Something down there is learning how to be a fish.

fishing.jar is a horror fishing mod. Fish long enough, especially after dark, and the things on your hook start to come up wrong. Every wrong catch feeds your dread, and the higher it climbs, the closer the water comes.

The Gulper

A tall, thin thing from the deep, with arms that hang to its knees, a jaw full of teeth, a cluster of pale eyes and a glowing lure on its brow. Fully animated 3D model: it walks, swims, stares and bites.

Dread

Your dread goes from 0 to 100 and is kept when you die. Wrong catches raise it, so does lingering by dark water, and it fades slowly by day away from the sea.

• Stage 1: a small pale light out on the water at night. Something is under it.
• Stage 2: it surfaces to its shoulders and watches you. Look straight at it and it sinks. Whispers start behind you.
• Stage 3: it stands in the shallows. Sometimes it takes your line and pulls you in. The sea fog closes in.
• Stage 4: it hunts you at night.

A heartbeat quickens when it is near; the deep rumbles now and then.

Kill it and the sea goes quiet: your dread is wiped and you take its Lure Bulb (night vision, water breathing and dolphin's grace).

Wrong catches

• Staring Cod: too many eyes, all of them open.
• Toothed Salmon: the teeth are not a fish's.
• Pale Hand: it was holding the bait. The first one holds a soggy map...

The Fisherman's Rest

A small island out at sea: a fisherman's hut with his logbook on the lectern (8 pages of his story, and how to end it), a dock with lanterns and a bell, and his fishing boat moored alongside, with its wheelhouse and bunk. Find it with the soggy map or /locate structure deep_bite:fishermans_rest.
