What's new
1.3.0: The Pilgrim's Road
New: the Eclipse Gate Handbook
- Every player gets the Eclipse Gate Handbook the first time they join (craft another from a book and an Amethyst Shard). It's a guide to the whole mod: eleven chapters (Getting Started, the Hollow, Materials and Gear, Building, Food and Brewing, Creatures, People, Places, the Pilgrim's Road, Guardians, Tips and Commands) with 65 entries, item icons and a search box.
- Its first page, Next Steps, is a checklist from opening your first portal to ending the long night. It follows your advancements, ticks off what you've done and tells you how to do the next thing.
- The words live in a data file (
assets/eclipsegate/handbook/en_us.json), so resource packs can edit or translate it.
New: the Pilgrim's Road
- When the moon stopped, not all of the Lunar Order went through the ring. The eldest took the Pilgrim's Road out of Castle Nocturne toward the Sanctum of the Lunar Order, about 12,000 blocks across the Hollow, and sealed it behind five Sigils hidden along the way. 1.3.0 opens the whole road, all five chapters, from the first Waystation to the end of the story.
- The road runs in a straight line from the castle, in a direction set by the world's seed, so it's different in every world.
- Order Waystations mark the way: rings of standing stones around a Waystation Lamp whose beam of moonlight can be seen from far away. The first three stand about 450, 900 and 1,350 blocks from the castle. Visiting one gives you a page of Pilgrim Ondrel's journal.
- Pilgrim's Compass (a compass, a Lunarite and a Star Fragment): points to the next Waystation you haven't visited, then to the Pilgrim's Hall, then to the Wayfinders' Silverfen camp.
- Waymark Stones now stand among the Lunar Ruins. Touch one and its carving lights up toward the nearest Waystation, with a trail of light and the distance.
- Astronomers sell a Map to the First Waystation and a Map to the Pilgrim's Hall (Lunar Folk who already had their trades keep them; new Astronomers have the maps).
- Archivist Lyra's new book, The Pilgrim's Road, is in every Lunar Observatory and in the Pilgrim's Hall.
New: the Silverfen
- A misty silver marsh across the road, about 1,300 to 2,150 blocks from the castle: pools of dark water, Silverfen Reeds, Peat (and Peat Bricks with stairs, slab and wall), sparse Moonwood and drifting mist.
- Fen Lantern: a Moon Lantern and two Silverfen Reeds, with a pale green-gold flame. Stands, hangs or goes on a wall.
- New creatures:
- Silverheron: a tall silver wading bird. Tempt and breed it with Raw Starfin. Drops feathers.
- Reed Shoes (Silverfen Reeds and leather): put them on a tamed Moonstag and it walks across water. Sneak and use shears to take them off.
- Fenwraith: a drowned light that draws you toward it, out over the water, before it strikes. Its touch slows you.
- Moonlilies: glowing lily pads floating on the Silverfen's pools.
- Fenwillow: drooping silver willows hung with vines grow in the marsh. It's a full wood set: logs, planks, stairs, slabs, fences, doors and trapdoors, signs and hanging signs, boats and chest boats, plus its own chair, table, shelf, barrel, lectern, bunk bed and wardrobe.
- Bog Iron Ore in the peat: mine it for raw iron.
- Mist banks roll across the Silverfen. The fog thickens as you walk in and thins again as you leave.
- The marsh now sounds like one: still air and lapping water, frogs, a distant heron, reeds rustling. Fenwraiths have their own whispers, shrieks and a beckoning call when they pull you in.
- More creatures:
- Bogturtle: a big marsh turtle with a mossy shell. Tame it like a horse (Moonlilies make it trust you faster) and saddle it. It paddles quickly across water but plods on land. Breed it with Moonlilies.
- Mirelurk: lies buried in the mud with only the top of its head showing, then bursts out when you come close. Its blows slow you. Drops peat, bones and sometimes raw iron.
- Glowflies: small golden lights drifting over the marsh. Use a glass bottle on one for a Glowfly Jar, a soft, warm light.
- Fen Wisps: Fenwraiths sometimes leave one behind. Put it in a glass bottle for a Wisp Jar, a small, bright light.
- Fen Chowder (a bowl, Raw Starfin, Moonroot and Silverfen Reeds): 8 hunger, with two minutes of Water Breathing and Night Vision.
- Peat burns in a furnace (6 items), and Silverfen Reeds burn a little.
- Existing worlds get the Silverfen too, wherever chunks haven't been generated yet (it's far from anywhere you've likely been).
New: fishing in the Hollow
- Fishing in the Moonlit Hollow has its own catches: mostly Starfin, sometimes the rare Moonkoi (cook it for two minutes of Luck), marsh junk, and now and then treasure: Star Fragments, Lunarite, Fen Wisps, lore books and more.
New: along the road
- Wandering Pilgrims walk the Pilgrim's Road toward the next Waystation. Meet one and trade Lunarite for road supplies: compasses, journals, chowder, Reed Shoes, Moonlilies, Fenwillow saplings, Fen Lanterns and a map to the Pilgrim's Hall. They move on after a couple of days.
- Hidden caches: one floor tile in every Waystation is a Loose Waystone. Use it to find what an earlier pilgrim hid underneath.
- Pilgrim's Journal (a book, a Lunarite and a feather): it keeps itself. Open it to see which Waystations you've visited and how far it is to the next, your Sigils, the constellations you've traced, the Wayfinders' tasks, today's bounty and the moon.
- Maps of the Hollow you carry now mark the Waystations you've visited, and the Pilgrim's Hall once you've reached the third.
New: hamlet bounties
- Every Lunar Hamlet now has a Bounty Board in its square. Use it to see your bounty for the day: bring the Folk something they need, or deal with something that troubles them. Finish it and use any board again to be paid in Lunarite. There's a new bounty every day. Bounty Boards can also be crafted (Fenwillow planks, paper and sticks).
New: moon-steeped potions
- Use a potion on a water cauldron under the open night sky. At full moon its effects last twice as long. During the eclipse they're a level stronger but last half as long. Each potion can be steeped once, and each dip uses a level of the cauldron's water.
New: the Pilgrim's Hall and the first Sigil
- The Pilgrim's Hall, about 1,650 blocks along the road: a great Order hall half sunk in the Silverfen, flooded, its roof fallen in.
- Its guardian is the Fenbound Pilgrim, Brother Halvar, who stayed behind with the Sigil. 180 health and a boss bar; he rallies the dead like a Captain, and when badly hurt calls Fenwraiths out of the water.
- He drops the Pilgrim's Staff: a Lunarite-strong weapon whose blows slow the struck, and while you hold it in water you breathe and swim freely.
- Once he has fallen, the Pilgrim's Altar gives each player the Sigil of the Wanderer, the first of five, along with the last page of Ondrel's journal.
New: the Shattered Reaches (the second Sigil)
- About 2,700 to 3,800 blocks along the road, where stars fell like hail: Moon Dust over Starscar Stone (with polished, brick and cracked variants, stairs, slab and wall), craters with a Meteorite at their heart (break it for Star Fragments and iron) and Starglass Clusters on their rims. Stars still fall here, five times as often as anywhere else.
- Cragstriders, long-legged grazers that leap between the crater rims (breed them with Moonroot), and Starmites, glittering mites whose bite makes you glow.
- The Starfall Observatory: a star-scarred fortress around a tall tower with a glass dome. Astronomer Vael guards it: he fires starbolts, calls showers of stars down on you, blinks away when you get close, and calls Starmites when hurt. He drops the Starcaller (use it to call a falling star down where you're looking). The altar in the dome gives the Sigil of the Stars.
New: the Deep Road (the third Sigil)
- About 4,300 to 5,700 blocks along the road, the Order's tunnel road runs under the hills through the Deep Caverns: violet Umbral Stone (with polished, brick and chiseled variants, stairs, slab and wall), glowing Deepglow Crystals and the Order's Road Tiles.
- The Waystations here have a stairway down to a stretch of the old road.
- Umbral Crawlers, whose bite blinds, and Deep Delvers, the diggers of the road, still digging.
- The Deep Road Vault: a lamp-topped shaft leads down to a great hall on the road where the Delver Colossus keeps the Sigil of the Deep. It slams the ground to throw everyone into the air, and once cracked wakes the Crawlers in the walls. It drops the Delver's Pick, which digs half again as fast as Lunarite.
New: the Pale Frontier (the fourth Sigil)
- About 7,100 to 8,900 blocks along the road: a frozen lunar desert of Pale Sand and Pale Sandstone (cut, smooth, stairs, slab and wall), frost spires of Rimestone (bricks, stairs, slab and wall) and ice, snow, and blue Frostblooms.
- Rime Foxes, and the Order's last army: Frostbound Knights and Frostbound Archers, whose blows and arrows freeze.
- The Eclipse Citadel: walls and towers of rimestone, and a gate that is a wall of shadow, open only during the eclipse (new moon). Inside, the army stands in its ranks, and in the keep Marshal Corvane holds the Sigil of the Eclipse. He rallies his soldiers, sounds the horn for a fresh company at three quarters, half and a quarter health, and freezes everyone close. He drops Corvane's Warblade, whose blows freeze.
New: the Sanctum of the Lunar Order (the fifth Sigil and the end of the road)
- The Sanctum Vale, about 11,000 to 12,700 blocks along the road: silver grass, glowing Moonpetals and white Selenite (polished, bricks, chiseled, pillar, stairs, slab and wall).
- The Sanctum stands at the end of the road, about 12,000 blocks from Castle Nocturne, guarded by selenite Sanctum Sentinels. Pilgrim Ondrel, who wrote the journal pages along the road, waits at its gate. Bring him the four Sigils and he gives you the fifth, the Sigil of Dawn.
- With all five Sigils, the Sanctum Seal opens. Inside waits High Selenarch Maelis, who stopped the moon: three phases, from moon orbs and echoes of the Order's knights, to an eclipse of darkness and falling stars, to a sweeping moonbeam. She drops the Crown of Selenar (see in the dark and slowly heal while you wear it).
- When she falls, the moon turns again. A beam of moonlight rises from the Sanctum, the Hollow's sky and fog warm toward dawn for everyone, the Sentinels stand down, and the Order's restless dead walk the Hollow only half as often.
New: the Wayfinders move camp
- Spooks, Val, Xari and Hulky have made a new camp at the far edge of the Silverfen, on a boardwalk over the marsh, with two new tasks each and new rewards.
- They camp again at every stretch after that: among the craters of the Shattered Reaches, above the Deep Road, in the snow of the Pale Frontier and in the Sanctum Vale. Two new tasks each at every camp, with better rewards the further you go.
The road, all the way
- Waystation travel. Use a Waystation Lamp to travel to any other Waystation you've visited, for one Star Fragment (free in Creative). Pick from a list grouped by region.
- Sigil powers. Each Sigil helps whoever carries it: the Wanderer lets you breathe and swim freely under water, the Stars let you see in the dark, the Deep makes you dig faster below the surface, the Eclipse stops you freezing and shields you during the eclipse, Dawn heals you when badly hurt, and all five together bring luck.
- Shooting stars streak across the night sky and fade: often in the Moonlit Hollow, in showers at full moon and over the Shattered Reaches, and now and then on a clear night in the Overworld.
/eclipsegate road(operators): jump to any Waystation, stronghold or camp, the Sanctum or the castle (waystation <1-19>,stronghold <1-5>,camp <1-5>,sanctum,castle), see where the road runs (info), mark every Waystation visited or take all five Sigils (grant waystations|sigils), or forget your road (reset).- A cutscene after every guardian. When the Fenbound Pilgrim, Astronomer Vael, the Delver Colossus, Marshal Corvane or the High Selenarch falls, everyone in the fight watches the camera sweep around the room and glide in to the altar as it wakes (for the High Selenarch, to where the moonlight rises). Letterbox bars, no HUD, and you're safe while it plays. Sneak to skip.
- Nineteen Waystations now light the road from Castle Nocturne to the Sanctum, each region's in its own style. Ondrel leaves a journal page at the first Waystation of each stretch and at each Sigil's altar.
- The Pilgrim's Compass follows the whole road in order: Waystations, each stronghold, each Wayfinder camp, and at last the Sanctum.
- The Pilgrim's Journal has a page for each stretch you've reached (Waystations, stronghold, Sigil, camp), lists all five Sigils, and counts the Wayfinders' tasks across every camp.
- Maps of the Hollow mark every stronghold once you've reached the last Waystation before it.
Also new
- Thirty-eight new advancements: visiting your first Waystation and every Waystation of each stretch (and all nineteen), reaching each region, defeating each guardian, claiming each of the five Sigils, finishing the Wayfinders' tasks at each camp, riding a Moonstag in Reed Shoes across open water, catching a Fen Wisp and a Glowfly in jars, riding a Bogturtle, finishing bounties, moon-steeping potions, holding all five Sigils, opening the Sanctum, defeating the High Selenarch and being there when the moon turns.
- Config: a new
pilgrim_roadsection.distance_scalemakes the whole journey shorter or longer (0.5 = half the distance), andsilverfen_widthmakes every region of the road narrower or wider. Set them before exploring a new world: they only move structures that haven't generated yet. - Four new pages in the Wayfinder's Guide, and JEI pages for the new blocks, items and creatures.
- Spawn eggs for the Silverheron, Fenwraith, Fenbound Pilgrim, Bogturtle, Mirelurk, Glowfly, Wandering Pilgrim, Starmite, Cragstrider, Astronomer Vael, Umbral Crawler, Deep Delver, Delver Colossus, Frostbound Knight, Frostbound Archer, Rime Fox, Marshal Corvane, Sanctum Sentinel, Pilgrim Ondrel and the High Selenarch.
- The Hollow's wild structures (ruins, crypts, shrines, outposts, grottoes, mines and fallen stars) also turn up in the new regions, and Lunar Hamlets in the Sanctum Vale.
Changed
- A Moonstag wearing Reed Shoes now shows them on its hooves.
- New, more detailed textures for the Moonstag (dappled coat, star blaze, dark hooves, glowing motes in its mane) and the Starlight Golem (faceted crystal plates and a star at its core).
- The Waystation Lamp has its own item icon.
- The creative inventory now has eight Eclipse Gate tabs instead of one: Building, Nature, Hollow Colors, Furniture & Lights, Tools & Travel, Food, Creatures, and Relics & Materials.
- The Lunar Laboratory's failing lights now flicker: mostly lit, they cut out now and then with a faint buzz. The Flickering Lamp can also be crafted (a redstone lamp and four iron nuggets).
- The Moon Shrine's ring control panel now stands on its own low pedestal in the open, between two of the ruined pillars, instead of on the side of a pillar.
Fixed
- The beds in the Lunar Laboratory were laid the wrong way round, so their two halves didn't match. They're normal beds now.
- Wayfinder Camps (and the other structures of the Hollow) could generate inside the streets of Castle Nocturne. They now always keep well clear of the castle.
- These only apply to newly generated chunks.
