Extreme Storm Chasers

Chase powerful 3D tornadoes and dynamic storms with Doppler radar, weather probes, forecasts, and realistic warning sirens.

Extreme Storm Chasers

Track the storm. Sound the siren. Chase the funnel.

The clouds are building. Your radar lights up. Somewhere beyond the rain, a funnel is taking shape.

Extreme Storm Chasers brings storm chasing to Minecraft Java Edition with moving weather systems, animated 3D tornadoes, Doppler radar, weather instruments, and warning sirens. Follow developing storms across the Overworld, set up a weather station, and watch ordinary rain turn into something much more dangerous.

A sky worth watching

Storm cells develop, move, mature, and weaken as you play. Broad animated clouds bring localized rain, thunderstorms, and the possibility of hail or tornadoes. Cold biomes receive visual snowfall instead of rain, and quiet periods give you time to prepare for the next chase.

Tornadoes with presence

Encounter cone, stovepipe, and wedge tornadoes, with animated 3D funnels, rotating wall clouds, ground dust, and debris effects. Natural tornadoes range from EF0 to EF5, with weaker storms appearing more often and the strongest events remaining rare.

Build your storm-chasing setup

  • Doppler radar: Follow storm activity with rain and hail echoes, tornado scans, and selectable radar products and ranges.
  • Weather forecast terminal: Check local conditions, nearby storm movement, and precipitation, hail, and tornado probabilities over the next 2, 5, and 10 minutes.
  • Weather probes: Monitor simulated conditions around your observation site.
  • Warning sirens: Get an audible warning of nearby tornadoes, using an actual outdoor tornado-siren recording.
  • TIV equipment: Add tornado-intercept equipment to your setup, with the current vehicles using minecart/rail movement and an anchoring interaction.

Your world, your weather

Adjust natural storm frequency, thunderstorm chances, hail, and tornado probabilities through the server configuration. Storms and active tornadoes persist with your world, so their simulation resumes when you return.

Want to set up a chase immediately? Operator commands let you create weather and spawn tornadoes for Creative builds, testing, or staged scenarios.

/esc weather thunder
/esc weather hail
/esc spawn 1 cone
/esc spawn 3 stovepipe
/esc spawn 5 wedge
/esc sirentest

Use /esc weather clear to clear both storm cells and tornadoes.

Installation

  1. Use Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.1 with Forge 47.3.0 and Java 17.
  2. Place the Extreme Storm Chasers JAR in your instance's mods folder.
  3. Remove older copies of the mod before adding an update.
  4. For a server, install the same mod version on both the server and connecting clients.

Weather2 and CoroUtil are not required. Equipment is available in the Extreme Storm Chasers Creative tab.

Development notes

Extreme Storm Chasers is actively being developed. Weather readings, radar products, and forecasts are gameplay approximations. Forecasts project currently tracked storms; new storms can still form outside that forecast. TIVs currently use rails rather than free-driving vehicle controls.

Compatibility with shader packs, Fabulous graphics, other weather mods, and large multiplayer servers has not been fully tested. Back up worlds before testing updates that affect terrain.

When reporting an issue, include your mod version, Forge version, other installed mods, what happened, and your latest log or crash report.
