What's new

1.2.0

New: 61 more blocks

Building

  • Lunarite Brick stairs, slab and wall; Moonstone Tile stairs and slab (also in the stonecutter).
  • Cracked Lunar Stone Bricks (smelt Lunar Stone Bricks) and Chiseled Lunar Stone Bricks with a carved crescent (2 Lunar Stone Brick Slabs, or the stonecutter).
  • Mossy Moonstone Bricks with stairs, slab and wall (Moonstone Bricks + Glowmoss or a Moonvine).
  • Moonstone Bars (6 Polished Moonstone → 16), Moonstone Window (clear glass in a Moonstone frame) and Moonstone Window Pane.

Lights and glass

  • Moon Lantern (stands on the floor, hangs from a ceiling, or goes on a wall on its own bracket; light 15), Moon Sconce (a small silver flame on a wall) and Moonstone Lamp Post.
  • Glimmer Glass and Glimmer Glass Pane: teal glass that glows softly (4 glass + a Starlight Shard → 4).
  • Starlight geodes deep underground in the Hollow (below Y 24): Starlight Crystal shells around Budding Starlight Crystal, which slowly grows glowing buds into Starlight Clusters, like amethyst. Mine a full cluster for Starlight Shards (4 with a pickaxe, more with Fortune); 4 shards make a Block of Starlight Crystal.

Plants

  • Moonvines hang glowing from cave ceilings and grow longer over time (or with bone meal). Climbable; shears or Silk Touch always get them.
  • Moonflowers (Hollow Woods and Glimmering Grove) and Duskblooms (Duskwood Forest) grow on the surface. They can be potted, composted, made into Moonlight Silver and Dusk Violet dye, or put in suspicious stew (Night Vision and Slow Falling).
  • Glowmoss Block and Glowmoss Carpet cover patches of cave floor, with Starfern and Glowcaps growing on them.
  • Starfern: a small starlit fern found everywhere in the Hollow (shears to collect).
  • Huge Glowcaps grow wild in the Glowcap Glade: Glowcap Blocks (light 12, drop Glowcaps) on Glowcap Stems.
  • Lunar Pebbles scattered on the ground (or 1 Lunar Stone → 4 in the stonecutter).

Furniture and useful blocks

  • Moonwood Chair: right-click with an empty hand to sit, sneak to get up. Moonwood Table (tables placed side by side join into one big table, with legs only at its outer corners) and Moonwood Shelf (wall-mounted).
  • Astral Crafter: a crafting table with a star-chart top (a crafting table, a Lunarite and 2 Moonwood Planks).
  • Lunar Brazier: a Lunarite bowl of silver fire, light 15. Put it out with a shovel, light it with a Moon Shard or flint and steel.
  • Moonwood Barrel and Moonwood Lectern work just like a barrel and a lectern.
  • Lunar Order Tapestry and Eclipse Tapestry: two-block-tall wall hangings. Click the side of a block to hang one (it needs wall behind both halves).
  • Furniture in every Hollow wood: the chair, table, shelf, barrel and lectern also come in Glimmerwood and Duskwood, made the same way from that wood's planks, slabs and fences.
  • Glimmer Lantern (teal) and Dusk Lantern (violet): a Moon Lantern plus Glimmer Teal or Dusk Violet dye. Stand, hang or wall-mount them like the Moon Lantern.
  • Tapestries in all six Hollow colors (Moonlight Silver, Starlight Blue, Glimmer Teal, Dusk Violet, Eclipse Black, Lunar Gold) with a crescent emblem: 3 sticks over 6 wool of that color.
  • The new plants and pebbles, Starlight geodes, Moonvines and Glowmoss only appear in newly generated chunks.

New: the Hollow's dyes

  • Six new dyes: Moonlight Silver (Moonflower), Starlight Blue (Starlight Shard), Glimmer Teal (Glowmoss Block), Dusk Violet (Duskbloom), Eclipse Black (Dusk Violet + black dye) and Lunar Gold (Star Fragment → 3).
  • Each color has its own wool, carpet, stained glass, stained glass pane, terracotta, concrete powder and concrete (42 blocks), crafted the vanilla way. Concrete powder hardens in water.
  • They dye leather armor (and leather horse armor) in their own colors, and mix with vanilla dyes and with each other like vanilla dyes do.
  • They can't dye sheep, beds, banners or vanilla blocks (Minecraft's dye colors are fixed).
  • The Hollow's plants also make cheap vanilla dye: Moonvine → light blue, Glowcap → cyan, Starfern → green, Lunar Pebbles → white.

New: six more creatures

  • Moonfox (Hollow Woods, Duskwood Forest): a silver fox with a starlit tail tip. Hunts Moonhares and Glimmerfowl, sleeps curled up; breed with sweet berries, glow berries or Moonroot.
  • Moonfleece (Glowcap Glade, Hollow Woods, Glimmering Grove): a sheep whose fleece grows in a Hollow color (usually Moonlight Silver, sometimes Starlight Blue, Glimmer Teal, Dusk Violet, Eclipse Black, rarely Lunar Gold). Shear it for that wool, dye it with a Hollow dye to change it; the fleece grows back by itself. Lambs take a parent's color.
  • Moonpaw (Hollow Woods, Glimmering Grove): a midnight-blue cat with silver stripes and glowing gold eyes. Tame it with fish or Starfin; like any cat it keeps Nightwings away and Shardlings at a distance.
  • Hollow Stalker (every biome): a tall, star-speckled shadow with cold blue eyes. Teleports, carries off blocks, hates water, and attacks if you meet its gaze. 44 health. Drops ender pearls and sometimes a Star Fragment.
  • Glimmer Slime (Glowcap Glade, Glimmering Grove): a glowing see-through teal slime that splits when hit; the smallest sometimes drop a Starlight Shard.
  • Duskboar (Duskwood Forest, Hollow Woods): a bristle-backed violet boar with pale tusks that charges and tosses you like a hoglin, but never turns into a zoglin. Breed with Moonroot.
  • All six have spawn eggs and Field Guide entries.

New: five more structures

  • Lunar Outpost (surface): a walled watch post of the Order with a 20-block watchtower (a telescope and brazier on its roofed lookout, the watch officer's table, bunks), a barracks with bunks and tapestries, and a yard with a Moon Campfire, braziers and training posts. Moonbound Knights and Archers still keep watch there. Several chests and barrels.
  • Wayfinder Camp (surface): two striped tents in the Hollow's dye colors, a Moon Campfire with seats, a telescope and supplies. Its chest and barrels can hold the Wayfinders' journals.
  • Abandoned Lunar Mine (underground, Y -40 to 20): tunnels running out from a lantern-lit hub, with timber supports, broken rails, cave-ins, Moon Ore and Starlight crystals in the walls, and a Moonweaver nest at the end of one branch.
  • Crypt of the Order (underground, Y -10 to 30): a pillared hall of burial niches and an altar under Order tapestries, an archive with a lectern, and a reliquary guarded by a Moonbound Knight spawner. The best loot of the five.
  • Starlight Grotto (underground, Y -45 to 0): a hidden cave of Starlight crystal that grows clusters, with Glowmoss, Starfern, hanging Moonvines, a little pool and an offering stone with a chest.
  • Each has its own advancement, and all five can be found with /locate. Only in newly generated chunks.

Castle Nocturne is much bigger

  • The castle-town is now 193×193 blocks (it was 129×129), with taller 16-high walls, a twin-towered west gatehouse, new north and south gates, capped corner towers, over 100 cottages, Moonroot farms, a library annex and a walled graveyard with a mausoleum.
  • A true inner castle now stands on the east side behind its own walls, towers and portcullis: a courtyard with a well and moon garden, a roofed great hall with feasting tables and a throne, a chapel, the knights' barracks and stables, and a 27×27 keep over 50 blocks tall, with corner turrets, a roof lantern and a spiral stair through five floors (entrance hall, armory, library, lord's chambers and treasury).
  • The way down to the Depths of Nocturne is in the keep's entrance hall. The Stargate plaza is unchanged, still in the exact center.
  • No more castle in the sea: when a new world's Hollow is first loaded, the castle's spot is checked for water (seas, lakes and rivers) across its whole footprint, and if there's any, it moves to the nearest dry, fairly flat land (within about 770 blocks of the center). The Observatory book, the Astronomer's map and /locate all point to where it really is. Worlds whose Hollow already exists keep their castle where it is.
  • Only generates in new worlds, or where the castle hasn't generated yet.

Bigger Moon Shrines and an abandoned Lunar Laboratory

  • Moon Shrines are bigger (13×13, were 9×9): a round platform with a carved ring pattern, eight ruined pillars of different heights (the tall ones still lit), fallen stones and lamp posts at the entrance.
  • With JSG: Rings and Transporters, the transport rings are now sunk one block under the floor (in the shrine and in the lab), covered by a floor tile they rise up through, like the addon's own rings. The shrine's control panel stands on its own pedestal.
  • The Lunar Laboratory under each shrine is much bigger (31×31, was 19×19) and long abandoned: a ring chamber with four wings (research, smashed specimen tanks with a flooded corner, a generator room half buried by a cave-in, and quarters with an archive), failing lights, cracked and mossy walls, broken tiles, cobwebs, roots and dripstone, and three research chests.
  • Only in newly generated chunks.

New: the moon turns

  • The Hollow's moon now goes through eight phases, one each night: full, waning, the eclipse (new moon), then waxing back to full. Look through a Telescope with an empty hand (sneak) to see the phase and how many nights until the next full moon and eclipse.
  • Full moon: Moonshades and Hollow Stalkers come out in full numbers (on other nights about half as many). Waxing moon: Moonroot grows faster. Eclipse: Glimmer Slimes can spawn huge, and the Eclipse Temple's seals open.
  • Lunar Clock: shows the phase on its face and gives a redstone signal from 15 at full moon down to 0 at the eclipse. Right-click it for the next full moon and eclipse.

New: constellations and starlight

  • Constellation hunting: while you look through a Telescope, now and then one of the Hollow's 12 constellations comes clear (the Lantern Bearer, the Silver Stag, the Crown of Selenar, the Herald...). Trace all twelve to earn the Starweavers' Charm (Night Vision and Luck while you carry it at night or in the Hollow).
  • Starlight infusion: put one tool, weapon, bow, crossbow, trident or armor piece and 4 Starlight Shards into an Astral Crafter to make it Starlit. At night and in the Hollow, Starlit weapons deal +2 damage (the Moonblade +4), Starlit tools mine 30% faster, and each Starlit armor piece takes 6% off the damage you take.

New: a second boss, a guardian, a mount and the Wayfinders

  • Moonbound Captain: the Lunarite-armored leader of each Lunar Outpost (80 health, a blue boss bar). Every few seconds in a fight it rallies the knights and archers around it with Strength and Speed.
  • Starlight Golem: a crystal guardian with 120 health. One guards each Lunar Hamlet, and you can build your own like an iron golem: a carved pumpkin on a T of four Starlight Crystal Blocks.
  • Moonstag (Glimmering Grove, Hollow Woods): an antlered silver deer. Tame it by riding it like a horse, saddle it and ride; it jumps high. Feed it Lunar Apples to breed and Moonroot to heal.
  • Abyssal Starfin: a navy, gold-spined predator of the Hollow's deep water that fires a beam like a guardian (26 health).
  • The Wayfinders: Spooks, Val, Xari and Hulky now live at the Wayfinder Base Camp. Talk to each of them for two tasks (bring Star Fragments, Starlight Shards, Moonroot, bones and more) and rewards (a star chart, Moon Shards, stews, Lunar Apples, a Telescope, diamonds, Lunarite gear). They can't be hurt. Each wears a real player's skin, downloaded when the game runs, falling back to built-in skins offline.
  • Eclipse Herald: the second boss (420 health, 16 damage), the Warden's elder. Summon it at the Eclipse Temple's altar with an Eclipse Heart, only during the eclipse. Shades and stalkers come with it. Drops an Eclipse Heart again, plenty of Lunarite, Star Fragments and diamonds.
  • All six have spawn eggs.

New: three more structures

  • The Order Library (underground, Y 8 to 40): a drowned hall of bookshelves around a flooded aisle, with reading tables, lecterns and Chronicle Pages in its chests. Its vault is behind an iron door that only opens from a lever hidden somewhere among the shelves.
  • Wayfinder Base Camp (surface): four tents around a Moon Campfire, a long table, Spooks' map table, Val's kitchen, Xari's telescope and Lunar Clock, Hulky's anvil, and the four Wayfinders themselves.
  • The Eclipse Temple (surface, rare): a black temple whose doorway is sealed with Eclipse Seals, unbreakable stone you can only walk through during the eclipse. Inside: braziers, tapestries, chests and the Eclipse Altar.
  • Lunar Outposts now have a Moonbound Captain, and Lunar Hamlets a Starlight Golem. New lore books: Chronicle Pages and The Eclipse Rite. All only in newly generated chunks.

New: more blocks

  • Starlight Torch (a Starlight Shard on a stick → 4, light 15) and Starlight Rail (always powered, and faster than a powered rail).
  • Signs and hanging signs for Moonwood, Glimmerwood and Duskwood.
  • Boats and boats with chests for all three woods.
  • Bunk Beds (two beds stacked, two blocks long and two tall; sleep in either bunk) and Wardrobes (two blocks tall, hold as much as a barrel) in all three woods.

New: the Wayfinder's Guide, trades, JEI and advancements

  • The Wayfinder's Guide: a book of everything in the Hollow, given to you the first time you enter it (or craft one from a book and a Moonroot).
  • More Lunar Folk trades: the Hollow dyes, tapestries, colored lanterns, furniture, bunk beds, wardrobes, boats, signs, Starlight Rails and Torches, the Lunar Clock and the Guide.
  • JEI info pages for all the new things.
  • New advancements: trace a constellation, trace all twelve, finish every Wayfinder's tasks, shear a Moonfleece of every color, sit in a chair of every wood, find every new structure, defeat the Eclipse Herald, tame a Moonstag, build a Starlight Golem, make Starlit gear, and craft a Lunar Clock.

Changed

  • The Wayfinders' leader Kai is now called Spooks, in the lore books, the Guide and at the base camp.
  • The Eclipse Gate Usage Stats screen now pops up only once: its button says Don't show again, and however you leave it, it won't come back by itself. Change your choice any time from Eclipse Gate menu > Usage Stats (there the button is Done).
