A nature magic datapack
(now packaged as a mod for Fabric!)
Florcraft is a datapack (packaged as a mod) that adds a Thaumcraft-inspired magic system centered around the essences of the natural world. Explore the world, collecting the essences of nature for your own employment - then utilize them to wield powerful staves and tools!
Gather essence, a mystical substance that can be used in many ways, from the spirits of nature. Explore the world to discover the three varieties of essence: Arid, Aqueous, and Verdant!
Once you’ve collected some essence, explore the Nature’s Oculus and its deep knowledge tree to discover and craft over 60 new items, including spellcasting rods and scepters, elementally charged tools and armor with unique essence-fueled powers, and useful constructs like the Mystical Furnace and the Mineroot tree!
Ready to take it a step further? To craft and use the most powerful items, you will need vast amounts of essence. Use Pylons to automate essence collection, then transport that essence to wherever it needs to go using magical… flowers?!
Fight the three Essence Guardians, powerful minibosses you may encounter after dabbling in the power of essence, for additional resources!
Are you ready to begin? Hit any of the spirits that can occasionally be found flitting around to collect your first essence and start your journey!
This pack already has enough content to be worthwhile in a playthrough setting. However, it will receive additional content updates in the future, including more uses for essence and more challenging endgame content. What do you mean, datapack packaged as a mod? What's different?
Florcraft is developed using mcfunction and json instead of the modding tools you may be used to. This means the following things may be different from your typical mod:
- Laggier than a typical mod. This shouldn't be noticeable, except if on servers with a lot of players.
- I use vanilla sounds. This might change in the future.
- My entities and items can't be found in the creative inventory or commands, and are in fact based on vanilla items. If you want to give yourself items, use /loot.
- GUIs may seem a bit jankier. I can't actually make custom GUIs and have to use fonts and textured items to simulate this. They should work fine nonetheless.
- Damage might be janky if other mods are involved. I have to use a custom method for damage. This does allow me to do some intricate calculations for my own content, but my damage sources won't respect things like new protection enchants (unless I get bothered about them enough that I decide to implement that).
- There is one item made with the normal crafting table, and it will appear to result in a knowledge book until you take it, at which point it will turn into the correct item. All other items are made in my custom crafter. This is because we do not have access to proper NBT crafting.
- Should work on both Forge and Fabric, though I haven't figured Forge out yet.
Don't let those discourage you though; there's just as much depth of content as any other mod! Florcraft has a lot of content, enough to rival the big name mods out there. I have no doubts that you will have enough content to satisfy you (unless you're an expert modpack player or something). If you're really tired of these caveats, go play another mod.
