Description

Remember everywhere you've explored.

alt text Expedition Ledger is a lightweight world-memory journal for Minecraft. It records biomes, structures, and dimensions as you encounter them, then helps you review what you found, what remains undiscovered, and where your discoveries began.

It is an exploration journal—not a minimap, compass, scanner, or quest system.

Features

  • Overview: exploration progress, category counts, latest discovery, and a missing-discoveries count.
  • Biomes and Structures: browse registered entries with All, Discovered, and Missing filters.
  • Dimensions: keep track of the dimensions you've entered.
  • Missing: see tracked registry entries you haven't discovered yet.
  • History: revisit your first discoveries in timeline order.
  • Discovery details: review status, in-game day, dimension, and first coordinates; coordinates can be hidden in Settings.
  • Next Expedition: receive a deterministic, offline suggestion based on your journal and the current registry catalog.
  • Journeys: follow optional goals based on real discovery counts.
  • Controls: press J to open the ledger; rebind it in Controls.

Registered modded biomes and structures can appear in the catalog. Names without a translation are shown as readable versions of their registry IDs.

Lightweight by design

Discovery checks run on the logical server at a configurable interval (20 ticks by default) and only after the player changes block position. The mod checks the player's current biome and structure references at that position; it does not perform a broad world scan or add a minimap. Network updates are sent only for discoveries, with catalog and journal data split into bounded pages.

Your journal

The journal is stored per player in the world save. First discoveries are retained with their in-game day, dimension, and location. The saved format is versioned and has backup/recovery handling.

Compatibility

  • Minecraft: 1.20.1
  • Mod loader: Forge 47.x
  • Language: English
  • This project targets Forge 1.20.1. Other Minecraft versions and loaders are not claimed.

Installation

  1. Install Minecraft Forge 1.20.1 (47.x).
  2. Put the Expedition Ledger jar in the instance's mods folder.
  3. In singleplayer, the integrated server records discoveries. For a multiplayer server, install the mod on the server for server-authoritative tracking. alt text

FAQ

Is Expedition Ledger a minimap or compass?
No. It remembers discoveries and exploration progress; it does not show a map, route, direction, or live scanner display.

Does Next Expedition use AI or an online service?
No. Suggestions are deterministic, rule-based, and computed from the journal and catalog available to the client.

Does it scan the world or load distant chunks?
No broad world scan is used. Discovery checks are limited to the player's current position at the configured interval.

Does it work without the mod on the server?
The ledger uses data synchronized from the logical server. If the server does not provide Expedition Ledger data, the client shows an unavailable message. Optional client/server installation combinations still need in-game verification for this release candidate.

Is the mod tested in-game?
The source passes a clean Gradle build and 10 logic tests. Client launch, dedicated-server operation, multiplayer combinations, world reload/restart, GUI scales, and live performance are NOT TESTED in this source package. Check the included testing notes before treating this draft as release-approved.
