FirstGulp of the UnEaten
One key eats one of every food you have never tried — wherever it happens to be.
FirstGulp of the UnEaten is a compatibility mod that links Sophisticated Backpacks, Spice of Life: Carrot Edition, and Beyond Dimensions together. Press one key, and it eats one of every food you have never tried, no matter which inventory, backpack, or network storage that food is sitting in.
Features
- One key eats every untried food. Default key: V (rebindable in Options → Controls → FirstGulp of the UnEaten).
- Only new foods. Only foods that Spice of Life: Carrot Edition has not recorded yet are eaten.
- Only one of each. The same food sitting in several slots or several containers is only eaten once.
- Nothing is eaten twice. Pressing the key again right after does nothing until you find new food.
- No animation, no wait. The key acts immediately, so you can eat straight out of a backpack or out of network storage.
- Works while full. Food is eaten even when your hunger bar is full, because the point is discovering new foods.
Where It Looks for Food
In this order, and the first container holding a given food is the one it is taken from:
- Your inventory — hotbar, main inventory, offhand.
- A backpack worn in the chest slot — this can be turned off separately.
- Every Sophisticated Backpack you carry — including backpacks nested via the inception upgrade.
- Backpacks worn in Curios slots — requires Curios; Sophisticated Backpacks' own Curios integration is used, plus a reflection-based fallback so no hard dependency is added.
- Your primary Beyond Dimensions network storage.
How "Eating" Works
The food is consumed the same way Beyond Dimensions' own feeder does it: Item#finishUsingItem wrapped in NeoForge's EventHooks#onItemUseFinish. That applies the normal food effects and fires LivingEntityUseItemEvent.Finish, which is the event Spice of Life listens to, so new foods are recorded and hearts are awarded exactly as if you had eaten it by hand.
Consequences worth knowing:
- There is no eating animation and no 1.6 second wait — the key acts immediately.
- Food is eaten even when your hunger bar is full.
- Handled leftovers (a bowl, a bottle, ...) follow vanilla rules: the last item is replaced by its container, or the container is put into your inventory.
Configuration
config/firstgulp-common.toml (also available in-game through the mods screen):
| Option | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
enableOneKeyEat |
true |
Master switch. |
maxFoodsPerPress |
64 |
Upper bound on how many different foods one press may eat. Guards against a pathologically large network storage. |
cooldownTicks |
10 |
Minimum ticks between two accepted presses. 0 disables it. |
eatFromPlayerInventory |
true |
Include the player's own inventory. |
eatFromArmorSlot |
true |
Include a backpack worn in the chest slot. |
eatFromBackpacks |
true |
Include carried Sophisticated Backpacks (and nested ones). |
eatFromCurios |
true |
Include backpacks worn in Curios slots (only does anything when Curios is installed). |
eatFromBeyondDimensions |
true |
Include the primary Beyond Dimensions network storage. |
dropLeftoversWhenFull |
true |
Drop leftovers at your feet when they do not fit; otherwise try your inventory / leave them in the network. |
Performance
- The client only sends a tiny "I pressed the key" packet; everything else happens on the server, because Beyond Dimensions network storage does not exist on the client.
- Each candidate costs two cheap lookups (food properties and one hash-set lookup in the Spice of Life food list), and only accepted candidates are actually extracted.
- The network storage is scanned once per press and nothing is cached between presses, so the container listing is never stale.
- A single press is capped by
maxFoodsPerPress, and a scan attempts at most 512 network extractions.
Requirements
All four are hard dependencies:
| Mod | Mod id | Built against |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft / NeoForge | - | 1.21.1 / 21.1.238 |
| Spice of Life: Carrot Edition | solcarrot |
1.21.1-1.16.6 |
| Sophisticated Core | sophisticatedcore |
1.21.1-1.4.80 |
| Sophisticated Backpacks | sophisticatedbackpacks |
1.21.1-3.25.73 |
| Beyond Dimensions | beyonddimensions |
0.7.24 |
Curios (curios) is optional and only adds the Curios-slot backpack search. It is declared as optional and is reached purely through reflection, so the mod works identically without it.
