Emberline brings dynamic wildfires to Minecraft. A lightning strike or a spark from a lava pool can grow into a raging blaze, sweeping through grasslands, torching forests, and threatening everything you’ve built. Wind, terrain, fuel, and moisture shape each fire. Along with your chances of stopping it.
Fight back with firefighting tools, water cannons, support vehicles, and aerial water drops. Build containment lines, protect your base, and watch for wind-carried embers starting new fires beyond your defenses.
Will you stop the Emberline? Or lose everything to the flames.
Getting started Wildfire simulation operates in the Overworld and starts disabled in new worlds. Run /emberline enable to activate it. For survival, we recommend /emberline danger moderate OR /emberline danger dynamic, and /emberline work_budget 50.
Smoke and graphics Choose between billowing particle smoke and volumetric smoke, with adjustable quality and haze. Graphics settings use /emberline_client, while simulation settings use /emberline. Volumetric smoke requires compatibility mode to be OFF. Run /emberline_client compatibility off, followed by /emberline_client volumetrics on. Compatibility mode selects particle smoke and overrides volumetrics. Iris automatically enables compatibility mode, so check this setting if volumetrics aren’t appearing. Shader-pack compatibility varies.
Client Commands /emberline_client volumetrics on: Enables volumetrics when compatibility mode is off. /emberline_client volumetrics off: Switches to particle smoke. /emberline_client volumetrics low: Selects lower-cost volumetrics. /emberline_client volumetrics balanced: Selects balanced quality. /emberline_client volumetrics high: Increases volumetric quality. /emberline_client volumetrics ultra: Selects the most demanding quality preset. /emberline_client compatibility on: Quickly stops volumetrics from rendering and goes back to particles. (on by default) /emberline_client compatibility off: Allows the native volumetric renderer to operate. /emberline_client haze standard: Uses the broadest haze setting. /emberline_client haze lower: Reduces haze range. /emberline_client haze minimal: Keeps haze more restrained. /emberline_client haze off: Disables haze. /emberline_client status: Displays client smoke diagnostics.
Containment and firefighting Dirt path blocks can be used as containment lines, interrupting connected ground fuel. Wider cleared areas give you more room to defend the line. However, containment isn’t guaranteed. Wind-carried embers can start spot fires across a break, and overhead vegetation can provide another route for fire to advance.
- Water suppresses flames and holdovers, protecting treated fuel from reignition for 30 seconds.
- Holdovers can rekindle, so keep an eye on areas that appear extinguished.
- Fire rakes clear fuel breaks, while hoses and fire beaters help defend them.
- Ordinary rain lowers dynamic fire danger. Thunderstorms preserve it, leaving lightning capable of starting dangerous fires.
Simulation commands These commands require operator permissions. Commands: /emberline help: Lists available commands. /emberline enable: Enables wildfire simulation. /emberline disable: Stops the simulation without restoring burned terrain. /emberline status: Shows danger, wind, moisture, work budget, and simulation backlog. /emberline ignite: Applies ignition heat to fuel you’re aiming at within 24 blocks. /emberline extinguish: Removes simulated fires and holdovers within 16 blocks. /emberline inspect: Shows details about the nearest loaded fire cell. /emberline danger low: Selects Low danger. /emberline danger moderate: Selects Moderate danger. /emberline danger high: Selects High danger. /emberline danger very_high: Selects Very High danger. /emberline danger extreme: Selects Extreme danger. /emberline danger dynamic: Enables weather-driven danger changes. /emberline speed: Sets simulation speed. Values from 1–10 are supported. /emberline work_budget: The default is 2048, but it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to set it to 50. /emberline visual wildfire: Selects the wildfire visual preset. /emberline smoke on: Enables smoke and haze. /emberline smoke off: Disables smoke and haze.
Restoring fire damage Run /emberline restore_now to begin restoring recorded fire damage, and /emberline restore_status to check progress. Restoration runs gradually and repairs recorded scars that haven’t subsequently been changed. Unloaded areas dont restore, load those chunks and run the command again. Restoration only covers damage recorded by Emberline. Keep world backups.
Tools and crafting All tools and vehicles have crafting recipes, discoverable through Minecraft’s recipe book.
- Fire hose: Hold right-click to spray falling water. Refill from source water or a firefighting vehicle’s tank.
- Fire beater: Smother nearby flames and holdovers.
- Fire axe: Fight nearby fire while retaining axe functionality.
- Fire rake: Clear narrow fuel breaks.
Vehicles
Fire truck Bring a mobile water cannon to the fire front, with approximately 20 seconds of water. Hold G to spray and aim with your mouse.
Bush support vehicle Carry a 120-second water reserve to refill hoses and nearby parked fire trucks. Its supply pump can support trucks while unattended. Both ground vehicles use W/S to drive, A/D to steer, and B to brake. Press V to park and enable the pump. New ground vehicles start empty; water buckets provide five seconds of flow each.
Firefighting plane Deliver sweeping aerial drops with approximately 20 seconds of water. Hold G to release water and let go to stop, choosing exactly how long each drop lasts. Lower the scoop and skim source water to refill—water pickup scales with flying speed. Plane controls:
- W/S: Throttle
- A/D: Bank
- Jump/Sprint: Pitch
- Z/C: Rudder
- R: Engine
- H: Landing gear
- V: Water scoop
- B: Brakes
- Hold G: Water drop Vehicle controls can be rebound in Minecraft’s settings.
