Equivalent Legacy

Equivalent Legacy brings the classic Equivalent Exchange-style gameplay to modern Minecraft (26.2 / NeoForge): assign an EMC (Energy-Matter-Currency) value to items, transmute them into each other, and progress through the Philosopher's Stone toolchain.

What's new

v1.6.9 - Survival balance system, ported from the 1.21.1 line

Feature release for Minecraft 26.2. This is a large behaviour change on purpose: 26.2 used to run exactly like vanilla ProjectE and now ships with the same survival balance as 1.21.1. Server owners who want the old behaviour back only need to set [balance] enabled = false.

Added

  • A [balance] section in server.toml with 44 options in 19 sub-sections — repair, auto survival, gem armour, fire immunity, walk on fluids, SWRG, armour, tools, combat, EMC, collectors, entropy sinks, stellar condenser, matter furnaces, Mercurial Eye, catalysts, lens, Philosopher's Stone, Watch of Flowing Time, plus a dimension blacklist and a global effect EMC multiplier. Every option falls back to the classic ProjectE value when balance.enabled = false, so disabling the section reproduces the previous 26.2 behaviour exactly. The Vellumli guide book is not part of this release.
  • The balance now ships enabled, so 26.2 stops being trivially generous from the first minute and loses the dynamics that broke the game in the player's favour.
  • EMC costs where there were none. The Repair Talisman costs 4 EMC per durability point instead of repairing everything for free; the Body, Soul and Life stones cost 256 / 256 / 512 EMC and restore half as much, and only work from a curio slot; the SWRG drains 1 EMC per tick (was 0.32) with a repel radius of 3 (was 5); the Nova Catalyst costs 32 EMC per block (was 8).
  • Sandboxes on the destructive tools. Vein mining is capped at 64 blocks (was 250), AOE radius is halved, the Mercurial Eye is capped at 32 blocks per operation instead of being unlimited, and the explosive lens radius is capped at 8 (was up to 16).
  • A slower EMC economy. Collectors, entropy sinks and the stellar condenser generate at a quarter of the previous rate, condensers cost double, the entropy sink efficiency floor is 0.05, the stellar condenser soft cap is 512 EMC per minute, and collectors only run on sunlight — the Nether light bonus is gone.
  • Combat and armour no longer bypass each other. Player attacks no longer pierce armour, attack AOE became a toggle, and the full PE armour set reduces damage by 0.7× with optional durability loss. Gem boots grant +50% speed (was +100%).
  • Gameplay toggles that used to be always-on: gem armour, fire immunity, walk on fluids, the Philosopher's Stone world transmuter and mob randomizer, the SWRG, and the Collector/entropy-sink/stellar-condenser EMC generation can each be turned off individually.
  • Balanced defaults for the options that already existed: Katar death aura 1000 → 12, covalence loss 1.0 → 0.5, time pedestal bonus 15 → 4 and mob slowness 0.10 → 0.5, player repair/heal/feed cooldowns 20 → 200 ticks, projectile cooldown 0 → 20, pedestal cooldowns doubled, and Klein Stars must now be full to be used in recipes. The Watch of Flowing Time keeps its existing disabled-by-default setting.
  • Gems and coins were rebalanced too: the Dark Matter furnace doubles ore 25% of the time and the Red Matter furnace never does (was 50% / 100%).

Fixed

  • Gem boots no longer negate all fall damage, and gliding is no longer free of consequences. With balance.gemArmor.noFall at its new default of false, gliding down accumulates fall damage — clamped to three blocks of drop, measured from the player's last reported movement — instead of the full height. This is the correctness half of that option and it was missing here; the dive and night vision fixes from the 1.21.1 line come with it.
  • The Watch of Stone Ring granted flight but its tooltip never said so. Flight is listed independently from the shield now, so you can see which abilities the mode you are holding actually gives you.

Notes

Read this before updating if you run a public server. This release tightens survival on purpose, so existing players will feel it: repairing is no longer free, the survival stones cost far more EMC and only work from a curio slot, vein mining and AOE hit less, EMC generators run at a quarter of the rate, collectors stop working underground and in the Nether, and the Red Matter furnace no longer doubles ore. Nothing is lost from your world and no item is removed — but a server that was built around free repairs or unlimited vein mining needs [balance] enabled = false, or per-option overrides, in config/equivalent_legacy-server.toml.
The 1.21.1 line has carried this system since 1.1.0; this release brings 26.2 to parity. No recipes, advancements, worldgen, loot tables, tags or EMC values changed — that data was already identical between the two branches, so this is config and code only.
