This is the client for the EduMania plugin. It supports automatic offline authentication and custom server defined texture packs.
Installation
Copy the files and folder from EduMania.zip into the root of minecraft.jar, deleting the META-INF directory from minecraft.jar.
Effects/features
Once you've installed this mod, Minecraft will continue to function as normal, however:
- If you join an EduMania server which has offline mode authentication enabled, your client will read from, or create, if it doesn't exist, a key file which will be used to authenticate with any EduMania server which requests the key.
- If an EduMania server you connect to has automatic texturepack download/install enabled, then the texturepack will be downloaded from the specified URL in the background (may take some time for large texturepacks) and given a name specified by the server, overwriting any other files with the same name. If the texturepack zip file at the specified address is invalid or corrupt, Minecraft will crash.
- There's an entry in the minecraft options file, 'resourcepath' which defines where the skins and capes for the players should be loaded from, care should be taken changing this to ensure it remains valid.
Bugs/'features'
- If the texturepack specified by the server is corrupt or invalid then minecraft will crash and refuse to load without crashing. This can be rectified by either deleting the offending texturepack file, or changing the texturepack to be used in the minecraft option file to a valid one.
- This mod most likely doesn't work with most other mods that change texturepacks or modify their functionality (MCpatcher has been tested to not work with this).
Educational use
The intention of this mod is for use in education as a free alternative to the more official 'MinecraftEdu' client/server system, However, if you use it for this, you are legally responsible for ensuring that you have all copies licenced. The MinecraftEdu site has a facility for buying discounted minecraft licences for educational use. If you intend to use EduMania, then you only need the minecraft licences, not the MinecraftEdu mod.
