Fauna
Fauna is a Minecraft mod that aims to add several new creatures and mobs to the game, each with a feature to make it stand out.
Entities that have been added recently to Minecraft feel out of place and useless, dropping no loot, no XP and having nothing making it worth interacting with the mob in the first place.
Fauna's objective is to add more creatures but without this flaw. Every newly added entity should have at least a feature that makes it interesting: whether that being dropping item recipients, food combinations, or being part of something bigger.
Another objective is to "fix" vanilla existing mobs that currently do not serve any purpose by extending the same treatment the mobs added by the mod have.
Ambitions
The mod has immense ambitions. Since the plan is to completely overhaul the creature scene, Fauna's goal is to add at least 3-5 mobs per-biome in the game. This includes passive animals, monsters, bosses and ambient creatures that fit that biome. Some may be realistic, some may be fictional.
This of course means a ridiculous amount of content and a potentially big impact on performance. We are doing our best to optimize the mod as much as possible.
Status
Please be aware! This is extremely early! There WILL be bugs, missing content, weird things, ugly models and textures that will be changed. Your feedback is welcome!
Release Plan
The mod has been in development on and off for about 2 years. Recently, the entire thing has been rewritten for pure optimization necessities and has been given a better structure. The idea is to publish the first Release of the mod somewhere in 2027.
Since the project revolutionizes biomes and game aspects, there's gonna be "Drops" whenever there is a considerable amount of content added, each themed around the aspect being revolutionized. These "Drops" are gonna be Beta versions of the mod with a unique title. For example, the first Drop will be centered around the ocean, existing mobs and new ones, and tons of new food items and systems. The name for this Drop is Fauna: Tides & Taste.
Each Alpha file is an extra-early version of the Beta drop - not containing the full content, but serving more as a testing version for those who want to stay up-to-date with development.
Mod Integration
Currently, there is compatibility with JEI, while Curios API and Geckolib are required.
There are plans in the future for possible integration with Farmer's Delight and more.
If you have suggestions about this, please see the section below.

Wiki
Here we get to how things work. This is essentially gonna be the Wiki for the mod where you can find out all about the mechanics.
Please keep in mind that until the first Release, the below content can be subject to change.
The following content is what is present as of the first Alpha for Fauna: Tides & Taste. What is in development / planned is not included in this list. Not all content is included, discover some yourself using the mod!
Entities
Badlands Goat
The Badlands Goat is a new type of Goat. It can be found in the biomes Badlands, Windswept Savanna, Wooded Badlands and Eroded Badlands.
Currently, this mob is for ambient and does not have any particular feats. However, it is subject of the changes made to the vanilla Goat as well. Scroll below to see these changes.
Crab
The Crab is a very important mob in the Tide & Taste update. The Crab spawns in the Beach, Desert and Stony Shore biomes in small groups and of course like to move sideways.
When killed, Crabs drop a very important item, the Claw. You can read more about the Claw below in the Items section, but to summarize, it is an equipable item and crafting component for most Sushi recipes added by the mod.
Deer
The Deer is a passive animal typical of Forest biomes. They are commonly found in Birch Forests, Dark Forests, Flower Forests, Forests, Old Growth Birch Forests, Old Growth Pine Taigas, Old Growth Spruce Taigas, Snowy Taigas and Taigas in groups of 2 up to 4.
Deers drop a new red meat type, the Deer Beef, with a maximum of 2 per-Deer. This meat can of course be cooked into Deer Steak, a great source of food!
Hog
Hogs are (in-game) a special variant of the Pig. In order to adapt to the environment around it, the animal developed horns and a sturdier physique. Hogs often rest in places like Old Growth Spruce Taigas, Old Growth Pine Taigas, Snowy Taigas and Taigas.
When killed, Hogs drop a new item, the Hog Beef. This is a strong meat that can't be cooked as it is already very satisfactory on its own, it can however be turned into Fur for useful and cool looking equipment.
This mob will be getting a remodel soon. I know it's hideous.
Nether Llama
Our magmatic friends have joined the game: it's the Nether Llamas.
These creatures spawn in some Nether biomes like Nether Wastes, Crimson Forests and Warped Forests.
The Nether Llama is able to walk on lava without issues, and can be ridden by the player to cross the gigantic fire oceans, despite being rather slow.
The Llama's diet mostly consists of Nether Warts and Magma Cream. Due to that, inside its stomach there is lots of fermentation processes that turn the mob into an ambulant potion brewing machine!
By Shift + Right Clicking the Llama, you can get a Fire Resistance potion, but will then have to wait for the entity to produce more before repeating the process.
The Nether Llama is also really gluttonous of Glowstone! By feeding it to the Llama before extracting the potion, you can extend its duration.
Shrimp
The Shrimp is so far the most important entity in the mod. It's found in oceans in big groups and although it likes to hang out in Coral Reefs, it's most commonly located in all types of Ocean.
The Shrimp, when killed, drops itself as a consumable item. It can be eaten, but does not provide much saturation alone. Instead, it's an extremely common ingredient in Sushi! They have little health and are easy to capture. With their cute appearance, they are perfect for an aquarium pet, quick snack or elaborate dish!
Items & Blocks
Claw
Dropped by the Crab or found in Shipwrecks. Used to create many Sushi recipes which you can see in the game via the Sushi Book or JEI. Can be equipped in Curios hand slot to gain an extra 0.25 block reach.

Efficiency Token
Curios equippable Charm that empowers other Charms giving them special abilities. Can be found in Dungeons and Strongholds.
Cr: This texture was created by Betaeta.

Experience Extractor
Curios equippable Charm that drops 1 XP Point when the player breaks a block.
If the Efficiency Token is equipped, the XP is directly transferred to the player instead.
It can be found in Strongholds and Mineshafts.

Pocket Chef
Curios equippable Charm that will autofeed the player some food and saturation every 60 seconds. The effects are stackable if you have multiple equipped. The effect also works if the item is simply in the inventory, it is not required to be in a Curios slot.
If the Efficiency Token is equipped in a Curios slot, the cooldown becomes 30 seconds instead.
It can be found in End Cities.
Cr: This texture was created by Betaeta.

Shock Therapy
Curios equippable Charm that is able to mitigate incoming melee damage from opponents by absorbing 23% of it and turning it back into healing. It will also deal back 20% to the attacker, but will enter a 5 seconds cooldown.
It can be found in Ruined Portals and Bastions.

Sushi
Sushi is a big aspect of the Tides & Taste update. There are many Sushi items and each has its own achievement and entry in the Sushi Book. Each has a unique recipe that can be followed in the Sushi Board.
Each Sushi gives a brief status effect depending on what type of Sushi it is, and certain types of Sushi have a chance of giving a negative combo of effects.
Sushi is an amazing source of food and saturation with many positive aspects and fun mechanics. Can you collect them all?
Sushi types are also found in Shipwrecks.
Sushi is always crafted with first Dried Kelp and Rice, then followed by two distinctive ingredients that determine the type.

Sushi Book
The Sushi Book is a collection book given to the player when they join the game for the first time. If lost, it can be recrafted.
Inside, the book has every Sushi type in the mod, but obscured. The player will not be able to see the look or names of the Sushi before crafting them at least once. Thankfully, each entry has a visible recipe in the tooltip underneath, showing the block needed to craft the Sushi & the ingredients!

Metal Detector
The Metal Detector is a new tool that allows you to scan valuables underground.
This is a work in progress. It will be reworked to be more exciting. The Metal Detector can be found in Mineshafts and can scan for valuables underground.
By default, it can reach a maximum depth of 40 blocks.
However, when Shift + Right Clicking a menu will open where you can add Modules to the Metal Detector. These Modules provide upgrades, making it a much better tool.
There are 3 types:
- Depth Module
- Resource Module
- Preservation Module
Each module has 4 tiers, the last one being Ultimate and having a golden glow.
The resources scannable by default and per-tier of the Resource Module are listed in tags: #fauna:block/scannable_tier_base, #fauna:block/scannable_tier_1(2,3), #fauna:block/scannable_tier_ultimate.
The Modules are upgradable and craftable via the Moduling Table, but it is not ready for the Alpha yet. Instead, you can use the testing command /module-set-tier (tier 1-4) when holding a Module item.
Hovering over the Metal Detector in the inventory will show all inserted Modules and their tier. The Modules persist when the item is dropped and are removable any time, but will disappear if the item breaks.
