Description
EnchantPlus
I never liked that enchanting comes down to rerolling and hoping. EnchantPlus replaces the random offers with a system where you learn enchantments and then choose them yourself.
The idea
Enchanted books no longer come from the table. You find them in structure chests. Right-click one to read it and you know that enchantment for good, including all the lower levels. The book is used up and gives you some experience: 1 level for a new book, half a level for one you already know. The knowledge belongs to your character, so you keep it after you die.
At the enchanting table you get a list of everything you know that fits the item. Left click enchants, right click changes the level, and the mouse wheel scrolls. The "Learned" button next to the table shows everything you have learned so far, and which items it fits.
Every enchantment costs levels and lapis, split into three price tiers. By default that is 1, 5 and 10 levels and 3, 5 and 10 lapis, and you can set every one of those numbers yourself. Bookshelves count again: a level-30 enchantment needs 15 of them around the table, cheaper ones need fewer.
Where the books are
The random enchanted books of vanilla chests are gone. Instead, the structures below have a fixed chance to hold a book, and the deeper and more dangerous the place, the better it is.
- Easy places (dungeons, desert pyramids, jungle temples, mineshafts, shipwrecks, buried treasure, pillager outposts, large ocean ruins): lower levels of the basics
- Medium places (nether fortresses, strongholds, woodland mansions, trial chamber vaults): up to level, 3 and some special ones like Fortune and Silk Touch
- Hard places (bastions, end cities, ancient cities, ominous trial vaults): high levels plus things like Mending, Soul Speed and Frost Walker
[Chests in all other vanilla places no longer contain enchanted books.]
Other changes
- The anvil can no longer apply books or merge enchantments, otherwise it would skip the whole system. Repairing and renaming still work.
- At the grindstone you can remove one single enchantment of your choice for lapis (2 by default). The normal grindstone still works as before.
- You can write something you have learned onto a plain book at the table. On a server that lets you pass knowledge on to friends.
- Hovering over an entry shows what the enchantment does and what it costs.
- Reading a book plays a small sound and particle effect.
Villagers, fishing and piglin bartering are left alone by default. Each of them has its own switch if you want enchanted books to come from structures only. Villagers that already have their trades keep them.
Optional rules
These are off by default. Turn on whatever fits your world:
- Items stay in table: the item and the lapis stay in the enchanting table when you close it, and drop when the table is broken.
- Max enchantments: limits how many different enchantments an item can get at the table. Existing ones can still be upgraded.
- Relaxed bookshelves: torches, carpets, grass and the like no longer block a bookshelf, and chiseled bookshelves count by their books (3 books = 1 bookshelf).
- Upgrade: difference: upgrading an enchantment the item already has only costs the price difference.
Settings
With Mod Menu installed you get a settings screen. You can also edit config/enchantplus.json yourself. Everything can be changed:
- Level limits, level cost and lapis cost for each of the three price tiers, typed in as numbers
- Lapis cost at the grindstone
- Chance of books in chests (0% to 200%)
- Experience from new and already known books
- Bookshelf requirement
- Anvil lock
- Writing books at the table
- Removing books from villagers, fishing and piglin bartering, each on its own
- Learning effect
- Descriptions
- The four optional rules above
Commands for operators:
/enchantplus/enchantplus learn <enchantment> <level>/enchantplus reset
Compatibility
- Minecraft 26.3, Fabric Loader 0.19.2 or newer
- Needs Fabric API. Mod Menu is optional.
- Install it on the client and on the server.
- Enchantments added by other mods work at the table once you have learned them from a book.
[Only vanilla enchantments are put into the loot, though.]
Updating from 1.0.0: existing config files keep their old prices, the new defaults only apply to a fresh config.
Available in English and German. If you want to add a translation, the language file is small.
EnchantPlus is free and only available here and on GitHub.
Tested in a modpack with 100+ mods on Minecraft 26.3 – no issues found. See the gallery for the full list.
