Elsewhere is a configurable dream-world framework for Forge 1.20.1. NeoForge & Fabric 1.21.1 WIP
When a player enters a bed, they can choose to dream instead of sleeping normally. Dreaming moves them into a separate world, and waking returns them to where they were before.
The mod currently includes three preset dream worlds based on iconic pieces of Minecraft history.
Each dream uses a configurable fog border. Crossing the edge wraps the player to the opposite side of the world, allowing small maps to feel contained without using a visible wall.
Dreams can also contain doors that lead to other dreams. Door destinations can be configured or randomized, allowing multiple worlds to form a small interconnected network.
Multiplayer
Dreams are shared between players.
Players can enter the same dream from different locations in the overworld, interact with each other there, and return to their original locations when they wake up.
This makes dreams useful for things like:
- Social hub worlds
- Creative building worlds
- Survival challenge maps
- Adventure maps
- Minigames
- Old server worlds
- Custom modpack progression
Persistence and Inventories
Dream worlds can be configured to behave differently from the overworld.
For example, a server could use a persistent creative dream while keeping the main world in survival mode. Players could enter the dream, use a separate creative inventory and Ender Chest, build there, then wake up and return to their normal survival inventory.
Dreams can also be set up as persistent survival worlds, allowing players to return later and continue where they left off.
Configuration
Dreams can be configured individually, including:
- World spawn
- Gamemode
- Inventory behavior
- Ender Chest behavior
- Persistence
- Fog border size
- Border wrapping
- Door locations
- Door destinations
Custom Minecraft worlds can be added and used as dreams.
Elsewhere is intended to be used as a framework for servers and modpacks, not just as a set of built-in worlds.
World Submissions
I am looking for interesting Minecraft worlds to eventually include as additional dreams.
Old survival worlds, abandoned server maps, unusual builds, childhood worlds, old parkour, or anything with an interesting history are welcome.
If you have a world you would be interested in allowing me to redistribute with Elsewhere, with credit, feel free to send it to:
