Description
EliteMobs
EliteMobs is a NeoForge mod for Minecraft 1.21.1 that adds dangerous, scaled-up versions of vanilla hostile mobs to your world. Instead of facing the same predictable Zombies and Skeletons all game, players will occasionally run into named elite variants that hit harder, survive longer, and at the higher tiers show up fully armored and enchanted, with their own boss health bar.
How spawning works
Elites spawn automatically only at night, in the Overworld. The mod checks every 5 seconds while it's nighttime and rolls a small chance to spawn one near a random online player. The odds are tuned so that, on average, about 4 elites appear per in-game night.
When an elite spawns:
- It appears in a safe, solid location within a 10-block radius of the chosen player (never inside walls or floating in air)
- A tier and a base mob type are rolled randomly
- A tier-appropriate roar, growl, or curse sound plays so you know something dangerous just showed up
- The player gets a colored chat message announcing what appeared
- The mob is given a unique, randomly generated name
You can also force-spawn one yourself anytime with the /elite command (requires permission level 2 — operator/admin).
The base mob is randomly chosen from: Zombie, Skeleton, Spider, Creeper, Husk, Drowned, and Stray.
The four difficulty tiers:
Every elite belongs to one of four tiers, each rarer and stronger than the last:

Naming system
Every elite gets a unique procedurally generated name in the format "[Adjective] [Mob Type] of the [Place]" — for example "Heavy Zombie of the Cave", "Withered Skeleton of the Nightmares", or "Bloodthirsty Witch of the Swamp". With 30 adjectives and 24 locations, there are over 700 possible name combinations per mob type, so no two elites feel quite the same.
Boss health bars
Champion and Berserker tier elites display a Wither/Ender Dragon–style boss bar at the top of the screen for any player within 48 blocks. The bar shows the elite's name in its tier color and updates live as you damage it, disappearing automatically once the mob dies.
Visual identification
Every elite — regardless of tier — has a permanent Glowing effect, so you can spot them through walls and terrain before getting close, plus a bold, color-coded name tag always visible above their head.
Persistence
Elite mobs never naturally despawn once spawned, so a fight you walked away from will still be waiting for you later.
