Enchantment Overdrive
Take your favorite gear beyond its vanilla limits
Ready to push your equipment a little further? Enchantment Overdrive doubles the maximum level of every multi-level vanilla enchantment in Minecraft Java 26.3. Build stronger books with the anvil, then put them to work on gear that can normally use those enchantments.
No new items, blocks, or workstations are needed. The mod builds on Minecraft's existing enchantments and anvil rules.
How it works
- Combine matching enchanted books in an anvil. Put two books with the same enchantment at the same level into the anvil to create one book at the next level. For example, Sharpness V + Sharpness V becomes Sharpness VI.
- Repeat until you reach the new cap. The result cannot go above that enchantment's expanded maximum.
- Apply the book to compatible gear. Use an anvil as usual. Vanilla item compatibility and enchantment-conflict rules still apply.
The same vanilla anvil behavior applies when combining enchanted items. The required XP depends on the enchantments and the combination, as it does in Minecraft.
What changes
- The maximum level is doubled for all 34 vanilla enchantments that already have multiple levels.
- Higher levels use each enchantment's existing vanilla effect. If an effect scales with its level, its vanilla formula continues to use the higher level; the result depends on the enchantment and its built-in mechanics.
- Anvil costs are adjusted for ten high-cost enchantments so their expanded levels can be reached in Survival within the vanilla anvil limit.
- Enchanting table offers, including level 30 offers, remain vanilla. This release does not add a rare chance to roll over-level enchantments at the enchanting table; make higher-level books through anvil combinations.
Expanded maximum levels
| Vanilla maximum | New maximum | Enchantments |
|---|---|---|
| II | IV | Fire Aspect, Frost Walker, Knockback, Punch |
| III | VI | Depth Strider, Fortune, Looting, Loyalty, Luck of the Sea, Lunge, Lure, Quick Charge, Respiration, Riptide, Soul Speed, Sweeping Edge, Swift Sneak, Thorns, Unbreaking, Wind Burst |
| IV | VIII | Blast Protection, Breach, Feather Falling, Fire Protection, Piercing, Projectile Protection, Protection |
| V | X | Bane of Arthropods, Density, Efficiency, Impaling, Power, Sharpness, Smite |
These single-level enchantments are unchanged: Aqua Affinity, Binding Curse, Channeling, Flame, Infinity, Mending, Multishot, Silk Touch, and Vanishing Curse.
Anvil XP costs
To keep the new caps practical under Minecraft's vanilla anvil limit, the anvil cost values are reduced for Bane of Arthropods, Blast Protection, Breach, Density, Impaling, Sharpness, Smite, Soul Speed, Swift Sneak, and Thorns. This makes combinations involving those enchantments less expensive than vanilla. All other enchantment costs use their vanilla values.
Installation and compatibility
- Requires Minecraft Java Edition 26.3 and Java 25.
- Separate builds are available for Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge. Install the JAR that matches your mod loader.
- In single-player, add the matching JAR to your instance's
modsfolder. - In multiplayer, install the matching build on the server and on every client joining that server.
- Datapacks or other mods that replace the same vanilla enchantment definitions can change the resulting maximum levels, depending on pack priority.
Have fun building your next legendary book - and remember, two equal levels make one level stronger!
