though it is always welcome.
5. Conditions
a. These permissions last as long as you keep to this license. If you break it, they end for you, and are restored only if the author agrees.
b. You must also follow the Minecraft End User License Agreement and Usage Guidelines.
c. Folios depends on CoolCatLib, a separate mod with its own license. This license covers Folios only.
6. The Template
The Template is dedicated to the public domain under Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal (https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/). You may copy, change and publish it, in whole or in part, for any purpose, without asking and without credit.
7. No warranty
FOLIOS IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHOR BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH FOLIOS OR THE USE OF OR OTHER DEALINGS IN FOLIOS.
8. Changes to this license
The author may publish new versions of this license. Each version of Folios is covered by the license it was released with; you may also follow any later version.
