Description

Eureka Ships 2 (VS2) — Unofficial · v3.2.0

Unofficial port — not affiliated with or endorsed by the Valkyrien Skies team. It may be less polished than official VS; use at your own risk, no official support. Original mod: https://valkyrienskies.org/

MC 1.20.1 · 1.21.1 · 1.21.11 — Fabric only Sodium 0.8.12 or Latest — 1.21.11 · Sodium 0.6.9 — 1.21.1 · Sodium 0.5.13 — 1.20.1 Requires the matching Valkyrien Skies 2 build on 1.21.1 & 1.21.11. On 1.20.1 it runs with either this port or the official VS2 release. Eureka does nothing on its own.

This is the complete feature set of the port — List contains features already on the latest official release of VS2, plus a few from my own port.

= New feature introduced in this port.
🛠 = Issue that was present in official but my approach on solving in these ports. Approach may change when official version releases!
= Already featured by official release!

★ The Eureka Assembler ★

  • Auto Floaters / Auto Balloons — tick a helm toggle (or use the command) and Eureka works out how many floaters/balloons the ship needs and installs them on assembly. No more hand-counting.
  • How it fills — it converts the lowest whitelisted hull blocks (planks → floaters, wool → balloons) into lift blocks, keeping the ship's shape with the lift down low. Inventory-gated and transactional: if you're short it won't assemble and tells you exactly what you need.
  • Fully customizable whitelist — choose which blocks convert and in what priority order in the config (e.g. oak planks before acacia). Tip: a plank capped with 2 slabs is skipped on purpose, so you can protect trim / design blocks.
  • Manual +N% boxes — pad the auto-count by a percentage as a failsafe; Enter locks it in and it resets to 0% after assembly. Handy for nudging a stubborn ship until it flies right.
  • Ship's Weight readout — the helm shows the assembled ship's total mass so you can size your lift at a glance.

Helm Menu, Controls & Cosmetics

  • ★ Redesigned helm menu — redrawn and reorganized around the new controls, assembler toggles, and readouts.
  • ★ Advanced vs Vanilla Controls (per ship) — toggle a single ship between the new Advanced scheme and the classic pre-overhaul behavior, so you can run both side by side.
  • ★ Cruise overhaul — three independent latched cruise sets (Horizontal / Vertical / Turn): latch, nudge with held input, cancel by holding the opposite. Includes lock-in turn cruise (hands-off constant-radius orbit) and captured-speed hold; set from the menu with manual value entry; persists across a world reload. The old auto-off behavior is gone.
  • ★ Engine-independent turning — a responsive base turn for taps and short holds, with a separate acceleration that sharpens the turn only after a brief hold (Advanced mode).
  • ★ Water altitude-hold ("Water Lock") — with the keel in water the ship holds its depth and sails the surface instead of ballooning out; works on any water body at any depth. Toggle from the helm.
  • ★ Engine Power % — the helm shows engine power as a live percentage (~100% on a full tank, drifting down as fuel burns).
  • ★ Ship dimensions stats  — Displays the ships Height / Width / Length.
  • ★ Ship HUD — optional on-screen Speed / Altitude / Heading, toggled from the helm.
  • ★ Rename from the helm — name a ship from the panel (spaces become "-" in commands; relog for the name to appear in /vs autocomplete).
  • ★ Blue center helm wheel — the wheel's center is recolored Heart-of-the-Sea blue to match its recipe, and to visually set this port apart from official Eureka.
  • ★ Pale Oak Ship Helm (1.21.11 only) — a Pale Oak helm variant to round out the 1.21.11 wood set.
  • ★ Engine & anchor facing — engines and anchors keep their correct facing through assembly and disassembly. Blocks use to snap to the orientation where initially assembled.
  • ★ & ⚓ Helmsman leveled to the floor — your feet rest on the block in front of the helm, standard in Official. But if standing on a slab or lowered deck it will keep you flush to the floor, no hovering.

Recipes & Balance

  • ★ Ship Helm — 1 Lodestone (bottom-center), wooden-slab corners, and a Heart of the Sea in the center. Survival-friendlier, and the blue wheel matches it.
  • ★ Recipe defaults — Floater now yields 16, Balloon 10, Ballast 8; colored-balloon dye recipes fixed.
  • ★ Retuned defaults — engine power/heat/boost rebalanced; max ship size raised to 50,000 blocks.
  • Survival mining changed — engine, balloon, floater, and anchor break with the right tool tier and drop properly: balloons by pickaxe/axe/shears; floaters & helm by stone axe up; the rest by stone pickaxe up.

Commands

Eureka adds these to the /vs command tree:

  • /vs eureka-assembler <floater|balloon> <true|false> — toggle the auto-fill (same as the helm checkboxes).
  • /vs get-ship-weight <ship> <floater|balloon> — prints a ship's total mass, plus the floaters (afloat vs. ride high and dry) or balloons it needs to ascend.

All other /vs commands come from Valkyrien Skies 2 — see its page for the full list.

Config & Requirements

  • ⚓ JSON config (config/vs_eureka.json) auto-generates with every tunable (engine power, speeds, mass-per-balloon, ballast, turn handling, assembler whitelists, water-lock, balloon-lift multiplier, max ship blocks, and more); a malformed file falls back to defaults without overwriting yours.
  • Fabric only. Requires the matching VS2 build (1.21.1 & 1.21.11); on 1.20.1 it runs with this port or official VS2.

Known Issues

  • On-ship water overflow and any multiplayer drift are handled on the VS2 side — see its Known Issues.
  • ModMenu integration is compile-only on 1.21.11 (its current build crashes at launch), so Eureka's config is edited via the JSON file rather than an in-game screen there.
